You can help me :D ...What are the notes for your left hand for Clocks? I got the right hand part down, But not the left.

shanecrofts
07-04-2005, 11:01 PM
you play on the left hand single notes, first is d# then c# then c not chords, try that if you have a problem i will try to explain it better

shanecrofts
07-04-2005, 11:25 PM
basically everytime you play the d# on your right hand in the first pattern you play the d# on the left hand so the note is doubled that goes for the second and third pattern, i really hope this does help

The bridge to Politik, I have it down but I don't think it's right. Btw, is that you who sings for coldplace? If so, you got a good voice. I listened to clocks.

oh, btw, did you change around the main riff on Clocks? It sounds slightly different from how I play it.

shanecrofts
08-04-2005, 11:01 AM
this is what i play for politik
left hand bass notes F C# G# D# D#
right hand notes (c f g#) ( c# f a#) ( d# g# c ) ( d# g# a#) (d# g a#)

then just repeat till the end hope this helps you out and thanks for the nice comments about clocks,
i have just realised that i have been playing a wrong note in clocks for ages its on the second riff it is ( c# a# f ) and not (c# g# f )

hey!
i'm also a piano-lover!
i just have a question: i once found on internet, and the link must be here somewhere, the coldplay notes for all the songs...so far no problem...but, when i play it with the cd (for example the scientist) it matchs with the singing but if i listen to the music it sounds awfully false, just if i were completely untuned, but my piano is tuned!!!!
so is chris playing on an untuned piano or what am i doing wrong?...

shanecrofts
09-04-2005, 11:47 PM
just wandering will you be able to find the link again or write the notes or chords that you are playing cos chris want be using an untuned piano and it will be easier for me to figure out were your going wrong if i know what notes your playing, sorry i cant be more of a help

clocks-politik
10-04-2005, 12:03 AM
yeah i listened to your clocks recording and it sounded a little off on some notes. I play the same thing with the left as i do in the right hand just in octaves.

shanecrofts
10-04-2005, 10:55 AM
yeah cant believe i didn't realise i was playing a wrong note but played along to the dvd last night and its right now but its good to know there is people here who want to help eachother out

so here's the link:

http://www.geocities.com/fizzy24121987/

it seems to be just a copy from the book...

but i didn't understanded if you sorted out what's wrong, because for me it sounds false on scientist, politik, clocks, amsterdam, well quite all the songs (it's always like half a tone or rather less thant that, cause the singing on it is ok...)

so thanks there if you can get it, because i'm searching since five months...

this is for inlovewithlondon sorry dont know your name
try this for the scientist first verse
left hand bass notes (d a ) (f a#) (f a) (f g)
right hand chords (c d f a) (d f a#) (c f a ) (c f g)
you will know then wether its the piano or book, this sounds correct when played to the scientist on AROBTTH, hope this helps you out.

i dunno but for me its sounding awfully false even if i doi your thing...

maybe its because im trying it on the keyboard in my room or maybe its something with the record or with my hifi....

i guesse its just 2 or 3 commas but that is axful for me...

sorry for beeing so annoying, maybe im just shit in piano (which i actually don't hope beacause it would have been ten years for nothing hehe....

shanecrofts
13-04-2005, 04:13 PM
if a record speed is not bang on 33.3333333......rpm then it will be out of key and also if you are playing to a tape which tapes can get stretched and sound out of key only very slight but noticable when playing along with an instument that is in tune. i suggest playing your tracks through a computer then you will know if its your hi fi or keyboard. dont worry you aint being a pain.

Actually, I think the almost the whole CD of AROBTTH is slightly below concert pitch, so if you try to play along on the piano it sounds terrible. Really annoying.

It's kinda strange they did it like that ... especially with moving between studios and all, they would have had to tune all the pianos down and reprogram the synths and stuff. Or maybe they finished it and tuned the whole thing down a teeny weeny bit for some myseterious reason. :o

A tad bit faster, I didn't have to up the pitch by much. But I'd rather play along with live versions because they're simply more action packed

Which reminds me please if you can, try and get someone to record one of your gigs (if I haven't asked already) and upload to your server, that would be rad. I'd like to hear you guys play, but I don't live in the UK and I don't intend on flying out...and I think your gigs will sound really good.

You're welcome. The names Oscar by the way. Ever since i heard the Scientist i taught myself how to play the piano... sort of. Anyways, since i don't have my own I don't get to practice it much, but whenever i get a chance to play one the Scientist is always the first thing i bust out. Now thanks to you i can expand my repetoir (sp??).

BTW, how did your gig go?

Cheers!

Hey Shane, or anyone else for that matter, I am interested in buying a piano (i doubt my parents will let me take my sisters after all :x ) So iguess my question is would it be better to buy an electronic piano or a real one. And what would be important features ( ) to look for when considering each?

Cabroncito
22-04-2005, 10:41 PM
Oh yeah I almost forgot... :idea2: On the scientist, i got the chords (from an earlier post :D ) but what is the timing. It is my understanding that your left hand is playing eighth notes and your right hand playing quarter notes.

Is this right?

shanecrofts
23-04-2005, 12:18 PM
buying a real piano would be great you know if you have the room and if your not thinking of going out and gigging with it yamaha and roland are very nice pianos but quite exspensive, if you buy an electric keyboard try get waited keys and also just make sure it's got a nice piano sound, at the moment i'm using a korg sp200 which is about the best sounding piano in its price range of £ 500 in my oppinion.
and yeah on the scientist your left is playing double the speed of your right hand wether that is what you meant before i dont know cos i dont really count beats :) hope this helps you out mate.

Cabroncito
23-04-2005, 04:22 PM
Shane you're awesome. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out on that. My price range for a real piano (which is just for me and not for gigging :D ) is under $300. It isn't that hard to find one at that price (thanks tot he wonder of Ebay :sneaky: )

As far as what you said about the keyboard, did you mean weighted keys, cause you kind of lost me for a bit. Call me a slow mexican, but could you explain that bit for me?

shanecrofts
23-04-2005, 07:14 PM
yeah weighted keys its like when you play some keyboards the keys feel light and are not touch sensitive you know, like when you press a key dosen't matter how hard, the sounds comes out at the same volume level so you get no feeling in how you want to play this is why you want weighted keys, they feel like proper piano keys, and you get more feeling :)

Eagle131
23-04-2005, 10:57 PM
Shane, have you ever heard of Baldwin pianos? I have one, it used to be my mom's until she passed away last year. Now I claimed it for myself :)

But yeah, is Baldwin a sucky brand? Is it one of those "standard" brands? Cause I don't think it sonds all too good, but that's probably because it hasn't been tuned for 7 years...lol.

shanecrofts
24-04-2005, 11:38 PM
i,m very sorry to hear of your loss mate, but as for the make of the piano i cant say i have ever heard of them and maybe the tuning could have something to do with it :) iv'e just asked somebody else and they have just told me that they have heard of the make baldwin so that could be a good thing right.

If I recall correctly, Baldwin's a good brand... I think we don't hear about it too often precisely because it's expensive compared to lets say a Yamaha or a Petrof etc. Of course it's probably no Steinway Grand either :P

When you made the recordings of Clocks and the other samples on your site, how did you go about recording? I noticed too that your voice was a bit off key sometimes, but I know it's hard to play and sing along with the piano at the same time. If I may, the next recording you make, you should record the drums, the guitar, vocals, piano and bass as all different tracks and mix them together. Yeah, it'll take some time but that's usually the best way to do it.

Cabroncito
26-04-2005, 10:00 PM
Oh definatley (to both things). Sometimes when i am playing if i try to sing at the same time, disaster strikes :o
But also, even though it may take longer, breaking up the recording into a few sessions (though it will take longer) will probably come out better in the end.

Though i am sure that you already knew that. :D

27-04-2005, 09:47 AM
We did multi-track the recordings (pro tools). We laid the drum tracks down first, but without a metronome, just with everyone else playing along. I did a few other tracks for another band a few weeks later and used a metronome for them and found it much easier, so next time Coldplace record, i'm gonna use a metronome.

We'd only been together about four months or so when we did the demos and we've been together another full year now and so we're really wanting to record some more tracks coz we know we can do far better than the recordings we've done so far. Not that we're unhappy with the three tracks we've already done - we just know we can do better. I know that I, personally, could list a handful of inaccuracies with my drum tracks (crashes missing at the end of clocks, superfluous crashes in the scientist etc). Anyway, thanks to everyone for the positive comments about our demos - it's very pleasing :)

Cabroncito
27-04-2005, 07:03 PM

(F C G#) (F C G) (F C F) (F C D#) (F C) (F G# C) (F G C) (F) this is the last chord, your middle f is the highest note working down it is (F C F F).

Hey shane, it has been a while. Nah, she wont let me go near it. I did have the chance to play on a keyboard that has waited keys on it. It was really nice. I finally got the Scientist figured out. I am so happy about it. :D

Just remember guys, it{s all about diversity. Also, even though you aren{t spectacular at a certain instrument (Bass, drums, piano etc) gettin to know each one lets you think a little more like the people that actually play them. It sure as hell helps out whe trying to get some musical cohesion going on. If you can think like the rest of your band, it makes your sound mesh that much better.

Just listened to some of your work @ Coldplace. Just a quick note, the second arpegio-like sequence of clocks, you're playing the wrong set of notes. It should be c#, a# and f :)
so its c# a# f
not c# a# g ????
if that's true, then i've been playing it wrong this whole time!

shanecrofts

these are the notes ( D# A# G ) (C# A# F )x2 (C A# F ) i think thats right :)

I'm going to record myself playing the piano of Amsterdam (in my own slight variations from the music I learned)

Once I'm done, I would appreciate anyone telling me what sounds incorrect. ;)

NOTE: I try to make it sound as much like the album as possible, though the album version is tuned down a quarter-step or so.

Here's the best I could do XD I gave up on the "variations" for the most part because I made too many mistakes with them, so I just ran through it. (I hope that wasn't the thing you were hoping was cool :P)

http://www.clan-svl.com/Amsterpiano.mp3

I was kinda nervous, the keys were getting slippery.

After that I attempted to record myself playing Moonlight Sonata, but I couldn't make it through the whole thing without a slight mistake.

EDIT: I'm playing it a little fast.. not too much, but it's noticable.

It's very nice - you're tallented :) Did you play with official notes or your own? I think there are something wrong, where chris sings 'stuck on the end of this ball and chain...' but it sounds really like Amsterdam :))) Good thing to sing ;)

Most of them came from music. I improvised the whole ending part because the music I had didn't seem forceful enough.

how do u record urself on the piano?

Get my laptop, open recording software, take my headset and put it on top of the piano with the top open, hit record and play away.
