I used to be a BIG Ben Folds Five fan... I think Ben Folds is immensely talented and I loved their style of music and the fun that went with it. I had their first two albums, saw them live in manchester in 96, didnt get the one about the army and havent yet got his solo album. So imagine my suprise when in HMV on Friday I spotted a NEW Ben Folds Live album! Apart from the fact that it had a free live DVD in the box too (which is amazing! his rendition of Elton's Private Dancer - one of my favourite songs ever is awsome!), there is a live cd with 17 tracks spanning mostly his more recent material - well what did i think of it - ITS AMAZING!!! Why oh why did i not get his latest material before!?!?! There is one song called "Not The Same" where he gets the audience to do the backing choir sounds and its brilliant!
Ben Folds you are a genius - please keep going!!
:P
did you ever hear the song air (it was on some soundtrack) i like that one........ and i have Whatever And Ever Amen........i liked brick. when was that *ginger's thinking* its seems like a long time ago.

Actually, all I watch is the soaps, some news, a bit of music if I like what's on and Graham Norton. Oh yeah, Sex and the City and Six Feet Under too. And some comedy shows you've probably never heard of. And some documentaries.

My favorite song of his (alone) would be either Not the Same (about his friend tripping out on acid, and waking up a born again christian) or There's Always Someone Cooler than You
Favorite Ben Fols Five song = Mess, please give this song a listen, its incredible both lyrically and musically, the Five at the top of their game

I love Ben´s music... since I discovered, he turns into one of my favorite musicians ever... I have many favorites, somedays is this one, anothers is other one... but he ´s sooo amazing... I haven´t seen him in live, but I have the extra dvd of Ben Folds Live... so, at least is something, jeje. :P
You know, I found two of the three Ben Folds Five cds in TWO dollars, NEW, in one store here in Mexico... I had listened one song before, so I took the risk buying the third one... and after I heard it I was like: why in the earth they put this cd´s on that low prices and they sold britney spears stupidities in 200 or 300 pesos!! he,he... I guess there´s not good musical taste here... :(
but I was lucky, because I could buy them in a good price!!! :dozey:

i love ben folds & ben folds five.
i like rockin' the suburbs album.. but not rockin the suburbs song. which is weird, i know.
i really like Army, Battle of Who Could Care Less, Evaporated, One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces, There's always someone cooler, Narcolepsy, and Brick (of course). oh and luckiest, fred jones pt 2, and ok im going to stop coz im jsut gonna name more and more songs. but yeah i really liek ben folds [five] lol

01-08-2006, 03:23 AM
lol I don't really care for the song Rockin' the Suburbs either. Though I do like to listen to it when I'm pissed off. :wink3:
Fred Jones Pt. 2 is one of my favorites, definitely. Cigarette as well (ie, Fred Jones Pt. 1), The Ascent of Stan (love the wicked piano), Still Fighting It, Philosophy... oh man I could go on as well.
I'm really looking for some good sheet music too, cause listening to him just makes me want to jam. :D
fred jones pt 2 makes me really sad.. but its a good kind of sad.. and i sing really loudly with it.. albeit off key but whatever. its in the privacy of my own room. lol

Yeah Philiosophy used to be my favorite too. "Get that bitch off somebody...scream it" That and One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces. I had those 2 songs for the longest time before I'm like...."hmmm Ben Folds?" and went out and randomly bought RtS. Good decision though :D
Oh man and I just found out he's coming to a city near me in November! I'm definitely going to by tix once they come on sale. :D :D :D
im waiting for him to put NYC in his tour somewhere,.. cmonnn ben! :D
i really like that he wrote songs for his little kiddies. hehe

Yeah "Still Fighting It" is like my favorite, and "Gracie" is a nice sweet song.
Anyways, I just spent the last hour learning the beginning of "The Ascent of Stan" on the piano. Ouch my wrists hurt!

Best Imitation of myself... gooooood. So is 'Gone' ...'Lullabye' is pretty.
and I love how Philosophy is of an unknow meaning :nice: Once I heard Ben say that the song 'might be about his penis.... I was like: "nah" But if you read the lyrics really make me believe its true
Won't you look up at the skyline
At the mortar, block, and glass
And check out the reflections in my eyes
See they always used to be there
Even when this was all was grass
And I sang and danced about a high-rise
And you were laughing at my helmet hat
Laughing at my torch
Go ahead and laugh all you want
I got my philosophy
And it keeps me on the ground
And I trust it like the ground
That's why my philosophy
Keeps me walking when I'm falling down
I see that there is evil
And I know that there is good
And the in-betweens I never understood
Would you look at me I'm crazy
But I get the job done
I'm crazy but I get the job done
So go ahead and laugh all you want
I got my philosophy
And I trust it like the ground
That's why my philosophy
Keeps me walking when I'm falling down
I pushed you cause I loved you guys
I didn't realize
That you weren't having fun
And I dragged you up the stairs
And I told you to fly
You were flapping your arms
Then you started to cry, you were too high
Now you take this all for granted
You take the mortar, block, and glass
And you forget the speech that moved the stone
And it's really not that you can't see
The forest from the trees
You just never been out in the woods alone
So you can laugh all you want to
But I've got my philosophy
Keeps my feet on the ground
And I love you you're my friend
But you got no philosophy
Now it's time for this song to end
'Kate' is really awesome too:
"And you can see the daisies
in her footsteps
Dandelions, butterflies
I wanna be Kate
Everyday she wears the same thing
I think she smokes pot
She's everything I want, She's everything I'm not"

So I'm just gonna throw it out there and say that James Blunt plagiarized Ben Folds. I had suspected it for a while, but I finally figured out the No Bravery's chord progression is a ripoff of The Ascent of Stan's intro. No Bravery is 10 steps lower (or 2 higher), but the progression is exactly the same... and it's an unusual one too. lol
Haha I sound like those radio jerks who did the Dani California thing. :laugh3:

i saw his perfomance of " such great heights" on JTV and he was really
spontaneous makes me think he'll be excellent live.
he got his band members to play a box with a spoon, another a glass. he played the paino but he put towels where those key stings things are, he played the song at a faster pase and at the end he got out his mobile phone and played the macarena.
LOL classic!

Ben Folds is a very good artist, songs for silvermen was one of the best albums of 2004.
Doesn't he release a cd of those EP tracks he recorded between rockin' the surbubs and songs for silvermen but with added strings onto the tracks soon?

Good news :D
Ben Folds unveils third solo album tracklisting
Details of the new Ben Folds album ‘Way To Normal’ have been revealed, with the disc slated to be released on September 30.
The album, which is the third from Folds as a solo artist, was recorded at his own studio in Nashville, TN and produced by Dennis Herring, who’s previously worked with the likes of Elvis Costello, The Hives and Modest Mouse.
Joining Folds on the record are bassist Jared Reynolds and drummer Sam Smith, and the first single from the album ‘You Don’t Know Me’ features vocals from Regina Spektor.
A portion of the record was written at the end of last year as Folds was finalising his divorce, and the album was almost titled ‘Blood On The Keyboard’, but Folds says the material was not inspired by the divorce:
"The songs are not topical. I was not interested in making a record about the D-word. I got all that stuff out of my system on the last record, which was deliberately stoic,” he says.
“This new album is really about me being free, which is why it feels cathartic and expressive. It's about me coming back to being myself. I came out of the courthouse, kissed the ground, and walked straight into the studio. I felt like a bottle of champagne that had been shaken for 18 months and popped open in the studio. That's why this record has so much energy."
The tracklisting is:
‘Hiroshima (B B B Benny Hits His Head)’
‘Dr. Yang’
‘The Frown’
‘You Don’t Know Me’ (featuring Regina Spektor)
‘Before Cologne’
‘Cologne’
‘Errant Dog’
‘Free Coffee’
‘Bitch Went Nuts’
‘Brainwascht’
‘Effington’
‘Kylie from Connecticut’
