AAC to MP3 is it possible?

From much Googling it looks like a big fat no, but I wondered if anyone else knew?

When you PAY for a song from iTunes they protect it so you can't use it with any other music player (which is sucky cos I paid for it, it's my song, I should be able to play it wherever I like). But anyway I usually put music on my pod using Realplayer (cos I don't like using itunes), but I can't because of the stupid AAC format. Any ideas how to convert it? I've looked elsewhere but it has been of no use.

And before you say 'why don't you just use itunes to put it on your ipod?'. I can't because itunes likes to erase my pod whenever I connect it :rolleyes:

This is what I do with songs brought from iTunes music store:

when you download the songs, try to put all the m4p files in a playlist. Insert a blank cdr and burn an audio disc. Once it has finished being burned, and the cd has appeared in itunes, delete the m4p files from the libary and import the files as mp3's from the cdr.

Gah, I remember a program I downloaded that let me open iTunes files in it and edit them... I think it's called SoundStudio. It's only for Mac's, though.

If it was protected wma files to mp3, than I believe Total Recorder can open the wma files up and you can export as mp3. However I don't think they work with m4p files. The best way is to burn to a cdr and import as mp3 files.

I heard that if you have a mac, you can convert aac to mp3 there. whatever, i don't have a mac so i'm at a lost. but maybe you do? maybe you dont? haha who knows. old thread anyway.

why would one want to convert from AAC to Mp3? AAC, depending on the bitrate, usually has a hight quality to it, although this is disputable. Converting from the file's original format will make it lose some of the quality, no matter what youre converting to.

People convert from m4p to mp3/m4a/wma to get rid of the protection on the files (so they can put them onto another mp3 player which doesn't support apple's fairplay policy).

But it's true, AAC is basically mp3 mk.2 (developed and owned by the same people), so it has a better quality than mp3 :)

Try SoundTaxi (http://www.soundtaxi.info) - it's a nice one converting tool, which helps to crack media protection... so you'll be able to use your iPod without any limits!

Hmmm I use TuneBite to convert .wma files into .mp3. Maybe it works for .aac too?

I use Switch and it's fantastic as it converts many other formats as well.

I use the old burn to cd, re-rip as mp3 method to strip protection.
