who is Howie Day? :?
Majson
26-05-2003, 06:04 PM
oo Well there's like 3 "simialr" artists
Matt Nathanson
Howie Day
Jason Mraz
(im gonna include mayor int his though i think he sucks)
All influence each other.
Day is friends with mayor and they sometimes do a few shows together, Mraz is influcned by the same influneces of the rest...
Howie Day, however, is a solo acousitc guitar player, who ususe loop machines and his guitar to give the fll band sound when live on stage
he's 22, young, and talented.
His album is called australia, and my fave song on it at the moment is Sorry, so sorry
walkingcontradiction
27-05-2003, 10:48 AM
Oh yeah I heard "sorry so sorry" on the radio the other day..
I think he did a duet with Mayor... it was "Sorry so sorry" too.. I think
Majson
27-05-2003, 12:26 PM
Must have been a live evrsion of Sorry so sorry for the duet with Mayor.
They've done a few live duets because they've toured together, and as they're friends they just have fun :)

uuurgh..don't mention Mayor and Mraz in the same sentance again! even tho mraz likes mayor..ergh
Mraz is good, directly influenced by so many great players/bands etc./....and a lot fo dave matthews influence..which is nice.
Mraz is good, i love him live over studio, like Howie day and dave amtthews....he's in that area..not on the same level yet but yay anyways
The Remedy is ok, i prefer bright eyes and conversation with myself
check out Howie Day too then if you like Mraz
Everything else, sorry, so sorry and Ghost are all good songs

I know what you mean about the live performances. Those are what sold me. His music is pretty "pop-ey" to begin w/ which wasn't really my style.. but when I saw him live, I was AMAZED. He's coming to LA again, which I'm really excited about. I've seen him close to 20x live!! woohoo!! hehe. I'm tempted to buy tickets for pechanga, as well :smug:

Hey, out of curiousity, whatever happened between him and Tristan Prettyman? I don't really keep up with his blogs much and when I finally checked his website a few months ago he was single.
2732, he just came out with a new album (We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things) It actually came out a couple weeks before Viva La Vida so it was on repeat in my car pretty much before VLV took over lol "Love For A Child" is one of my faves in the album.
I also love Please Don't Tell Her...
well, basically, I love all the songs lol check out his previous albums :)
yay me - you're so lucky to live in CA and get to see him more!

He's pretty private about his relationships.... so as far as the details w/ him and Tristan, I'm not certain. But, I know for sure that it was over a long time ago. It's probably been over a year. When they were together, though I remember being at the Wiltern in 2006 in LA and seeing her drop him off at the venue. I also saw them together at the Home Depot center in Carson when he was opening for DMB. They were such a cute couple. Do you remember the I love TP shirt?? .. or the various acronym shirts he wore during live TV performances?? haha. . I think she was even the one that got him into surfing. As far as his new woman... I have no idea who it is..
Yeah, I had his WSWDWST CD on my CD player for a while. "Details in the Fabric" helped me get thru a hard time, too. His words really speak to the listener and you can tell he puts a lot of his heart and soul into his songs. If you haven't heard it, listen to the 10,000 Motherfuckers @ Java Joes... Youtube it. It's crazy emotional...
Yup, I'm glad I'm in SoCal. We get a lot of Jason down here. Hope he goes by your neck of the woods, soon. He'll be in Boston, Philadelphia and Wash. DC mid Oct. if you're willing to road trip.. :smug:
"Please Don't Tell Her"........."F*** You!!!" Part.... haha.. classic. :)
Sorry for my rambing. Glad to have found another fan

Hello, here's another admirer of Jason Mraz. ;)
I sort of got into him because I heard he and James Blunt were supporting each other on their tours back in 2005/2006 and I thought I might give that guy a listen. So I bought his album "Waiting for my rocket to come" and really enjoyed listening to that album now and then. :) Some months ago, I also got "Mr. A-Z" and I was very happy to hear there'd be a new album which I obviously tried to get as soon as it was available. And although I like "We sing, we dance, we steal things", I somehow prefer the older albums, especially "Waiting for my rocket to come" as for my favourite song "The Remedy (I won't worry)". I DO love "Plane" and of course "I'm yours", though. ;)
Finally, in May I'd have had the chance to see him in Munich but by the time my friend and I eventually had decided to go there, the show was already sold out. :( I was pretty down because of that as I'd have loved to see him live, but now I got a second chance as Jason will come back to Germany in September! :) So now I'm going to see him just about five days before the Coldplay gig... I'm really looking forward to autumn! :D
Do you know whether Lisa Hannigan will only support him on his US fall tour? Because I think it'd be just too great if I could see her as an opening act, too. I absolutely adore Damien Rice and never got to see him together with Lisa as she quit the band the day I went to see them... :\

JM certainly does deserve more attention. He has this talent that only smart people can see.. haha. :wink3: I definitely know he's much bigger everywhere else besides the U.S.A.. :laugh3: He does have a pretty devoted following, though. Many times I've been to a concert of his that sells out very quickly but no one knows who he is. There's a reason his fan following is so devoted.... if you've been to a live performance, you'll know!!

OMG, YES!!! Please stick around, and I'm sure you'll have your mind blown!! He's a very personable guy. He does a lot of banter w/ the audience in addition to his songs and it really feels like he belongs on that stage. If you don't stick around for all of the concert, just please do yourself a favor and stick around for at least one song. I'm sure you won't be disappointed! In the meantime, visit the beginning of this thread as I've posted some of his videos. They're awesome. And this man can REALLY put on a live show. I really enjoy Jason's music. Since the first time I heard The Remedy on the radio, I was hooked. I just saw him at a music festival a few weeks back. Although he wasn't the headlining act, he definitely brought the house down. I had such a great time singing along to all the songs.
And he seems like a very nice guy. A friend of mine waited for him outside his hotel and she managed to get a picture and several autographs.

Yeah, he's a very nice guy. I have a picture of him as he was leaving The Roxy in Los Angeles. Also, recently at a gig in LA, there was a line waiting to get in about 12 hours before the gig. So in the afternoon before the concert, he actually sat outside w/ the people in line and played a few songs as well as well as flowed w/ a couple of lucky fans. :shocked2: they were SO excited! here are a few pics of him entertaining the small crowd. :D

I HIGHLY recommend you see him as soon as he's in your area. I can guarantee that any price, really, is worth seeing this guy live. I once put my $35 tickets for his show in Solana Beach, CA on Ebay, and it sold for over $350 (for 2 tix). Though any price is really worth it, do check Craigslist, first, and check back a couple times on ticketmaster. Sometimes people's credit cards get denied and they re-list the ticket. Please, go see this guy. You won't regret it! :smug:

Oh wow, thanks for the advice! I can imagine his shows being really amazing without crazy fans and chaos...just great music! I'll try to order the tickets though because I really want to see him! :)

Except for the occasional crazy fan girlie out there, my experience of seeing over 10 shows has been pretty good. There is a huge mix of people there ranging from about 15-60ish years old. haha. so, I can't say there's really one type of crowd....oh yeah.. but there are mostly girls.. :laugh3: My last concert did sorta feature stuff off his new album, and I did notice a different crowd emerging. And it did get kind of annoying. But, Mr. Mraz always seems to keep people interested and in general people are pretty respectful.
If you ever do get to go, please report back here and tell me what you think! Good luck!

Going to see him in 19 days, I just can't wait! :)
Being honst, I haven't entirely listened to his new album for a whole while as I thought it just can't be any better than "Waiting for my rocket to come", but some weeks ago, I actually carefully listened to all the new songs and I should say I just love them all now! Especially "Coyotes" and "Details in the fabric". I think Jason's and James's voice fits together quite well! :)
Ooh, I just can't wait to see him live! I wonder how the setlist will be like... Does anybody have any clues?
Btw, it's been confirmed that Ingrid Michaelson will be the support act. I think her songs are quite sweet and she's a worthy "alternative" to Lisa Hannigan. ;)

I bought his album yesterday. I thort it was a good chillout album. With a mix of lots of genres. If he comes to Australia, I'll go see him for sure!
I want to get his b-sides tho.

So, I've decided that I will stay for his part of the show after Lisa is done.
Can anyone suggest any songs for me to listen to so I can get into the Jason Mraz groove?
Thanks! :)

YAY!!! Ok.. Some good songs to look out for.. "I'm yours" of course... but that probably won't happen until later on in the show. I just saw him recently in Cabazon and he started off w/ the song that made him popular, "The Remedy"..... I'm pretty sure you'll get hooked in pretty quick. Besides being really cute :) He's got some awesome horns playing and some gospel singers! Dynamo of Volition is a good one. It's where he's rapping in the beginning. :)
Please let us know what you think.
Here's a pic of Jason w the gospel singers.

I had the same feelings about these two concerts, hahaha!
Jason was amazing (he's a gazillion times better live, and so entrentaining), but somehow I was not as excited as seeing Coldplay.
Perhaps it's because I've been a Coldplay fan longer (2000 vs. Mraz's since 2003). Obviously, I waited longer to see Coldplay (8 freakin' years!!!!). Even though they both came to Tampa on 2005, I had no money for tickets back then.
This year couldn't end better: Coldplay on Nov 7th, and Jason Mraz on Dec 4th.
BEST NIGHTS OF THIS YEAR FOR ME :D
