Well its June, the middle of the year. So what has been your top 5 albums that have been released this year. Maybe say a few words why too. Mine:

1. Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
The whole album is simply amazing. I've listened to it over and over again. The songs are extremely catchy.
Highlights: Hands Open, It's Begining To Get To Me, and Chasing Cars

2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
I must say I am suprised that they put out a 28 song album and it didn't have a cd of sucky songs.
Highlights: Turn It Again, Wet Sand, and Snow ((Hey Oh))

3. Arctic Monkey;s - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Well what can be said, arguablly the most exciting new band to come out in recent years. The cd is full of exciting tracks. It will be interesting to see how far they will go.
Highlights: Mardy Bum, A Certain Romance, When the Sun Goes Down

4. Pilate - Caught By the Window
A Canadian band that I have seen a couple times and really like. Their second album was not as good as the first but a some excellent tracks on it none the less.
Highlights: Don't Stare, Knife-Grey Sea, and Overground

5. Wolfmother - Wolfmother
A new Aussi band and I must say I am very pleased with their sound. Definitely a retro sounding band along the line of Jet. The guys got great hair too.
Highlights: White Unicorn, Joker & Their, Dimension

i will partake in this game! :)

1. Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche
sure its "rejects" from Illinois but i dont care. (and technically its not out til july ... shhh) the quality of the songs on this album are 100x better than some of the stuff out there. besides i have to admit that i think everything that sufjan touches is gold. he can do no wrong.
Highlights: Springfield, or Bobby Got a Shadfly Caught in his Hair, Pittsfield, The Mistress Witch from McClure (or, The Mind That Knows Itself), Chicago (MPD version)

2. Matt Costa - Songs We Sing
The fact that I can listen to this album over and over and over again without me gettin sick of it means its quality. haha. I just really like his sound.
Highlights: Behind the Moon, Astair, Sweet Rose

3. Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
a more poppy version of snow patrol but awesome songs. its quite a change from their original sound but me likes it. i do enjoy the lyrics of the songs as well.
Highlights: Shut Your Eyes, Chasing Cars, Set The Fire To The Third Bar

4. Belle and Sebastian - Life Pursuit
one of their best albums in my opinion. also comes with really catchy songs. i like it so much i have the DVD version AND the CD version.. haha.
Highlights: Blues are Still Blue, Funny Little Frog, We are Sleepyheads, Meat and Potatoes

TIE: (yeah im cheating)
5. Band of Horses - Everything all the Time
i really really really wanna see this band live.. frick in fact im missing them RIGHT NOW. darn father's day & having to work the next day. *sigh*. yeah theyre awesome. go listen now!
Highlights: Monsters, Our Swords, The Funeral

5. Oh No! Oh My! - Oh No! Oh My!
i don't know if many people know about this band.. but theyre from austin originally. and i bought their CD and the dude in the band shipped it to me. in fact i actually wrote him an email and he wrote back. theyre super. here's their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ohnoohmyband
Highlights: Walk in The Park, I Have No Sister, Farewell To All My Friends

Eyes Open - Snow Patrol
I can't stop listening to the album. I totally love it! But it's not as good as Final Straw though. My pick: Chasing Cars, Open Your Eyes, You're All I Have.

This New Day - Embrace
Not as good as Out Of Nothing but quite great nonetheless. My pick: Nature's Law, Target, Exploding Machines.

Under The Iron Sea - Keane
A very different sound from Keane. Lets see how far this will go. My pick: Is It Any Wonder, Hamburg Song, Nothing In My Way.

Well since its been leaked I guess you can put that on your list if you want. If we count leaked albums I would probably slip Thom Yorke's album into that number 5 slot over Wolfmother.

there are some potentials as well. like Mogwai's, We Are Scientists' or Keane's album. i haven't listened to the first 2 for months already, Keane's album is a bit disappointment and i still need some listenings to it to decide where does it belong

Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová - The Swell Season
this is Glen's first solo album (he plays in The Frames)with our czech young singer Markéta, it's pretty cool. Glen's music can make you happy, sad....whatever you want, he's a magician in music :)
He and The Frames are still my nr.1...!!!

Snow Patrol- Eyes Open
I remember the day when Daryl (bart) told me about this british band and recommended me Final Straw. I was very surprised that it was so good. And now I could try their another album and they didn't disappointed me. It's the same quality as Final Straw, uh I dare to say that some songs are better! ;)

Josh Ritter - The Animal Years
American who lives in Ireland and has strange but nice voice. This album charmed me, dunno why, but songs like Girl In The War, Wolves, Monster Ballads, Good Man or Here At Right Time deserve people's ear

that's all

I'm waiting for a new The Frames' album......please, guys, be quicker:D

Snow Patrol - Eyes Open - when i first got into this band and bought Final Straw i thought nothing could top it, it was seriously that good. Then they brought out Eyes Open which, for me, just about clinches it. Absolute bliss from start to finish :nice:

We Are Scientists - With Love And Squalor - this has got to be one of THE most addictive albums i've ever heard, i just can't stop playing it! They have some amazing guitar riffs, a kick ass drummer and bassist, and lyrics that are really easy to relate to. And to boot, possibly the funniest band website i've ever come across, esp the Advice section! www.wearescientists.com

The Automatic - Not Accepted Anywhere - the first time i heard this band was on Radio 1 at work when one of the dj's (can't remember who) played their latest single, Monster. It's probably the catchiest indie pop song i've heard so far this year, with huge guitars, a chorus catchier than the flu and a genius a cappella section at the end. The video is pretty brilliant too :laugh4: And that's just the tip of the iceburg. Although i've only had their album since Saturday (it actually came out on Monday but i preordered my copy online and it arrived early :smug:), it is already a new favourite for me, every song is as good as the last. LOVE them! :D

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium - i know a lot of Chili's fan are said to be disappointed with this album and i can't comment on that since this is the only album of theirs i own, but personally i love it. Every song is full of funk, soul, rock and in some places rap, but even throughout 28 tracks it never drags :)

Dirty Pretty Things - Waterloo To Anywhere - i'm not gonna start banging on about how this album is far superior to anything Babyshambles/The Libertines ever produced blah blah blah, cos i personally have not heard enough of either bands' music to justify such a comment. Instead, i simply want to say that this is fucking brilliant album and i love it :P

Completely agree!! I think that Waterloo To Anywhere can definately hold it's own to the Libertines (and even Baby Shambles). It truly is brilliant.

And about WAS, you hit it right on the head :laugh4: They are really hysterical guys, especially in real life  That makes the music that more enjoyable, even though it's brilliant on it's own.

1 . snow patrol - eyes open
i had wanted to buy this album, but then i won it in the local radio, and i love it! i'm listening to the cd for 2 weeks now.

best to listen: hands open, shut your eyes, make this go on forever, set the fire to the third bar (martha's voice is amazing)

2. keane - under the iron sea
it's one of my favourite bands, and i really love the new album. altough it has a very different sound from hopes & fears. but i love it.

best to listen: nothing in my way, hamburg song, bad dream, the frog prince

3. arctic monkeys - whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not
an awesome cd. it's so energic and catchy. i don't know what else to say.

best to listen: dancing shoes, from the ritz to the rubble, when the sun goes down

hope you don't mind i have written just 3 cds, but right now i can't remember on other ones.

Here's what I'm looking at so far:

1. Liars - Drum's Not Dead - Liars continue to defy everybody's expections, this time keeping the ominous dread of They Were Wrong So We Drowned, and adding furious tribal rhythms to it.

2. Jim Noir - Tower of Love - Some of the finest pop music I've heard in a long time, although not actually released in the US yet. It is out in the UK, though.

3. The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea - The Fiery Furnaces are my favorite band right now. Insanely talented, generally insane otherwise, and adorable to boot.

4. Espers - Espers II - Not as good as their first album, but the psychedelic-folk drifts further from the folk and more toward the psychedelic. Is it 1967? It works for me.

5. Scott Walker - The Drift - Over the course of 40 years, Scott Walker has evolved from a melodramatic crooner into the world's first atonal pop artist. You will never hear another album that sounds remotely like The Drift.

Honorable Mentions:
- Paul Simon - Surprise
- Matmos - The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of the Beast
- Zero 7 - The Garden
- Bruce Springsteen - We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions
- Thom Yorke - The Eraser

there are so many great albums...this year though:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
Keane - Under The Iron Sea

i've bought a lot of other albums this year but they weren't released in 2006, BUT i definitely recommend Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites. best discovery i've come across so far.

I agree! I really like the album. Last Thursday I watched their new clip on MTV and it was amazing. Sounds a bit like the Beatles and Oasis. :nice:
