One of Manchesters Greatest bands if not the greatest band to come from Manchester. Apart from CP what does any body else think to.

The Stone Roses The Very Best Of.

This was brought due the fact, I had already brought, the first album, and I heard the Second Coming was not that great. This Album is excellent loads of Songs one to mention "Ten Story Love Song" Tells a story of my life. "Fools gold" is also a superb tune, the full 12 minute version. And "I am the Resurrection" John Squire is in superb form, for his guitar chords, it follows a perfect tempo, and a arrangement of which words it self would not justify it.

He's the guy in my avatar, and a musical legend. Along with the Happy Mondays his band (The stone Roses) ruled the Madchester scene. He resembles a monkey, and is proud of it, so proud in fact during the recording of the The Stone Roses second and last album titled the "The Second Coming" he made fellow band member Reni, Mani (know Primal Scream's bassist) and John Squire call him "King Monkey"

With his unique vocal's (he sounds like he is strangling a cat) and amazing lyrics, he must be one of Britains musical heroes. His three solo albums my not have the crytical acclaim of the two he made with the Stone Roses, but they are still mighty fine.

Recommend Listening (solo work) ...

*Gravy Train
*F.E.A.R
*El Mundo Pequeno
*Dolphins Where Monkeys
*My Star
*Whispers

Recommended Work (Stone Roses) ...

*Sally Cinnamon
*Fools Gold
*She Bangs The Drums
*Waterfalls
*I Anm The Resurrection

This is a picture of the touring band. The guy in the middle in Goldfinger, he is the percussionist and a top bloke and the guy in the green jacket is Aziz, a mighty fine guitarist.

The Roses are definitely my favorite band of all-time... Coldplay's obviously my favorite active band....

Ian Brown's great.... his best days were with the Stone Roses back in the 80's, but he's still been able to carve a niche for himself today.

Best Stones stuff:

-I Wanna Be Adored
-She Bangs The Drums
-Made Of Stone
-I Am The Resurrection
-Fool's Gold
-Love Spreads
-Mersey Paradise
-Begging You

Best solo stuff:
-Superstar
-F.E.A.R.
-The Gravy Train
-Set My Baby Free

It's hillarious, cuz his before the Roses made it big, Brown used to do a lot of speed... which meant all his songs were sung at a ridiculously fast tempo. Then he started doing dope and what not, and it helped him establish his signature singing style, not to mention slowing down his singing. Though he's done too much of it so that his voice is not as strong as it used to be in the past.

F.E.A.R is one of the best recent songs written I think  Its just so clever :D

"Finding Eternity Arouses Reactions, Freeing Excellence Affects Reality, Falling Empires Are Running, Find Earth And Reap, Fantastic Expectations Amazing Revelations, Final Execution And Resurrection, Free Expression As Revolution, Finding Everything And Realising........you got the FEAR"
I just had to post that, cos Ian Brown is a great lyricist

They were very good. I didn't used to like them, but I've really been getting into them over the last few years. I've been meaning to buy the second album, but a lot of people say it's not that brilliant so I've been putting it off for ages.

My favourite song has to be I Am The Resurrection.

Other favourites are Sally Cinnamon, I Wanna Be Adored, Fool's Gold, and Waterfalls.

his Voice is awful i think...apart from when it takes him a while to sing it correctly, like on the albums. Watching Him Live was embarassing, i didn't like to look him in the eye.I like Stone Roses stuff, and his solo albumss, and his tune he sings with U.N.K.L.E.
I saw him live in Newcastle, they soundchecked with She's A Waterfall..he didn't sing it though. he stuck his thumb up at me and waved at my [then  ] Girlfriend. his guitarist had these amazing lights on his guitar, little lazers.
he was supporting The Manic Street Preachers

Artist Ian Brown Plus Support Act
Date 19th October 2004
Venue The Carling Apollo Manchester

From the moment I knew about this concert my countdown had started. I heard pretty good reviews about Ian Brown before going. What happened was something I will remember for ever and ever. And a memory that will last until the end of my time.

Aziz was Ians support act, he is a true master class and a excellent musician. Those who know his music are true people that understand and know their music. He plays with a mate of his called Dalbar who plays the bongo drums the commutation between them can be felt in a special place deep inside your soul.

Any way down to Ian.....
He opens up with Destiny of Circumstance, and well written song of the new Album. Meaning about someone I sure he has loved has for sometime.

Then it happened what was about to happen for the next thirty minutes was a ' New Heaven' itself' The first 2 cords of Sally Cimon started the place just went crazy.
Words defeat me on how electric the atmosphere was. It was the night when the Music came home to Manchester. It was such a special night. For the people of Manchester. One mate quoted it was just as a good as winter Gardens and that would be the closest ever experience to seeing the Roses perform.

Halfway though his Stone Roses set he asked the crowd for any special request. The crowd lost for words just laughed so out of breath and in absolute bliss of what they just witness.

After playing ’Sally Cinnamon’ ’(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister’ ’Where Angels Play’’Waterfall’ ’Made Of Stone’ ’She Bangs The Drums’ he took a few moments out and played Golden Gaze which sounded just as a good as it did on the CD. The crowd needed a break I think a few heart attacks was about to happen amongst the late 20 early 30 something's in the crowd.

I noticed Ian gauging the crowds reaction to tunes like 'Longsight M13' a true personal favourite of mine from the New Album Sorlaized, little did some of the crowd knew that he was just singing about a place with its geographical location mealy yards away from the Carling Apollo. He also went on to sing Time is my everything a tune which I reckon is going to a hit of his in the months to come of the new Album a perfect, and I mean perfect love tune. He took a few seconds break with the crowd in between tunes chanting his name 'IAN, 'IAN, 'IAN, 'IAN, and Ian Brown. He must of loved it then played the atmospheric F.E.A.R. in my opinion one of the best written tunes this side of the century.
It was time for yet a another Treat from the Roses Achieve. All together now. I wanna, I wanna I wanna be adorderd graced and filled out souls. I could not belive what had happend so far this night I knew the night would be special this specail was never on the cards it felt like the Roses had come home.

He came on for 2 encores one with Noel Gallagher himself was inturrpeted by someone thowing a pint of water or beer over him Neol went of stage. However this failed to dampan the night. He finshed of with a few other tunes I did not know.
But what else can I say. I got three gigs for the price of one. Aziz, Ian and the Roses.
I can honesltly say this was on of my best nights ever. !!!!!!!!!!!!
A night that will also hold a specail place in Manchesters Music History for ever.

Set list
’Destiny Of Circumstance’
’Sally Cinnamon’
’(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister’
’Where Angels Play’

I can not understate my love for the stone roses ever .....

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
I'll tell you my story man, I wish I'd never been born
I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams
And my hand, it shakes the pen
Come on, come on now, baby, let the good times roll again, yeah

Where did our sweet love go? Who stole away our time?
Why do the stars above refuse to shine?
The harder I try to paint a picture of the way it was back then
The more I miss the good times, baby, let it roll again

Good times baby, this is the time
I need to know that your love is mine
Love me up, yeah, reel me in
I'm hooked, line and sinker, she's my heroin

How many days have I been lying on my back
Staring at the ceiling girl, stretching on your rack?
The harder I try to paint a picture of the way it was back then
The more I miss the good times, baby, let it roll again

Good times baby, this is the time
I need to know that your love is mine
Love me up, yeah, reel me in
I'm hooked, line and sinker, she's my heroin

Said I'm hooked now, I'm not fakin',
I'm here till the day I die
can't get enough now, my heart is aching
I'm in too deep to stop, all I want is those
Good times baby, this is the time
I need to know that your love is mine
Love me up, yeah, reel me in
I'm hooked, line and sinker, she's my heroin

Yah, I wont get into details. If anyone went to the Toronto show, you know what I am talking about. There were sound problems throughout the whole show, I think he played max 20 minutes.

HHAhahahahaha Browne has been arrested for such incidents in past... IN California someone attacked him (' as he was on one and said this is fu###king shite and I am not f###king hanging around for his')(he does not like it when his sound plays up) , when he defended him self he was arrested.

BTW if u heard this song ur perception of the roses would be so different

Tightrope....

You should have been an angel, it would've suited you
My gold-leafed triptych angel, she knows just what to do
In the half light of morning, in a world between the sheets
I swear I saw her angel wing, my vision was complete

And I know I'll never want another lover, my sweet
Can there be more in this world than the
joy of just watching you sleep?
I don't know just what to feel
Won't someone tell me my love's real?

Are we etched in stone or just scratched in the sand
Waiting for the waves to come and reclaim the land?
Will the sun shine all sweetness and light
Burn us to a cinder, our third stone satellite?
I'm on a tightrope, baby, nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky
I'm on a tightrope, one thing I've found
I don't know how to stop, and it's a
long, long, long, long way down

She's all that ever mattered, and all that ever will
My cup, it runneth over, I'll never get my fill
The boats in the harbour, slip from their chains
Head for new horizons, let's do the same
I'm on a tightrope, baby, nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky
I'm on a tightrope, one thing I've found
I don't know how to stop, and it's a tightrope baby
nine miles high
Striding through the clouds, on my ribbon in the sky
I'm on a tightrope, one thing I've found
I don't know how to stop, and it's a
long, long, long, long way down

I will play this at me wedding if and when I have one.... !!

I've seen your severed head at a banquet for the dead
All dressed up dinner, looked so fine
Your shining silver salver so tastefully powdered
With the finest military quick lime

Now try and picture this, as I gave you a kiss
The apple in your mouth slipped in mine
The orchestra played the sweetest serenade
We laughed as we put away your wine

So raise your glasses, here's a toast to wasted lives
May all their ghosts come back to haunt you
And tell you how they died

How do you sleep?
How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay?
How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away?
Does it feel any better now?
Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking,
And banging at your door?

When all the fun was over, I put you on my shoulder
took you home, away from it all
Shot down and claimed, mounted and framed
Tastefully hung up on my wall
Are my dreams your nightmares? I hope they all come true
Get off your knees, the party's over
I'm coming home to you

How do you sleep?
How do you last the night and keep the dogs at bay?
How do you feel when you close your eyes, and try and drift away?
Does it feel any better now?
Does it mean any more when the angel of death comes knock, knocking,
And banging at your door, at your door?

no they dont......... influence on music today is the Beatles... they paved the way...

Reilly
20-05-2005, 10:49 PM
Yes they do. Beatles paved the way for the Stone Roses, Stone Roses paved the way for Oasis and 50 other bands from Manchester (I would say literally about 40 or 50 that have made it big from the Roses' sound).

And then of course everyone before the Beatles paved the way from them. Musical creativity is only based on taking whats coming from the past and trying to use it effectively, thats why the first known music was monks humming to eachother for hours (SHIT)

Where was I! Well, Stone Roses have influenced a LOT of BRITISH music Daryl, not so much on the States....

Message to Hayley

2 more days hey hayley.. sorry if u did not find Manchester a great place I love a great deal...
I was not atucally born in Manchester and i did hate the place at first ... but over the years I have grew to Love the place and feel proud for the City I live in !

Just picked up a copy of City Life. Ian Brown is on the front cover with a very fine write up inside.

Anyway, when asked the obvious question, this was his response...

"go on,"he laughs. " I know exactly what you're going to ask..."

There has been a lot of talk in the press of a possible Roses reunion, a topic that Noel himself was talking about in last week's issue.

"Well, all I've got to say is, why would I have to do that?" he reasons. "I put everything into the Roses - my whole life went in. It didn't get to where we thought it'd get to, but for the last eight or nine years." he whistles, "what a life I've had. I can make my own music with no barneys. You know, I think musically we're too far apart to get back together. If you play one of my solo albums then play one of John's, we're miles apart so I can't see how we'd got together musically now. Music's an intimate thing and I don't know how we'd do that now"

Still, playing old songs at his solo dates and coupled with the fact that he's still close to Mani - the most vocal supporter of a mooted reunion - does entitle people to wonder....

"Mani's great," says Brown. "I still think he's the best bass player in the UK - I always have done. But I've just got no inclination to do it - I'm having too much fun. I never set out to have a solo career, but I'm about to release a greatest hits, y'know? I was sat there looking at the ideas for the cover and thought 'I never dreamed of having a solo career but wow, check it out, I'm looking at all this cool packaging and that...."

bart, you might be able to help me.

We (me and two friends- both girls) are going to England this year.

I absolutely wanna go to Manchester coz I wanna see a match of Manchester United. They aren't interested in football. Now, I have to persuade them...

Why could it be interesting for them to come to Manchester?

^ It's really good for shopping ;)

Also, it has excellent bars and clubs to suit everyone's taste. :)

My eight year old asked me the other day..."Which is the best band, like, ever - Coldplay or Stone Roses?"

I've got to admit I was stumped!

Black Rose
