yA i bet he does hate them(coldplay).......cause theyve sold more albums than radiohead and are more popular with the kinda music that radiohead started..........so that said ....coldplay can do radioheads music better than radiohead themselves........NOW THATS HILARIOUS!!!!!.......

Poor Chris, all his favourite people don't like him. There's that really awful cringe worthy of Chris with Thom in 2002 where Thom just could not look more bored.

Coldplay (and many other bands) "copied" Radiohead's sound from The Bends and OK Computer. He means good luck trying to figure Kid A out- sort of assuming no one would try.

HAHA! LOL!. Really funny because me and some others used to predict that LP4 would be coldplay's equivalent to Kid A. Maybe thom was thinking along these lines and is like. "This is coldplay being 'experimental'?" yeah right, have you heard amnesiac!!!!!

^Check the timestamp. This thread is from 2002. I think the quote is from about 2001. It's on youtube somewhere.
well what an idiot Thom Yorke is Um, no.
Have you heard Kid A? It's pretty out there- completely different from anything they had done before it. It was supposed to be career suicide at the time (even though it went to #1 in America).
Not many bands would even be willing to try what they did, let alone know how to do it.

It's not a recent interview at all its after Amesiac was released in North America, he said it on live tv and he didn't mention Chris Martin at all.
I doubt he was serious.
Especially when Thom Yorke once told Noel Galligar where to go for his slating comments 'hey I went to music school, and it taught me to respect other artists'

wow this is an old thread (2002) :D
anywhoo:
When asked in 2001 by MTV, "How do you guys feel about the fact that bands like Travis, Coldplay and Muse are making a career sounding exactly like your records did in 1997?", Yorke replied, "Good luck with Kid A"
Ah, sometimes artists can be really bitchy at each other but who cares? Its just one guys opinion, it shouldn't affect how we perceive our favourite band (CP, naturally) and, in the end, as long as great music is being made, we're the winners!

He's not slagging anybody of here. He's indicating that no one would want to copy Kid A because it could lead to a career suicide. And Thom's an idiot? Thom's jealous of Coldplays fame? Yeah, right.

In politics, this type of question is called "softball".
The follow-up question was probably, "Thom, can I please wipe your ass and kiss the ground you walk on?"

I don't see his comment as being offensive, he was just making a small joke. Who knows, Thom Yorke may even be a fan of Coldplay now, even if he wasn't then.
