Therese, you're listening to Don't Panic? :P

Mark, what a pitty, they are making so many jokes about the Eurovision. Stefan just talks about the "rubber dinghy lips" of the Mazodonian woman... :D

:D Therese! Is it also one of your favourite Coldplay songs?

Kara, I just found a song in my playlist... "Lostprophets - Last Train Home", but I don't think it's the same band. They sound quite American. :)

"May I have your attention please" always reminds me of Eminem... :P

Yeah Therese, it was my ringtone for a long time (now it's Mando Diao ^^)... it's strange! Sometimes I'm hearing a song on the radio ten times and then I begin to hate it, but it never happened with a Coldplay song. You can listen to them whenever you want. :)

Its the ferry tickets Lars! I got the festival tickets a little while ago. :nice:

Ooooh yeah the Chris dream...not that great, just random as my dreams always are!!!
.......He was working or helping out or something in Primark (what the frickin hell?!??!?!?!! ) Yeh, so I met him, was talking to him loads, then he said "come upstairs to my penthouse flat above"....we went upstairs and past a bedroom with kiddies toys etc (Apple and Moses :nice: )...then into his kitchen/living room which was very swanky and nice...I thought, he does spend his money then! Then he was cooking some spaghetti for dinner! He gave me some, we sat at the table and ate it and then we went back down into the shop and my friend Helen had her camera and took some jokey photos with us all in...
RANDOM or what. :laugh3:

And yours? I read you bought tickets to IOW... I'm so jealous... I was soooo close to buy some for myself too...

Tony Blair is ok, he does what he thinks he has to. :) I liked him until the War in Iraq but I also don't pay much attention to politics. I only hate Angela Merkel so much and still want to have Schröder as chancelor again. ;)

Hm, I think I'll go off now! This morning I was sooo tired at work. It was brutal... :D Do you have a public holiday on Thursday in UK aswell? I can't wait to go out with my friends tomorrow. :) Good night everyone!

Steph, I can give you some German lessons if you want... :P

I'm working in a forwarding (is it the right word?).

It's a bit boring at the moment, but I'm young and I need the money lol. :P

Ah your German is perfect, no mistakes! :) I'm very surprised!

Yeah on Thursday it's "father day" and "Christi-Himmelfahrt" together, so every father is going to drink with other fathers. It's always funny. ^^

Saiqa, that sentence was right! :)

crazyduckette
23-05-2006, 09:30 PM
We have a bank holiday public holiday on Monday! but not Thursday.

Forwarding, is that like freight/parcels/logistics kinda thing?

the only things i can rmr are luftwaffe and bliztkrieg, which are all war terms that i had to learn for a history project... its like knowing M-16 and AK-47 for goodness's sakes.

Ah, no on the following monday we don't have holiday but the monday on June 5th... ;)

Yes indeed, you're right with forwarding. I'm still very surprised you made no mistakes. :) Naturwissenschaften = scientist :)

Saiqa, German is very similar to English...

house = Haus; mouse = Maus; fish = Fisch; bed = Bett; beer = Bier etc. ^^ But the grammar is more difficult than English...

I'm sorry that I must leave you now. :( Good night! And Kara... I hope you'll dream of Chris again. ^^

Edit: Oh you learnt those words Saiqa? Luftwaffe -> Luft (air) waffe (weapon) ; Blitzkrieg -> Blitz (lightning) krieg (war)
It's not good hearing those words... always remind me of WW II. :(

oh my goodness, it is SO HOT in texas! it's ridiculous. it's up to about 95 fahrenheit here, which is i guess about 35 celsius. and to add to that is the houston humidity, which is about 100% all the time. blegh

crazyduckette
23-05-2006, 10:44 PM

Yeah, he was born in Southampton, or? I really like his dialect and I'm sure you'll have the same one. ;) But in general I like the British accent very much, although for a German it's much easier to understand someone from the US than from UK. :P

Indeed, Mark! :) That's true! What are you doing there or is this question too personal for you?

A new way of looking at crime statistics has named Nottingham as the most crime-ridden place in England and Wales.
It had four times the amount of crime seen in the towns placed at the bottom of the table - Southend in Essex and Poole in Dorset.
Remarkably, London was placed midtable - in 29th place - sandwiched between Blackpool and Exeter.
Independent think-tank Reform said its league table of all 55 towns and cities with more than 100,000 residents revealed "huge variations" in urban crime rates.
It took latest figures for seven types of crime - murder, rape, burglary, robbery, car crime and gun crime - and came up with a crime level per 1,000 residents.
Nottingham - nicknamed "Assassination City" for its high level of gun crime - had 115.54 crimes in the overall calculation, followed by Leeds with 107.22, Stockport with 100.42 and Bradford with 100.4.
In comparison, the towns with more than 100,000 residents which came out at the bottom of the list were Southend with 30.91, Poole with 32.71 and Colchester with 33.9.
Nottingham also came top of the league table for murder, with 5.21 for every 100,000 population, followed by St Helens with 4.87, while London was 21st with 2.12.
The authors said it showed "dramatic variations" between towns of similar size - such as Nottingham's 115.5 compared with Wolverhampton (49.1) and Reading (43.4), which also have about 250,000 residents. Report co-author Blair Gibbs said: "The Government's key message that crime has been falling masks a huge variation between the safest and most dangerous urban areas. Better information and improved policing based on direct accountability to local communities is urgently needed to drive down crime and increase public safety."

The authors of a league table of crime hotspots hope it will enable communities to demand a better performance from their local police force.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41677000/jpg/_41677212_gun_pabody.jpg The study covered seven different crime categories

But Reform's listing showing wide variations across England and Wales has been accused of being misleading by some of the areas branded the "most dangerous".
And the think tank itself admits the presentation "masks the wide disparity" of crime rates in London.
While police and the Home Office contend such a listing is not an accurate way of measuring crime, Reform says a similar US project has shown detailing data city-by-city can provide a "powerful incentive" on local agencies to improve.
"Better information is a key means to improve the performance of public services," said Reform director Andrew Haldenby.
"For services such as policing, where choice does not apply, it allows local communities to compare the performance of different police units and to demand better performance."
Urban areas
Nottingham was ranked the most dangerous urban area with a population of more than 100,000, with a crime rate per 1,000 people which was four times higher than in places such as Southend and Poole.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gifhttp://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/start_quote_rb.gif It is however as close to a standardised measure as it is possible to get http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/img/v3/end_quote_rb.gif

Crime study angers city (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5006852.stm)

London was placed 29th out of 55 in the comparison, but if its highly-populated boroughs were counted individually, eight of the country's top 20 crime spots could be found in the city.
Reform's study classed Portsmouth worst for rape and Manchester worst for robberies.
However, police figures show the London boroughs of Hackney and Lambeth had the highest number of rapes in the period surveyed, while the five worst areas for robbery are all in the capital.
London's position in the list is due to the fact that figures from its 10 worst performing areas have been offset by lower crime rates in outlying boroughs such as Sutton and Kingston upon Thames.
'Criminological analysis'
Reform's findings were based on a comparison of seven categories of offences - murder, robbery, rape, burglary, vehicle crime, gun crime and assault.

The report gathered statistics from police figures for 2004-2005 using the Freedom of Information Act and took population data from the 2001 Census.
Rape and robbery are regarded as more serious offences by the courts than vehicle crime but high incidences of the latter would impact on a city's placing in the table.
Reform said its seven categories were "popularly associated" with the main types of crime perceived as a threat to property or person by the public.
Taken together they typically represented 34% of all property crime and 69% of all violent crime, it said.
The think tank stressed the listing was not intended to be a criminological analysis.
It did not set out to look at the causes of crime or factor in demographics of each area or whether crime was rising or falling.
"It is however as close to a standardised measure as it is possible to get for the purposes of comparison, even accepting variations in police performance with regard to detection of offences and factors affecting the willingness of the public in different areas of the country to report crime," Reform said.
'Incomparable' data
Reform's study found Nottingham, at 115 crimes per 1,000 people was also more affected than areas of a similar size such as Wolverhampton on 49 per 1,000 and Reading on 43 per 1,000.
Nottinghamshire Police said it was unfair that the city was being compared with areas which have large swathes of countryside and the council said if its suburbs were taken into account, it would be in 15th place.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman, speaking after Leeds was placed second and Bradford fourth, said the listing was based on data which is "incomplete and incomparable".
The Home Office said two independent reviews of crime statistics were likely to make recommendations regarding the best way to present data in the future.
Social and economic conditions differ between areas and the variations in the Reform league table should not be seen as unexpected, it said. "Some higher crime areas can have effective mechanisms in place for bearing down on crime and year on year variation in crime would influence rankings," a spokesperson added.
