Justine, will you ever cease to annoy me?

Anyway, to make it clearer, the topic was made when the white smoke left strong clue that they had a new pope. Now the bells are actually ringing, which is confirmation of it.

Im watching it live in Sky news, so dont bother posting any news items from 4 hours ago.

*Justine*

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:44 PM
Not sure how to spell it. Ratzinger?

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:45 PM
Yep I spelt it right yay me!

The Cardinal just elected Joseph Ratzinger as the new pope. Hes chosen the name 'Pope' Benedict, carrying on some tradition...

Now hes coming out.

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:48 PM

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:49 PM
Here he is!

Looks like a nice man. Hes 78 years old :o 2 years away from being unable to vote.

badlydrawngirl
19-04-2005, 05:50 PM
wow 78 years old....

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:53 PM
So hes delivering his speech...

"The cardinals have elected me as a simple humble worker of the lord
Im consoled by the fact that the lord knows how to act with sufficient instruments and most of all I trust in your prayers
something of the lord, trustworthy of his trust" hhaha hes going too fast.

Ok hes finished.... "Thank you."

Now hes going to give some blessing...

Yeah I think 78 is like WOAH too old.

Darlene_Ihnfsa
19-04-2005, 05:53 PM
yes. :) as some sites says it means the Catholic church will go on traditional style.. i mean more or less the same as John Paul II :idea2:

Reilly
19-04-2005, 05:55 PM
Yeah now hes doing his SNORE blessing part.

This guy looks really really old and unfit though. Will he even live for another decade?

They picked him because they didnt want another "great" pope. they just wanted a filler while John Paul's legacy builds, or something stupid like that.

and yeah, it was quick. it usually takes a week to elect a new pope

First off, thanks to Reilly for the play-by-play. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

When he came out to greet the crowd, Justine, I said the exact same thing! He did look cute!

And apparently, he's a super conservative guy who's said some really controversial things about homosexuality and abortion and stuff. Some people refer to him as a "bully"-type. Scary. But he looks cute.

And with regards to how fast he was elected, according to the news, he was always the front runner because he was very close to Pope John Paul.

I woke up to the news about the smoke. I thought it was so exciting. :)

i read this too.. but 'tradition' says that the name you choose as Pope usually is a dedication to the previous Pope who beared that name.. according to history, Benedict XV was not so strict on things as this cardinal is known to be.

I never said that he had to fill JPII shoes... its just that taking over the roll of a pope who was in place for 26 years is alot of pressure... the church as it is.. is going thru a tough time with scandals, and political views to bear... these are points on which the entire world will be watching to see how he makes these decisions... and how the church handles whatever comes next.

I think he'll do a fine job.. I'm intrested to see how Catholics will either embrace this Pope or search for the bad.

Search for the bad? (Haha by the way camille Im not picking on you :P) I think anyone who is a strong Catholic, even in these modern times, wouldn't even think of doing that in fact they probably wont even compare him to John Paul (At least not publicly).

We may satirise, some Catholics may do the same but the general following as whole wont even think of doing this.

lol I dont know how he is as a pope and what not. But just because he doesnt believe in same sex unions and gay rights doesnt mean he's a homophobe.. that would mean he is 'afraid' right?? but he is just preaching what the 'so called word of God' is... which for the record, I sooooooooooooo do not agree with. Like I've said before... I am a Catholic.. but I DO NOT agree with many of the church's ways. Its just as corrupt as any other 'organization' out there... that doesnt affect my faith in any way... I believe in God.. and this about it.

This is the teddy called "Pope Benedict XVi" made by Hermann-Spielware in Coburg (Germany). it's a limited edition of only 265, that is the number of Popes of the Catholic Chruch in History. This teddy cost 160€. :stunned:
