What do you think about Idlewild ??
This bend started coldplay concert in Glasgow but it wasn't welcome...
It's probably an error because they're playing a good rock and I think they can become a great bend soon ...

:( I couldn't go because I needed the money for my uni internal faculty transfer application fee. Oh well, they'll come again in time. But I found some funny quotes that'll cheer me up and give you a giggle. Background info: I live in Edmonton, home of the largest mall in the world.

Allan: "We had 2 days off before the gig[May 2001] and the bus parked outside in the car park, and we stayed in the bus. I had to wander around the mall for three days. I was going mad. But there's a nice pirate ship in the middle of it."

Buttercup

Sorry to hear that you couldn't go Jess!

But that is pretty funny! I think I would have collapsed and got disoriented somewhere cos malls give me headaches if I stay in there too long... :D :-D

I saw them support Coldplay at Wembley, but at the time I wasn't really into them! 'The Remote Part' is a very good album though :)

17-07-2003, 05:37 PM
easily one of the best and most under-rated bands in the last 6/7 years. i suppose they are an aquired taste to some peoples ears, but to me they are top 5 without a doubt. 'The Remote Part' wasn't their best effort to date and you should check out their earlier stuff, 'Captain', 'Hope Is Important' and '100 Broken Windows'. i was gutted about Bob leaving the band just before the start of the Coldplay tour, to me he was the energy in the band and its missed now i feel.

Hey, i've watched Idlewild twice...and have a few photos of him is anyone is a really big fan and wants me to scan and send them. i saw them once supporting Coldplay, and another time headlining a University near to me. i actually preferred the support band 'Eska' but Idlewild were still really good..i didn't really know much of their music at that point. That was actually my first gig too!! I was quite late in going to see my first band, 16 i think. :blank:

IDLEWILD are back, and with a bang, i went to buy the new single last night, and they're back to their best, and as if they'd never been away for long, well maybe a few things have changed, like bob isn't their anymore, but the new stuff is sounding great and the album WARNINGS/PROMISES is out on march 11, followed by the release of the new OASIS album, "don't believe the truth" on the 20th i think???, not sure of exact date, but saw it advertised in HMV this month, it's all looking good this month. oh yeah...IDLEWILD RAWK!!!

i didn't mind some of the songs on the Oasis Third album, songs like All Around The World though.. :uneasy: ..i don't know why Noel re-recorded that..it's not great at all..you'd think his song writing talents would have got better therefore, not having to bring that back from 12 years previous. I hope this next oasis album is great, i'd really like that...but i can't see it happening

why?, their last album, heathen chemistry was a classical album

Im pretty sure it goes down as being a ROCK album Jay.

But uh, there is some Tchaikovsky influence in there...

Idlewild

"Make Another World"

4 out of 5 stars

Scottish rockers Idlewild have accomplished a lot in their 12-year lifespan and have covered a diverse range of sounds.

Back when they first put music to tape, you could describe their sound as a mixture of Brit-pop and punk rock, with the emphasis on the second half of that description. As the years passed, the pendulum swung toward the other direction, with the last album "Warnings/Promises" far outperforming Coldplay's "X&Y."

This latest offering and fifth overall provides a nice balance between these two sounds, much like the 2002 album "The Remote Part." For Idlewild's last album the guitars would best be described as "shimmering," and they once again simmer with a fuzzed-out crunch.

However, where this differs from their earlier works is in that lead singer Roddy Woomble's lyrics still remain as reflective as they were on "Warnings/Promises."

The culmination results in a sound that manages to remain both edgy without turning away current fans. If you're looking for a UK alternative to Coldplay, then this is it.

Granted, 100 Broken Windows and The Remote Part are equally brilliant albums.
I wish they'd be making more albums like that.

One of my favourite bands.

Can't believe there's not been a thread for them already! :dead:

I agree with 'RadioMad' - 100 broken windows and The Remote part were fucking brilliant Albums!

Though I loved Warnings/Promises aswell.

only really into about 3 or 4 songs from the make another world album.
it was, lets face it... dreadful.

They need to get back to writing like they used to.

none of this "we wanted to JUST write a rock record and forget the folk and acoustic stuff!"
Tell me Ten words is my favourite song, it is EPIC.

Idlewild are pleased to announce plans for our forthcoming new studio album with an opportunity for our fans to be involved from an early stage.

We will be in the studio for the first few months of 2009 and plan a conventional album release in the summer, but for a limited time, we would like to offer our fans a chance to be involved from the beginning by pre-ordering directly from us a special edition album along with plenty of extras. This offer is available worldwide so that finally our fans overseas will have the chance to hear our music at the same time as everyone in the UK and before any general release.

Here's how it works:
By pre-ordering now for £15 (+ £1.50 standard postage costs) you will receive:

- A limited edition CD album (with free download version) in exclusive packaging and including at least one bonus track not available on the general release. This will be shipped to you within weeks of completion, hopefully April (although we cannot guarantee it), way before any general release.
- Your name will appear in a booklet with the album and on a roll-call on the website.
- You will be given access to download 15 free tracks of your choosing from live recordings at the King Tuts "album by album" shows in December '08.
- You will also have access to a members only section of the website with album progress updates, exclusive photo and video content from the recording and pre production process, diaries/blogs by individual band members, and lots more good stuff....
