i saw them 2nite @ glastonbury.ooooooooh the crowd was going crazy when motorcycle emptiness and australia were played!
but i have to say........i was disappointed they didnt play more of their old stuff
One of my fave bands since years ago. I think they're a brilliant, talented and amazing band. 'Everything must go' and 'This is my truth tell me yours' are a classical albums. Everyone should listen to them.
And they're so great playing live!! I've seen them twice and the first one, in a 600-800 people venue, is one of my fave gigs ever. And the voice of James Dean Bradfield is one of the best, he's amazing!!
The Manics rock!!!! :D :D :D

28-10-2003, 09:06 AM
great band. although have defied their own principles of music making..
"every band should make one album then quit" JDB but then they've made plenty of albums..not that i midn since i think pretty much all their albums are amazing
One hand is bleeding and the other hand holds a gun
While everything is open everything is shut down, down, down
Begin to ending is really just a go round and round and round
As I stand here - the ground beneath is nothing more than one point of view
::Hayley::
28-10-2003, 03:02 PM
yyyyyyyyyes forever delayed is one of my favourite albums....

HAIL TO THE PREACHERS!!! :D
They're wicked. My favourite tracks:
* If You Tolerate This...
* Tsunami
* You Stole The Sun From My Heart
Woooooooh, look at the second pic... it's so funny!!!
James is really slim in it (comparing with nowadays :P ) and Sean... he looks like a strange woman :stunned: :P

Manics rox !!! My fave songs used to be If you tolerate this and You stole the sun from my heart (i went dancing one day and this song started playing... couldn´t stop singing loud.. lol). But since I change my mind really fast, now it´s There by the grace of God.
Ooooooh, I'm thinking now in 'Australia'... what a great song!!
I wanna fly and run 'til it hurts, sleep for a while and speak no words... in Australia!! :D
badlydrawngirl
21-12-2003, 01:33 PM
:D glad to see some fans ;)
anyone like their earlier stuff as well. 'The Holy Bible' is sort of a dark album I think, but its SO brilliant, well worth a listen! :)
I have to admit that I only have Everything must go, This is my truth and Know your enemy... and a tape with some songs of their old albums.
I should get that old stuff... :dozey:

As for favorite track..I'd have to say so far it's Of Walking Abortion. But I'll have to use this thread as a means of gathering new songs. :D

I need to relisten to my MSP stuff. I heard their more recent releases aren't that good, though. True?
Yeeeah, it's also my opinion. I have 'Know your enemy' and I don't like it very much...
But 'Everything must go' and 'This is my truth tell me yours' are AWESOME!!
Go and listen to them now!! :D
rf_ucsd
28-12-2003, 08:51 PM
They're at work :( But those are the two I have and I like them well enough. I'm a little scared to try "Know Your Enemy" because of others have agreed with your assessment.
I've only heard it a few times, because I don't like it a lot...
Maybe I should hear it a bit more...
rf_ucsd
28-12-2003, 09:29 PM
But I trust you ... you're very open regarding music. You lilke a lot of different bands within this rock genre, so if you think it's not good odds are I probably won't like it either.
Well, who knows... Maybe it deserves a heard for you...

28-12-2003, 09:32 PM
I have about 20 albums that I have on my list ... I have that list of 2003's best albums that I'm trying to maintain (for my own slefish reasons) and I feel I need to listen to about 20 more albums that were released this year before I can be happy with my list.
In that case, let 'Know your enemy' for the next year... I think you won't miss anything...
By the way, I like your music/cinema reviews. Your writing is very good! :smug:

28-12-2003, 09:36 PM
Thanks, Vanessa. I'm going to try to start my own site by February ... music and mvoie reviews. Hopefully I can get a good emssageboard up and running there.
That's why I'm keeping these "best of 2003" lists ... those are going to be the first things I post on the site.
Wooah, a site... it sounds really cool!! Are you gonna make the dessign and everything?
badlydrawngirl
28-12-2003, 09:55 PM

i REALLY liked the old stuff that richey had a hand in writing (early albums, like 'generation terrorist' and 'the holy bible', in fact i was discussing this very topic (where richey is now) while i was a bit drunk with my mates last wednesday! lol one of my mates reckoned he was too clever to just commit suicide, it'd be the easy option, wherever richey is now, we can only hope he's happy :)
::Hayley::
25-03-2004, 03:22 PM

The gap that grows between our lives
The gap our parents never had
Stop those thoughts control your mind
Replace the things that you despise
Oh you're old I hear you say
It doesn't mean that I don't care
I don't believe in it anymore
Pathetic acts for a worthless cause
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
But now unforgiven the everlasting
Everlasting
The world is full of refugees
They're just like you and just like me
But as people we have a choice
To end the void with all its force
So don't forget or don't pretend
It's all the same now in the end
It was set in a different life
Destroys my days and haunts my nights?
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
But now unforgiving the everlasting
Everlasting
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
Now unforgiving, the everlasting
Everlasting
But now unforgiving, the everlasting
Everlasting
....

contrast those song lyrics with some of their older stuff lol QUITE a difference!
Images of perfection, suntan and napalm
Grenada - Haiti - Poland - Nicaragua
who shall we choose for out morality
I'm thinking right now of Hollywood tragedy
big mac: smack: phoenix r: please smile y'all
Cuba, Mexico can't cauterize our discipline
your idols speak so much of the abyss
yet your morals only run as deep as the surface
cool - groovey - morning - fine
Tipper Gore was a friend of mine
I love a free country
the stars and stripes and an apple for mommy
conservative say there ain't no black in the union jack
democrat say there ain't enough white in the stars and stripes
Compton - Harlem - a pimp fucked a priest
the white man has just found a new moral saviour
vital stats - how white was their skin
unimportant - just another inner-city drive-by thing
morning - fine - serve your first coffee of the day
real privilege, it will take your problems all away
number one - the best - no excuse from me
I am here to serve the moral majority
cool - groovey - morning - fine
Tipper Gore was a friend of mine
I love a free country
the stars and stripes and an apple for mommy
Zapruder the first to masturbate
the world's first taste of crucified grace
and we say there's not enough black in the union jack
and we say there's too much white in the stars and stripes
fuck the Brady bill
fuck the Brady bill
if God made man they say
Sam Colt made him equal
:stunned: richey and nicky wrote ALL the lyrics back then

i'm really excited about a new album...
do u think it's going to be much like the earlier stuff perhaps? i.e. angry/angrier?
i think it's going to be even more politically inspired after the events of recent years....

i hope so! because 'know your enemy' which is quite recent was more politically charged than their other recent albums i think, so i'm looking forward to what they have in store!

Culture sucks down words
Itemise loathing and feed yourself smiles
Organise your safe tribal war
Hurt maim kill and enslave the ghetto
Each day living out a lie
Life sold cheaply forever, ever, ever
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Life lies a slow suicide
Orthodox dreams and symbolic myths
From feudal serf to spender
This wonderful world of purchase power
Just like lungs sucking on air
Survival’s natural as sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
All we want from you are the kicks you’ve given us
All we want from you are the kicks you’ve given us
All we want from you are the kicks you’ve given us
All we want from you are the kicks you’ve given us
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Under neon loneliness motorcycle emptiness
Drive away and it’s the same
Everywhere death row, everyone’s a victim
Your joys are counterfeit
This happiness corrupt political shit
Living life like a comatose
Ego loaded and swallow, swallow, swallow

Here are the lyrics for A Design for Life... according to Homer Simpson!!
A BOTTLE OF DUFF
--------------------------------------
BEER GIVES ME POWER
THEN IT MAKES ME WANT TO PEE
WHAT PRICE NOW FOR AN ESCAPE FROM REALITY
I WISH I HAD A BOTTLE
RIGHT HERE IN MY DIRTY FACE TO MAKE ME DRUNK
SO I DON'T KNOW FROM WHERE I CAME
I DON'T TALK ABOUT LOVE I ONLY WANT TO GET DRUNK
AND I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SPEND
ON THE DRINK ON WHICH I DEPEND
A BOTTLE OF DUFF x4
I WISH I HAD A BOTTLE
RIGHT HERE IN MY DIRTY FACE TO MAKE ME DRUNK
SO THAT I DON'T KNOW FROM WHERE I CAME
I DON'T TALK ABOUT LOVE I ONLY WANT TO GET DRUNK
AND I ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SPEND
ON THE DRINK ON WHICH I DEPEND
A BOTTLE OF DUFF x4
I DON'T TALK ABOUT LOVE I ONLY WANT TO GET DRUNK
AND I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SPEND
ON THE DRINK ON WHICH I DEPEND
A BOTTLE OF DUFF x4
