Ok..I didn't take this shot but I just couldn't stop drooling when I saw it.. It's from a Copenhagen show during the Elevation tour..It was so hot in there that nite that Bono actually ripped his shirt off!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could of been there for that!!! OH MY LORD!

What I love the most is when the sun starts to rise, your ass starts to slowly fall off from the cold, and the local bussinessmen are sauntering by with their Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts in their hands. Giving you those weird "Oh no, they are sooooo weird" looks. Where they're actually the weird ones, going to work while I'll be seeing U2 front row later that day.

no only a rare few are made by EDUN. This tour there was at least one tour tshirt that was made by EDUN. Not sure if there were any more.

It seems to be with the people who have ordered so far that if you ordered a Small or Medium the shirt is made by American Apparel. If it is a Large, XL or 2XL it is made by EDUN. Not sure why they did it this way...:\

Hasn't been that much going on in the U2 world lately, but I did stumble across the official video for the U2/Mary J. Blige video for 'One' today.

See it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EMBbY_ZAIIk

Here's what I wrote about it in my personal journal:

I still don't know how I feel about this.

I'm kind of sick of this song being bastardized to DEATH. If I have one beef with U2 it's for them to stop the obsession with 'One' and never do another compilation with any of their songs again. Unless it's with someone I like and hand pick.

Seriously, though. 'One' isn't an angry song. I don't like all the yelling Mary J. Blige does. And I wasn't too big on it during the Hurricane Relief/Grammy shows. All I wanted was U2. Alone.

The guys look good though, from the shadows you can see of them... Whatever. Nothing beats a buffalo running and sunflowers. That should have been it, U2!!! :(

^Indeed, they are!

I've been studying the Troubles in Ireland recently, and have been listening to a lot of U2's songs with a fresher, more enlightened, point of view.

I especially listened to the song 'Please' now, and can really see where B's coming from in it.

I came across this interesting, short analysis from www.atu2.com:

"Please"

So you never knew love
Until you crossed the line of grace
And you never felt wanted
Till you had someone slap your face
So you never felt alive
Until you almost wasted away

You had to win, you couldn't just pass
The smartest ass at the top of the class
Your flying colours, your family tree
And all your lessons in history

Please, please, please
Get up off your knees
Please, please, please
Please

So you never knew how low you'd stoop
To make that call
And you never knew what was on the ground
Until they made you crawl
So you never knew that the heaven you keep
You stole

Your Catholic blues, your convent shoes
Your stick-on tattoos, now they're making the news
Your holy war, your northern star
Your sermon on the mount from the boot of your car

Please, please, please
Get up off your knees
Please, please
Leave me out of this mess

So love is hard and love is tough
But love is not what you're thinking of
September, streets capsizing
Spilling over, down the drain
Shards of glass, splinters like rain
But you could only feel your own pain
October, talk getting nowhere
November, December
Remember, are we just starting again

Please, please, please
Get up off your knees
Please, please, please
Please
So love is big, it's bigger than us
But love is not what you're thinking of
It's what lovers deal, it's what lovers steal
You know I found it hard to recieve
'Cause you, my love, I could never believe

Ian's take on Please:

I really don't know where to start with this tune. This is one of the most emotionally charged, complicated, incredible songs the band has ever done. It is the '90s answer to Sunday Bloody Sunday, and I think that these two songs, more than any others, can be used to demonstrate the change in the band's attitudes between the two decades. For me, the band's album careers are defined by each decadee. The '80s U2 was about the external. Bono wrote lyrics about what he saw, what the world was around him. The '90s U2 was about the internal. Bono wrote about about his internal emotions, how his feelings and perceptions affected the world around him. The '00s U2 seems to be an adept blending of the two. Sunday Bloody Sunday was all about the conflicts. It was sung in for everyone who was frustrated with the conflicts in Ireland. Please, on the other hand, is about Bono's own feelings. It's about the rage and confusion Bono has. He's not yelling out for everyone to hear, he sings most of the song barely above a whisper. The song is about his views and his attitudes towards all the crap. He's telling someone else what his views are, not giving voice to everyone's views.
If you've had a chance to hear multiple versions of the song, each latter version seems to get less and less claustrophobic. The initial demos feel extremely contained, boxed in. The album track isn't quite as enclosed, but it still is very tight. The single version feels a bit more spacious, though not by much. The Popmart live tracks sounded bigger, with Bono's crying out at the end. The Elevation accoustic versions sounded more accepting of others to listening to it, like it was welcoming everyone to listen while Bono was still talking about his most personal ideas. It's like the more he told the story, the more he repeated his ideas, the more comfortable he was with people listening.

I've never noticed how ANGRY the 'Pop' album is..... I can't believe so many people disregard this as a "failure" on U2's behalf. Anyone who says that hasn't spent any time to listen to it in it's entirity.... It's very, very deep. Each time I put it on I'm blown away by it. I think I could even debate that the content on 'Pop' hasn't been matched yet by any of U2's recent albums.

Denise
27-03-2006, 10:42 AM
You're so right..funny is that me and many other u2 fans of my age I know started to really like them with this album..anyway I can undertsand that some of the "old" fans were not soo happy with it, but that's probably almost the same thing that happened with Achtung Baby.

beckhamcrosses
27-03-2006, 11:00 AM
I think Pop was one of their weakest albums. . not just because the sales are the weakest of any U2 Album, but the whole thing was so rushed, they had to meet the start of the Pop tour obligation, re record so much of it after Larry Mullens back surgery, the vocals to "Last Night On Earth" were reportedly recorded at the mixing desk the day the album was to be sent for pressing........look at the amount of remixes and edit versons released.......I think it a very dark album, quite eclectic (sorry about the spelling), by eclectic I mean there were songs from Zooropa sessions, songs with and without Larry, sessions in Miami, France, Dublin. . . . anyway I dont know about angry....... there are still some great songs on that album. . . . I put it back on my stereo for the first time in years, and really enjoyed listening to the album.. probably the first time since the Popmart tour to be honest......

Anyway, Bono (PBUH) apparently said...that U2 were disappointed with their 1997 album "POP". - (insert cut and paste here!)

Bono told the Chicago Tribune: "There is still talk about the band going back in and fixing "Pop", actually going in because the bones of a great album are there."

"It didn't communicate the way it was intended to. It became a niche record. That's not what it was intended to be. If we'd just had another month, we could have finished it."

The frontman blamed the end results of the pressure of hitting a deadline determined by the start date of their Popmart world tour.

He added: " We let the manager book the tour, known in this camp as the worst decision U2 ever made, and we had to wrap up the album sooner than we wanted."

"There were great ideas on that album [but] we didn't have the discipline to screw the thing down

....In a long, wide-ranging interview with a Chicago writer, U2's Bono has offered justifications for releasing songs for iPod commercials, said Pop was a bad album, and defends the band against the 'sell-out' criticism..........

beckhamcrosses, I agree. Technically, it is not U2's best. Commercially, it is not U2's best. Critically, it is not recieved well.

However, content-wise, I find it amazing. I absolutely love 'Wake Up Dead Man'. How it's almost Bono disregarding Jesus, questioning him. It's very angry. Full of semi-raw emotion. Maybe this does have to do with the rushing of many of the tracks. In a way, I like that. I know I shouldn't bring them into it, but I actually think that Coldplay should do something like this. Not schedule a tour before an album's ready or anything. But do a very raw, quick, album. 'Zooropa' like.

If there's any album I wish U2 could go back to and work on more, then rerelease, it'd be 'Pop' hands down. Lyrically, though, leave it how it is!

Yeah, I am not a fan of ticket scalpers, but if it wasn't for them I would have missed out on a few shows (Sting at the Royal Albert Hall in 96 for example 4th row from the front!)

Denise
29-03-2006, 10:52 AM
You know what..I think I would have missed the show, the problem is that here we have a sort of "professional" scalpers, people who are given blocks of tickets by the agency responsible to sell them...and this is not fair. I can buy a ticket from someone who have bought some more to resell them, or maybe because he/she bought them for friends and they couldn't come, but when I see these people with all these tickets and on the other side real fans who tried everything to buy them and didn't succeed, well that's when I get angry. There are people who can't afford to spend hundreds dollars or euros or whatever currency, and as the price of tickets is high (at least for U2) scalpers usually ask for at least twice the real price if not more (I saw GA tickets for the Milan shows I've been to being sold at more than 200€, which is almost 4 times the original price).

beckhamcrosses
30-03-2006, 12:53 AM
There was a bit of a hoo ha in NZ when the tickets went on sale, from the ticketscheister I mean ticketmaster webste crapping it's self, the phone lines over loaded, and people (like me) who queued over night found tickets sold out in just over an hour.... then tickets started appearing on an online auction site within two hours..... $99 GA tickets going for $500 + I managed to get a pair for $450 and another pair for $500, so I could swap for the other show. . . but it was a crazy time, they had no limits, so people could buy 12 tickets a time....... I managed to get my Aussie tickets at face value. . . . . . . which was a blessing, and some cheap airfares to OZ as well. . . . . . I can't wait for Coldplay in June!!

ok..this show is in mp3 format. You have to download each song one at a time but it is easier than a torrent site.

First...
the link is here: http://www.savefile.com/projects/964508

Second,
to access the songs for download you have to enter a password (the window for this is in the middle toward the bottom of the page): Elevation

PM me if you have any problems or questions.

If you are familiar with torrents and how to download them then u2torrents.com is a great site to find shows from early on to current.

Let me know how it goes...

Well, today has been a kind of insane day for me in the U2 fan world.

First off, this morning I found out that Adam is possibly (most likely) engaged to his long time girlfriend.

Sunday Independent - Sunday, April 9th

IT'S OFFICIAL. Adam Clayton has found what he's looking for. The U2 bassist has just got engaged to long-term girlfriend Susi Smith.

The dapper musician and the Canadian beauty announced their engagement to friends at a private party recently. My Deep Throat at the soiree told me that everyone was sworn to secrecy on pain of immediate exile. Well, there you go . . .

Adam and Susi looked more in love than usual when I saw them in January at the launch of a new fragrance by the Missoni fashion label in the Italian ambassador's stately residence in Grosvenor Square, London. I now know why.

The Oxfordshire-born Clayton has been of course the most colourful member of the world's biggest band for years. I love the entertaining but entirely apocryphal story about how at the time of his arrest for possession of marijuana, the guards found him sitting serenely stoned in the boot of his car up in the mountains. Though rock n' roll fairytale, it does show that Clayton is widely regarded as the epitome of cool. Cooler still, Adam was engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell in 1993.

Naturally, Adam is older and wiser and sober-er (he hasn't touched a drink since he missed a U2 show in Australia on November 26, 1993 - a consequence of his break-up with Naomi, some say.) Indeed Susi and Adam are the ultimate zen couple. They were on holiday in Malaysia when the tragic tsunami hit the countries off the coast of the Indian Ocean.

Source: PLEBA at www.interference.com

If this is true, congrats all around!!! What wonderful news! :) It's about time Adam settles down and has found someone good enough for him.

And secondly:

http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/5294/bonoshorthair3zu.jpg

:stunned:

Bono cut his fookin' hair!!!! I think he looks REALLY good with it like this, definately makes him look younger.... And as someone with an extreme POP fetish, this is a very welcome change. Very. Very. Very welcome. Hmmm... dare I ask for a Discotheque Part II on the next album....? ha, just joking.

Congratulations!
We can confirm the rumour that Adam Clayton is engaged to Canadian girlfriend, Susie Smith. The couple, who have been together for 10 years, are due to marry next year.

From www.interference.com:

EBAY U2 PHOTO AUCTION TO BENEFIT AFRICAN WELL FUND

Ed. Note -- Our friends at the AWF have passed on the following press release. Great job ladies, and best wishes on the auction!

Schenectady, NY – April 12, 2006 – The African Well Fund is excited to announce a benefit photo auction entitled PHOTOS4 // BBW4. Beginning April 17th, U2 fans will have the opportunity to bid on U2 concert photos donated by some very talented U2 fan photographers. The auction runs through April 24th and all proceeds will be donated to the 4th Annual Build a Well for Bono’s Birthday fundraising drive.

The participating photographers are well known in the U2 fan community for their outstanding work. Ten photographers have donated over 90 photos for the auction. The prints available include concert shots from ZooTV through Vertigo. The prints range in size from 4 x 6 to 20 x 30. Beginning 9:00 a.m. EST on April 17th all photos available for bid may be viewed on African Well Fund’s MissionFish auction page. Visit our website for the direct link. The auction ends on Monday April 24th at 9:00 a.m. EST.

All the participating photographers donated the prints for the auction, enabling 100% of the winning auction bids to go directly to the Bono Birthday Well Fundraising drive. This year marks the 4th time that African Well Fund has asked the U2 fan community to donate in honor of Bono’s Birthday. Donations from the previous 3 fundraisers totaled more than $50,000 and were used to fund water projects in Uganda, Ethiopia and Angola. This year the funds raised will be used for a project in Zimbabwe. Donations may be made by visiting our website at www.africanwellfund.org/donate.html .

The African Well Fund is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2002 by a group of U2 fans. Since that time, AWF has raised more than $145,000, which has been used to fund more than 40 clean water projects in sub-Saharan Africa. All donations to the African Well Fund go directly to Africare, one of the leading private, non-profit, charitable organizations assisting Africa. The African Well Fund was founded to focus on one achievable goal: providing access to clean water to everyone in Africa. The African Well Fund believes that access to water is not merely a basic human need but a basic human right.

Chernobyl Convoy a "Lifeline from Ireland"

By Eoin English

VOLUNTEERS were yesterday packing trucks and ambulances with over €3 million worth of humanitarian aid that is bound for Belarus this weekend.

The 42-vehicle Chernobyl Children’s Project convoy, which includes 27 fully-equipped ambulances and 15 articulated trucks, will stretch three kilometres when it leaves Midleton, Co Cork, on Sunday.

Up to 90 aid workers will deliver aid to orphanages and hospitals across a 1,600km region in Belarus over the next 10 days.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Chernobyl Children’s Project director Adi Roche described the convoy as a lifeline from Ireland.

“What they carry is the hope and dreams and real practical love of the people of Ireland to the people of Belarus,” she said.

The convoy is being dedicated this year to the memory of a Belarussian child, Veronik Charlai, aged 12, who died a few months ago from cancer.

Ms Roche and Ali Hewson, Bono’s wife, will fly out next week to join the convoy. They will present a special ambulance to the Red Cross to be used as a mobile thyroid monitoring unit that hopes to screen up to 500,000 people this year.

Whoa, great! Thanks!:)

Guess what you guys, I might be staying in the Clarence for a few days this summer! My dad's got points that he can use to take a lot of money off the cost, and I'm really pushing him to have us stay there!!!! Soooo awesome.

I don't know, LOL! I only stood outside it the last time I went to Ireland. I think it's really expensive, so my dad will probably say no. I need to go find the website and see what it looks like on the inside (I'm thinking bedposts signed by Bono... Edge.... Larry... LOL!!!)

Yup, sure am! Was it really expensive when you stayed? I'm probably only going to be there four or five nights (depending), and my dad's got a discount. But... without that I just can't seem to find a typical price....

yeah it was expensive but I sweetalked my hubby into it and he didn't regret it.. Wonderful rooms, awesome beds, egyptian cotton sheets were so soft. Great food, especially their breakfasts. Cool bar, Octogon Bar.. It's a good thing you have your dad's discount.. The rate at that time was $420 dollars a night. We only stayed there 2 nights.

when are you going to ireland??

Yikes, that is expensive. The discount should be very helpful....!! It sounds like a lovely hotel, and the pictures I've seen online make it look beautiful! Of course, I don't expect anything left of the guys to have made the place so lovely.... heh

Well, we're still working on the departure and return dates, but probably leaving July 3rd, staying in Dublin for about 4 days, then I'm going to the Oxegen Festival until July 9th (which is my 18th birthday).

that was cool because bono arrived to the place at 12 and I was there like at 9 and there's no people... and well... when bono arrived there was a lot of people but I was in the perfect place ... just a policeman between my and bono :(

The police are asswipes, aren't they? Grrrrrr!!!!

Back in December, in Boston, I waited outside the back entrance with like 30 other people for four frickin' hours. It started to snow really heavy and get dark... The temp dropped to probably 15 degrees, not counting the wind chill... :stunned: They started putting baracades up, which I knew meant that the guys weren't going to be gracing us with their physical appearance, the cars were just going to drive by...... Well, two cops came out, one in full winter attire, and the other with just his little short sleeved cop shirt on. And he was drinking steaming hot coffee. Which he then proceeded to spill on himself and put in the snow to "cool it down". Everybody was yelling at him like "HEY. I'VE BEEN HERE FIVE HOURS. GIVE ME THAT." I called him "Little Napolean" because he looked so self important but he was this tiny little guy... LMFAO! It was so much fun.

Needless to say, the guys didn't come out, but the SUV with Bono in it slowed right down until it was RIGHT next to me (and I mean literally 4 inches away, I was right against the baracade) and guess who pokes his head out the window? Bono. WITHOUT his shades, I might add! Right there, 5 inches from me! And he smiled right at me and was all "Sorry guys, we're really late for sound check because of the weather, really really sorry!" and he smiled at me again (seriously, eye contact happened, probably because I looked like I was going to die) and we all wished him good luck with the show, he said he'd see us soon (what a sweetie :nice: ) and away they drove.

Ahahaha. What a bust. My poor dad was with me the whole time, freezing his arse off.... But I wasn't disapointed at all. Getting Bono to look at you, TWICE??? Accomplishment!

MrMagpie
26-04-2006, 08:04 PM
Hahah lucky you...good story.

Hopefully I make eye contact with him someday.

an_cat
26-04-2006, 08:08 PM
Well it's always a gamble, but I always suggest to everyone who's going to a U2 show to find the back entrance to the arena and hang out around there. No matter how many people there are (and USUALLY no matter what the weather is) they'll turn up somehow. Blah, they really WERE late for soundcheck with us though. It was 6:15pm and they were just showing up!!!! Hmph. Bono probably lost his cowboy hat or something LMFAO!

And to get eye contact, just look like you're going to pass out at any second. Or get right on the rail with GA and shriek at the top of your lungs when he's right in front of you. Of course, it has the risk of coming across as a complete idiot while doing it.... but worth it!

Denise
26-04-2006, 09:20 PM
The problem is...maybe it's easier to stand at the back entrance in USA arenas..but it's almost impossible here in stadiums at least if you want to be on the front rows in the GA. I had to sleep outside and some people were able to see them just waiting for them outside the hotel the day after ;)

26-04-2006, 09:59 PM
Well the great thing with the Garden in Boston is they numbered everyone in line, so you didn't have to stay outside all day, you could leave, blah blah. As long as you were back in line by 5:30, by NUMBER (you get kicked to the very very back if you cut! omg someone cut me and I didn't notice in October, and luckily someone else did and saved my life :nice: ). So a lot of the GA-ers just get numbers, go get breakfast, get lunch, then stand outside.... LMFAO! At least that's what I did.

MrMagpie
26-04-2006, 10:02 PM
I wish I had GA tix but I'm happy with what I got. I wish it wasn't raining the whole time i was in Boston though.

I've got a strong chance of ending up going to school and living in New York City after next year, which means that's where I'll be for their next tour... (Yes. I am already making plans.) And apparently at MSG there's no numbered wristband thing... blah. That's not gonna be fun. Oh well!

Urgh, I wish they'd make it to your part of the world more... It's seriously not fair how they're always here in the US and in Europe..... And even then, only certain parts of Europe... As much as I'd like to keep them forever, I want everyone else in the whole world to see them too!

Next tour, if they aren't coming around (or haven't announced it yet) and I "run into" Bono or one of the guys on show day, I'll tell them they better or... They'll have to take me on tour with them!

Bono hopeful about 'breakthrough' in Sudanese peace

Associated Press

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Rock star and activist Bono expressed hope Thursday that a peace agreement could be coming for the Sudanese region of Darfur.

"We just got news on this very day that there's a potential breakthrough," Bono said during a speech to the Economic Club of Grand Rapids. "I ask you to pray for their success."

Decades of tribal clashes over land and water in Darfur erupted into large-scale violence in early 2003, with rebels demanding regional autonomy. The central government is accused of responding by unleashing militias upon civilians, a charge that Sudan denies.

At least 180,000 people have been killed and more than 2 million have been forced to flee their homes in what the United Nations has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Sudanese rebels cautiously welcomed U.S.-backed proposals to salvage a peace agreement for Darfur on Thursday. The international community urged them to finally accept the deal.

About 2,000 people attended the sold-out annual dinner, which was open only to club members and their guests. Tickets cost $150 each. Past speakers include former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

At first I was all "Ok. This is alright, I'll live with it" (the first time I heard it was at the Hurricane Relief show). At the time, I was upset about the way Katrina had been handled, and I felt her anger. I thought it was appropriate in the context, and I related to it.

HOWEVER, then I found out that it was actually going to be RECORDED and become a single!?!? I freaked out. I was alright with her screaming the lyrics ONCE, under the circumstances, but not for people who have never heard the original to listen to.

Firstly, i love U2. They've got class, a great sound, great music and a great singer. Radiohead have none of these. They are......SHIT.

Secondly, despite my love for U2, i think the Sweetest thing is a piece of moaning, despicable shite. It's pathetic drivle. I'm glad Stipe would never do something like that.

You've picked Bono. Fine. But judging by the fact that you've picked him because of the Sweetest thing just shows how usically ignorant you are. Fool.

I chose the sweetest thing to show, that I find Stipe a bit boring.
Radiohead are one of the best groups. It's pathetic to use arguments like: "They've got class, a great sound, great music and a great singer. Radiohead have none of these."

I don't know whether you're aware of the fact that 'ok computer' was/is called the best album ever. But how? They don't have class, they don't have sound, they don't do great music and finally they don't have great singer. Instead of buzzes like a fridge go and listen to some Radiohead tunes.

My point is simple. Radiohead fans claim that they're one of the biggest bands in the world. If this is true, they should have at least 5 songs that people recognise all over the world. I doubt they even have one. Ask someone in Beijing to hum a Radiohead song......they won't be able to do it.
Ask them to do the same with rem, they will(granted, it may be shiny happy people, but they'll still know it) Same with U2. Radiohead never have been, aren;'t and never will be, the biggest band on earth.

Spice Girls more famous than Radiohead around the world?....Does that tell you something?! Okay....i won't go that far. But Radiohead are still hugely.....huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugely over-rated.

Don't be such a patronising prick! Firstly, you have no idea what age I am, and i seriously doubt you're much older than me. I've listened to Kid A and if you're seriously trying to back your argument up on that album then please, go get some taste!

The bands and acts that i like are legends that have classic albums that evryone knows about....everyone! America, Australia, Beijing....wherever!

R.E.M.- Automatin For The Peopl
U2- Joshua Tree
Bruce Springsteen- Born In The USA
Beatles- White Album
Eagles- Hotel California.

Don't even think of comparing Kid A to those albums and similarly, don't even think of comparing Thom Yorke to Michael Stipe, Bono, The Boss, Lennon, McCartney, etc. He's nowhere near!

First of all, I've never compared Thom to Lennon or McCartney.

Second, if the band is famous, it doesn't mean it's good for everybody.

And I love old bands by myself. Like Kinks, Zombies, Beatles, Animals, Moody Blues etc.

But I can't say that Thom is not talented and that RH albums are crap. This band is wonderfull, Thom's lyrics are great and if you don't like him-that's your problem, but don't talk to all RH fans like they are silly and don't aprecciate music.

wow, you've written new definiton of a big band. 5 songs? Maybe 6, c'mon!

All in all, I'm not saying that Radiohead are better than everyone else.

fin, the end, finito, koniec.
