He is playing in Toronto on November 19th. Tickets go on sale this Saturday for $25.50 which is a good price but I can't decide if I wanna go or not. I like his music but it's general admission and I dunno if I will like that kinda show.

Input please

You like John Mayer, Sweety?? I guess he's alright, but i haven't taken a close enough listen to his stuff?? Any songs that are really good??

Anyways, why don't you like the GA type shows??

"No Such Thing" drives me insane. :D

But if you like him, you should go to the concert. $25.50's a really good deal!

Well I have never been to a general admission show and I would assume that it can get squishy, and I get claustrophobic at times so that's why I am hesitant.
And I like him a lot. I think all of his songs are good, it's very mellow. I think if you don't like No Such Thing than you won't like his stuff that much. But three songs you could give a try are:
83
Great Indoors
St.Patrick's Day

8) :D :)

Hey Sweety, that's a pretty good reason for not liking the GA concerts...i'm kinda claustrophobic as well....

Wow..i guess i'll give those songs a try...hey, you never know i might end up liking his stuff!!!

Thanks a lot..

Oh...and I say that you should probably go, that is, if you think there is any way that you could get over the fear of large crowds and claustrophia...it's a great deal!!

Sweet

I'd totally go if I were you. I get a bit claustrophobic as well, but I did it for the CP show and it was completely worth it. I could not put my arm down to my sides, but I didn't care. I was so close, and that had been my plan all along.

I like John Mayer. I got his cd a few weeks ago, it's pretty good. Nothing to WOW, but good music anyway.

that one song.....what is it called.... i dont know but in the video there playing in a small place w/christmas lights hanging in the back i think its called no such thing or is that the name of the disc anyways i wasnt really into him but i kept hearing that song over and over and i kind of like it now.

but here's what you wanted to know i guess: if it were me i wouldnt go but since the tickets are that cheap and your pondering it then just go.

thanks for all your input
i am pretty sure i will go, just my friend that wants to go with me isn't allowed to take the subway home at night (paranoid mother) and parking is a pain downtown so i will have to figure it out.

and ginger the single is called no such thing you are right, his cd is called room for squares.

yeah thanks sarah. i say just take the subway. you wont have to worry about gas or parking, but if you do drive yourself good luck on the parking. and have fun.

If you don't like him from the stuff you've heard already then you probably won't like the rest of his stuff. I don't know what it is, but it seems like people either love him or hate him. It's very easy listening, kinda like David Gray but more pop...

I got John's live CD today, Any Given Thursday. I have been listening non-stop since I got it. It's so good, unfortunately I didn't get to see him when he came to Toronto (none of my fucking friends would go with me :x )

I still need to get his first album.

I like this song...
My stupid mouth
Has got me in trouble
I said too much again
To a date over dinner yesterday
And I could see
She was offended
She said "well anyway..."
Just dying for a subject change

Oh, another social casualty
Score one more for me
How could I forget?
Mama said "think before speaking"
No filter in my head
Oh, what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one soon

We bit our lips
She looked out the window
Rolling tiny balls of napkin paper
I played a quick game of chess with the salt and pepper shaker
And I could see clearly
An indelible line was drawn
Between what was good, what just slipped out and what went wrong

Oh, the way she feels about me has changed
Thanks for playing, try again.
How could I forget?
Mama said "think before speaking"
No filter in my head
Oh, what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one

I'm never speaking up again
It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery
Than she desert me

Oh I'm never speaking up again
Starting now

One more thing
Why is it my fault?
So maybe I try too hard
But it's all because of this desire
I just wanna be liked
I just wanna be funny
Looks like the jokes on me
So call me captain backfire

Oh, the way she feels about me has changed
Thanks for playing, try again.
How could I forget?
Mama said "think before speaking"
No filter in my head
Oh, what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one

I'm never speaking up again
It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery
Than she desert me

Oh I'm never speaking up again
Starting now

I was a big Mayer fan back when he was a local artist here in Atlanta. Then he got a band and released his CD, I wasnt that big into his CD when it came out... "Your Body is a Wonderland" is such a cheesy overly produced song. It sounded different on his first release of RFS, then they re-did his album (to make it even more poppy) and they totally went overboard.

Should you go see him live? yes, definitely, he hides himself on his album, but comes out on stage and shows you everything he's got. He's a great guitarist. He turns his songs into Jam sessions and goes all out on the solos.

I feel bad for the guy, He gets paid all this money, but the industry gets to have its way with his music, that makes me nervous as a musician.

big label: we'll pay you a million dollars if we can produce your record

Chad: wow, thats a lot of money, I could live the rest of my life on that, Ok, just dont go overboard with it

big label: trust us, we know what we're doing

*months later*

Rollingstone: Chad Yochum's Debut Album = * out of *****. He's a total John Mayer wannabe, we hope he'll be gone as soon as possible.

Chad: NOOOOOO

big label: heheheh, money money money

At first I hated this guy.. but only cause he's just really damn good.

I don't like his mouth.. it bugs me. If you know how John sings then you know what I'm talking about.

I would definitely recommend listening to a song called 3 x 5 ... very good stuff. My mom even went out and got the cd just for that song after I played it for her. Also a good song is St. Patrick's Day.

Enjoy!

John Mayer = my God. He really is. He makes some weird faces when he plays, but his music is just incendiary. His lyrics are amazing and he's got more talent with that guitar than he lets on on his CDs. When he jams, it's just like ... *dies*

meh not a fan of Mayer myself, i think his lyrics are downright pathetic and he tries to be something he isn't, how-ever i do think he can actually play guitar.

i how-ever prefer Jason Mraz, Howie day, Dave matthews (who john wants to be) etc

John is the man, I just saw him in St.Louis a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing. He not only has really good songs, but they're complicated as hell. My friend is really good at guitar and he can't even begin to play "Neon" b/c it's too hard, with the really weird chords and tapping on the guitar all at the same time. John's new cd is going to be out soon and I'll be sure to pick it up.

Majson
09-09-2003, 11:22 PM
Mraz isn't trying to be mayer....if anything he wants to be matthews, but mraz does not have the arrogence aroudn him that makes him seem like a pompus uptight ****...which mayer seems to have.

I'm not a fan of his album material, but what gives him so many fans is his live performaces, the dude can play guitar like a maniac, he turns his songs into jam sessions and just goes on and on. Thats basically how he made it big.

More about Howie Day. In my opinion Australia is a better album than Stop All The World Now. He also released an EP called The Madrigals EP which was two discs, one had 5 songs on it and the other was a DVD with about 25 minute live performance. Once you see Howie Day perform live you will be in total amazement at what he does live. He is incredible, I urge you to see some of his live performance stuff, I'm sure you can find it somewhere online.

Howie Day is heavily influenced by Jeff Buckley and I know you are a big Jeff fan so you will probably appreciate Howie's work. Howie also does lots of covers when he performs live. I have a good version of Lover You Should've Come Over by Howie :D

I thought I should share my concert-going experience of John Mayer. He played a lot of blues-y kind of stuff for covers. Most of his new stuff, from heavier things, makes me sick to the stomache. He did an awesome intro for Daughters though. He played the classics, which I was glad or I would've shot him. His acoustics are really good. He really is the most amazing guitar player i've ever seen, but the blues thing..i can't stand.

He also did this really interesting things with one of his backup guitar players. It was like...Guitar Twister....He stood with his back to the other guy, and played the other guys guitar, then the other guy played John's guitar with his arms around John.

Oh and when he screwed up lyrics they did something called "Where was John."

All in all good, but that blues stuff

i actually only went to the concert to see maroon 5. they were amazing. john surprised me and was a lot better then the last time i saw him.

i saw John last december and i was totally disappointed to say the least...i love room for squares and heavier things but the way that concert went was just wrong somehow. He had practically no interaction with the audience took too much time between the songs to change guitars, the setlist was rather miserable i missed lots of my fav songs...ah well i could go on forever. i think i expected just a bit more. the only thing that was spot on were the songs itself and John's voice.

what makes john really cute to me is the fact that he's not really all that different...you could pick a guy that dresses and looks like him off the street. he's your average good looking guy. i like that. makes you relate to him in a way.

that voice though, that's an above average voice...

I love john mayer. i saw him a few years ago in raliegh. he can be quite witty. in the concert he gave away a printer...he was making fun of eminem giving away some bling to a fan. my fav song from him is my stupid mouth. i cant get enough of that song. :P

does this mean he's doing more blues stuff? If so, that's pretty awesome. He actually has a lot of guitar talent, but he doesn't show it in the music he's writing now. Maybe he'll show it off on this tour.

i really like him, i didnt at first with all of his poppy bubble gum stuff, but it was obviously jsut to get his name in the media before he could drop the stuff he really likes (blues and soul) his newest album and the one before that are REALLY excellent pieces of music. He and i are basically the same kind of musician, blues roots in guitar, play the same style guitar, but likes the softer stuff as well.

i hear hes a dick tho! hahaha that sucks. But it still doesnt change the fact that he is an excellent musician.

for some of his newer work, get "waiting on the world to change"
great song about the Iraqi situation
