an_cat I wanted to ask him one more question but I think it's better to leave that thread die...I see the only reason it's still alive is because we U2-lovers write there
And well of course after the show you're going to see we want a detailed description from you...I've just read something by people who went to New York *envy, envy, bad thing*...well I hope one day I'll be able to see them in the USA, I think it would be a completely different atmosphere compared to European stadiums  much closer to them

I like some songs by u2, but goddamn, they're one of the most overrated bands of all time.

Thanks an_cat for telling me what's going on. I 'visited' his hate thread yesterday, thought of asking him a question but decided (like you iriden) that it's better to leave it to die
It's weird actually, how someone who loves Coldplay so much can actually hate U2 that much at the same time... I mean it's so  They're quite alike in so many ways, and the things that're good about Coldplay can be found in U2 as well. To me it's like you can't like one band without liking the other (well, ok maybe u could not like Coldplay coz they came later than U2 and arguably possibly copied them, but I pretty much thought it was impossible the other way round )

I can't understand how people can hate U2.... It's really weird to me. I mean, this band feels like my life force sometimes and to think that people hate it so much... I can't help but feel personally insulted! People who decide that U2 is overrated, or sucks, or is the antichrist, are simply fools. They haven't listened with both ears and hearts open. And that's my say in it.
iriden, oh don't worry! You'll get EVERY last detail! Plus pictures! My seats are front row right behind the stage (the demented pervert in me is definately making this smiley face: :wink3: ). I'M SO EXCITED! I can't believe I'll be seeing them Wednesday as well! I know I'll never be as close as I was in October (front row GA can't be beat), but I'm sure it'll be great on a completely different level.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
I'm going up early to hang around the loading docks to see them come in, everybody cross your fingers for me that they come out in the frigid 37 degree New England weather!!! I need to say something to Bono, I so wanted to say "Thank you for your work for Africa and the One campaign, Bono." back in October, but I froze up. I wont do that this time. And if they're too afraid to freeze their Irish bums off with us seasoned Bostonians, then well... Maybe in Hartford...

Bono's speech from the podcast (and YES. I did type this all up myself, and it took me a long time. Not like I'm complaining or anything, but my fingers hurt!):
"Equality for Africa. That's a big, expensive idea. You see, the scale of the suffering numbs us into a kind of indifference. What on earth can we all do about this? Well, much more than we think. We can't fix every problem, but the ones we can I want to argue we must. And because we can, we must. This is the straight truth, the righteous truth. It is not a theory. The fact is that ours is the first generation that can look disease and extreme poverty in the eye. Look across the ocean to Africa and say this and mean it. We do not have to stand for this. A whole continent written off. We do not have to stand for this. Last year, at DATA, this organization I help set up, we launched a campaign to summon this spirit in the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty. We're calling it the One Campaign. It's based on our belief that the actions of one person can change a lot. But the actions of many, coming together as one, can change the world. Well, we feel that now is the time to prove we're right. There are moments in history when civilization redefines itself. We believe this is one. We believe that this could be the time when the world finally decides that the want and loss of life in Africa is just no longer acceptable. This could be the time that we finally get serious about changing the future, for most people, who live on planet Earth. A lot of people are getting together and working under this umbrella I told you about earlier, the One Campaign. I think they just have one idea in their mind, which is: Where you live in the world, should not determine whether you live in the world. History, like God, is watching what we do. When the history books get written I think our age will be remembered for three things. Really it's just three things that this whole age will be remember for. The digital revolution, yes. The war against terror, yes. And what we did, or did not do, to put out the fires in Africa. Some say we can't afford to. I say, we can't afford not to. Thank you."

I love Bono's speeches, he can really touch people hearts, and even if he will obtain just a little part of what he's asking it's a victory in any case :)
Good to know that everyone here will be as much close as I was to see them, it's really a lifetime experience to have Bono singing "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" almost crying just 2 metres away, and also listening him singing in italian during "Miss Sarajevo", and everyone in the stadium following him in chorus  I love that man, and I love this band

 Bono's speeches inspire me. I am very interested in humanitarian work, in my future. Bono's talk of Africa (and not just that continent, but MANY third world and developing countries) has sparked something in me. If I had never listened to this man speak... I don't like to think of what I would be today. And that scares me. He's made me a better person, that I know for sure. (I desperately want to tell him this on Sunday or Wednesday.... I hope I can!)
Duuuuuuude... I KNOW! Bono stood and stared RIGHT in my general direction for the entire first minute and a half of the song (I swear he was looking right at me at one point, and I could see his eyes since he took off the damn sunglasses for once). It was the most intimate, wonderful and elevating experience of my life. I can't listen to that song the same anymore. Same with Miss Sarajevo. I can't even listen to that recorded, it chokes me up so much. Let alone live!!! Beautiful....

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. I still can't get over it.
lmfao I waited out in the freezing cold, whilst it snowed, for 3 and a half hours for Bono and the guys to come out.... Bust. They drove by us all and Bono rolled his window down RIGHT NEXT TO ME, stuck his head out (I could have grabbed him ooooooooooooh) and said "Sorry guys, late for soundcheck, we gotta go!" waved, smiled and friggin' drove up the ramp and away.
Not too much of a bust, I still got Bono to smile at me again. I must have looked pathetic.
Wow. I can't even BEGIN to describe the concert. :stunned: I really AM stunned. They played all the songs I wanted to hear. Bad. MYSTERIOUS WAYS (fucking LOVE that song). Until The End Of The World. FAST CARS! I Will Follow. Original Of The Species. All ones I hadn't heard all tour up until now. Incredible.
Position wise, nothing can ever beat my front row against the rail in October. But as for a set list, this completely kicked every show's ass.
I took tons of videos (not too many pictures because they all looked the same after awhile, I was behind them afterall and back's don't really change). I'll be uploading them onto my putfile acount later this afternoon.
Wow. :o I'm still in shock. I don't know how they can top this Wednesday. I really don't....

Mildred, OOTS makes me cry as well. I almost lost it last night, I was screaming my heart out to it. And Edge played the piano right in front of me for the entire performance. Just magical...
U2 really is the best live show I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few performances this year. Coldplay just has a long way to go before they reach that height, no offense to them or their music (which obviously is equally important to me as U2's is). Just... wow.
labell, you sent good Karma to me, and it worked. I'll send ALL my good karma to you now that you can hopefully get tickets. *crosses fingers*
(they better not play anything crazy tonight, or I'll be so upset  I swear if they play anything from Pop I'll SERIOUSLY have a solitary riot in my room! :P )
(they better not play anything crazy tonight, or I'll be so upset  I swear if they play anything from Pop I'll SERIOUSLY have a solitary riot in my room! :P )
what, did you expect a fourth encore for Pop or something?!?!
Meh, I'm just moody because o'er here in Europe, I went to the two shows within reach and my Vertigo to Bad ratio is 4:0. Still, no bad memories, its just a pity I'm not going to get a chance to see Bad, Until The End Of The World, Discotheque, Fast Cars, Original Of The Species or Miss Sarajevo (although I did get Running To Stand Still, my personal favourite U2 song ever).
What sort of times did you arrive at the Arena and in what sort of temperatures? To say I'm British, we got lucky with the weather really, only those stupid enough to get there before 9 (ie: me) got really heavy rain.
an_cat
06-12-2005, 03:41 AM
I really wanted to hear something from Pop. Badly. I'm completely happy with what I got, though. It would have been so crazy if they left after Fast Cars then went "Oh no, psych, guess what? Let's play Discotheque and... dun dun dun MOFO!"  :P
Oh geez, I arrived at around 2:15pm with my dad, and it was around 30 degrees (farenheit, over here in America). It wasn't snowing at that point and that's when we decided to head over to the entrance ramp that they arrive at. The temp dropped as time went by and it started to snow..... I was stuck standing in a friggin' puddle and my toes were going absolutely numb (in fact, to while the time away I sang a solo version of Numb complete with backing vocals and sound effects :smug: ) No hard feelings towards the band, though, with the fact that they didn't come out. Honestly, it WAS really late and I wouldn't want Bono to get sick and jeopardize the rest of the tour.
Here's the REALLY crazy thing: I'm doing the same thing on Wednesday for Hartford. Come hell or high snow mounds, I will try and get my Bono Hand Shake before they head off into the great unknown (erm... South America? )
Whereabouts do you actually live? Are you within train/walking distance of a venue? I found for the second night in Manchester, I got my tickets the day before the show dead cheap (see long pointless ramble below). The moral of the story is, if you have the money, a close venue and a free night, always check ebay frequently on the day - as I'm going to be doing with Coldplay on the 19th.
long story: I bid on them on ebay, 2 for ~$70, as I was setting off at 6am for the first show and sent the seller an email asking them to call me if I won. I only bid on them because the item location was Manchester, so I'd be able to collect them in the city I'd be in. I won, and met the person selling and it turns out they were selling them on behalf of someone who lives on my road back home. Co-incidences eh? Was a good thing I'd booked two days off work too!

I have almost the same feeling...the problem, if I can call it a problem, is that the setlists in Europe were the same everywhere, they changed only when they played more than one night in the same place...we tried to have at least "40", or just one more song on the second night in Milan
And well what about being in queue from the night before?..I know there were people who arrived the 18th July when the show was set for the 20th :o , I arrived there just the night before, we all slept outside and were lucky enough with the weather..shiny moon up in the sky
:bigcry: I want one more show, I don't want to wait other 25 years :(

What on earth are you doing on a COLDPLAY Forum when you hate U2?
I can't figure that out... So hereby: shut up.
one can like coldplay and not U2, for example i love coldplay but think U2 are highly overrated  just one of those things, opinions differ
Sure you can like one and not like the other... But with X&Y, I find it hard to comprehend that people who like this album do not appreciate at least some of U2's work... I mean the influence is sooo there.

Which of the three would you say was best, and why?
The technically genius Radiohead, the melodic brilliance of Coldplay, or the simplistic, anthemic beauty of U2?
I have a lot to say here, but I'd like to see others opinions first.

I am definitely going with Coldplay on this one. Not just because they are my favorite, but because they have elements that I absolutely love--gorgeous piano, thoughtful lyrics that can be applied to almost any situation, hopefulness, and Chris has one of the most beautiful voices in music today. Also, they don't come off as pretentious...which is a HUGE plus.
I like Radiohead, too...but sometimes I'm just not in the mood to listen to them. I think OK Computer is their only album I can listen to repeatedly without getting a tired of it.
I'm not a fan of U2, so.... :D

1. U2

3 of my top 5 list. Though my favourite Coldplay songs are preferred to my favourite Radiohead. U2 rules all though.

Just... wow.
its true(although a little sad) that coldplay has still got a long way to go...their shows are engaging, brilliant, and very clever but they still lack emotion to levels almost not humanly possible. i guess is one of those things that come easily with tremendous lyrics and music to die for.
as soon as lights go on, u2 establishes an intimacy with the audience...they make a connection that makes us feel as if the audience are participants in the entire experience.
coldplay is very good live but still sort of away from audience, as if an invisible barrier has been put between audience and performer...not with u2, even if that barrier is the tv screen. it becomes non existent.

this is a tough decision....coldplay without a doubt tops this list. i've loved them since trouble, but fell head over heels with them with AROBTH. their music is uplifting, raw, simple yet clever and elaborated. i've cried with coldplay, and i have laughed with coldplay. they have been beside me in the good and bad ones...they are just the band i have always been dying to hear.
u2...however surpasses them in quality, experience and mind-blowing live shows. their lyrics can make one float in the sky as well as head bang...not to mention the brilliant voice of bono vox and the edge's superb guitar playing....
radiohead...ahh...radiohead! what can i say, but only beautiful things about thom yorke's pain filled voice? how about their incredible creativity? they revolitionazed the sound of rock, making it sound as if puzzles and riddles were being solved...
tough choice, really hard to decide but here goes:
1. coldplay
2. u2
3. radiohead

U2
Coldplay is still young, and personally, I think Radiohead has really gotten too caught up in themselves or something, but we'll see what they do later. So I gotta go with U2. Together for almost 30 years, great album after great album of world-changing music, and a sound that influenced tons of other good bands like Coldplay. And talk about giving songs new life at concerts! U2 rules the live show any day.

I have a lot of respect for U2 they are the veterans out of the three. There music is inspiring and beautiful. Not to much to say for them since I don't own not one album. Bono voice is hard and edgey to me. I haven't really heard him sing soft. What U2 album would you recommend?
Radiohead, I think are the most creative band I ever heard in my life. Someone said earlier that their music is like trying to figure out a puzzle or something like that. I think they do leave a lot to the imagination, I'm usually trying to figure out what they are trying to convey in their music. Thom's voice is haunting he sounds like a lost ghost and I think that amazing. Musically they do so much more then Coldplay but they don't have the lite heartedness like Coldplay. I always say that Coldplay is the North pole and Radiohead is the southpole; Heaven and Hell. Pyramid Song and Life in a Glass House and many others are just creative masterpieces. I never heard a Rock band merge Jazz and Rock so well.
Coldplay is what the Beatles were for my dad. I Love their music, I want to emulate their music, I want to express myself as well as they do just as my dad wanted to do with the Beatles. Their music is touching, and heartfelt, and silent and loud, and beautiful. They to me are not the best muscians in the world and they know this but for me they are definitely one of the best storytellers. It's amazing and great that they express all those different types of emotions so beautifully and as Chris would say without pretensiousness.
Peace

The funny thing is that most people who don't like U2 didn't really like X&Y as far as my observations show. But then again, people who love U2 also thought of it as a bust.

Whereabouts do you actually live? Are you within train/walking distance of a venue?
I'm in Rhode Island, only a good hour (with no traffic) outside Boston. It took 2 and a half hours in the snow on Sunday though. Bleh! I'm an hour and a half outside Hartford, and it's a pretty nice drive. I'm incredibly lucky to be in an essential 'U2 Hub' for performances (I could have even made it to MSG if I had the money  ). Awesome ticket story. Really, the things we go to to see our bands, huh? The show I'm going to tomorrow is the only one that I didn't get scalped for. Fucking shitty ass seats, but I'll be there. Numero Cuatro, babay!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them to come back in maybe another year or 2, I don't know about you guys. *sends lots of good karma to band* C'mon U2, pull a Zooropa, make a quick, brilliant album and get back on tour! I'm selfish, what can I say! :P
Mildred, I completely agree with what you said about Coldplay. It really is no offense to them or there music when I say U2 has a better live show. I think U2 has a better live show than ANY act out there, even heads over heels above the Rolling Stones (who I caught in Fenway this past summer). It's not JUST about the kick ass rock 'n roll they're shelling out to us, but it's about something much deeper. I'm not a person of a prescribed faith (not to get into religion or anything, it just relates to what I'm saying). Yet everytime I go to see U2 I feel like... there is something DEEPER in the house. Something above me, or Bono, or anyone. I really feel a strange urge to drop to my knees at the end of each show. Sure, it sounds really weird, but for a person who's never believed in anything, they give me something to believe in. I can feel Coldplay aspiring to that, and I felt the beginings of it in August. I just don't think they have that experience as of yet. Give them a few more thousand stadium shows and 20 more years, and I'm sure they'll be right there alongside U2.
Now, I am going to go blast Vertigo and wish that I could blast this on my guitar to get pumped for tomorrow (get this, I broke my finger in gym today. Greeeaaat   ). *done blabbing*

oh this is sooooooooooooo easy...
Radiohead.. and here's my reasoning..
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002UJQ.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg---period.
they are constantly evolving as a band. No two albums sound the same and with each one.. they push the envelope. Something Coldplay and U2 can only dream of. Granted.. U2 are he vets here.. and I give them much respect.. they would be my close second beause of all the influences U2 has and how they reach out to masses on all different levels.. however.. a great band has to always push for higher and better. Coldplay would've been that band.. but then they put out X&Y lol
Listen to Radioheads The Bends and OK Computer.. probably two of the most cohesive albums they have put out.. then listen to the rest of the catalog... you can then truly appreciate the beautiful wonderous musical genius that is Thom Yorke and the boys of Radiohead.
done.

Let me sum up...
Vertigo
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
City of blinding lights
All because of you
...maybe OOTS...you're right, I don't know why but I didn't realised this would be their fifth single, but why they should have filmed this video then if not for a single release
I know probably it would be better to have a new album...a new Zooropa  *dreams*

I never heard any of the singles except Vertigo here in the States, so singles really mean nothing to me. Then again, I only listen to the local classic rock station whenever I do put on the radio. But the few times I have put on the popular music station I've heard Coldplay singles more than U2 ones. Dunno why.
Ok. If U2 could go into the studio after Japan (which I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt because I'm a pessimist) they should make a quick and brilliant album like Zooropa. No drawn out productions, no huge gaps. Then come back.
Because I miss them already AND IT'S ONLY BEEN A WEEK!

Whoa, I just saw this. Have you ever heard With Or Without You? :stunned: His voice is so soothing, so powerful and so... sexy in that one song alone.
Love Is Blindness from Achtung Baby also pops into my mind as a song where his voice is incredibly "soft". I dare anyone to listen to that song and tell me it's anything but beautiful. It made me love U2. And that is saying something. The only thing edgy and hard about that song is Edge's guitar solo.
It's easy to get the wrong perception of U2 (and Bono's vocal style) by just listening to their single releases. Every song of their's is not Vertigo, nor is it Beautiful Day (or even Where The Streets Have No Name).
If you are looking for an album recommendation I'd have to say listen to The Joshua Tree (of course, and I can't believe everyone HASN'T given this album a listen at least once in their life). And, perhaps, The Unforgettable Fire (listen to Bad and check out Bono's voice on that, amazing, I love it. The same goes for MLK, which is absolutely beautiful). I'd like to just tell you to go get them all,  Also, check out Achtung Baby. Brilliant.
Hope this helps you (and anyone else, for that matter) out. I'm always on the look out for maybe swaying some people towards U2. ;)
As for the thread topic, I'd rather not partake in this one. Three of my favorite bands and ranking them is just pointless, to me at least.

I know this is random, but I can't help it. I'm absolutely in LOVE with the song 'One Tree Hill'. The lyrics are beautiful...
"One Tree Hill"
We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy
Your sun so bright it leaves no shadows, only scars
Carved into stone on the face of earth
The moon is up over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes
You ran like a river oh, to the sea
You run like a river runs to the sea
And in our world a heart of darkness
A firezone where poets speak their hearts
Then bleed for it
Jara sang his song a weapon
In the hands of love
You know his blood still cries from the ground
It runs like a river, runs to the sea
It runs like a river to the sea
I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful
I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill
We run like a river to the sea, run to the sea
We run like a river to the sea
And when it's raining, raining hard
That's when the rain will break my heart
Raining, raining hard, raining in your heart
Raining, rain into your heart, raining
Oh great ocean, oh great sea
Run to the ocean, run to the sea
I'd pass out cold if I ever saw them perform this live, especially in New Zealand. I'm expecting some major MP3 action of those concerts!!
I've noticed how a lot of great bands have very overrated, hugely popular albums. For example, and I KNOW people would hate me for saying this, but I feel that The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper is SLIGHTLY overrated (of course, considering the time period in which it was released, etc etc, it was genius). However, I think other albums of theirs were much better...
Listening to Joshua Tree, however, I think that this album deserves every ounce of the compliments it recieves. Amazing lyrics, Bono's voice was incredible (just the sheer range, and the control he maintained) and musically it's astounding. Or so I feel, at the moment
Just thought I should get that out of my system :P

I can still remember SMELLS from my October show. That's very believable to me
I kept having flashbacks today to my concert 2 weeks ago. I miss them so much... I mean, it was basically a year that I had of knowing that no matter what, I'd be seeing U2 soon. Now that that's over, I feel kind of sad. I definately became too addicted to the euphoria of a U2 show!!
yeah that was such an insanely kickass experience especially since i was so close. im gonna try to go to all their shows next time theyre back in my area.. hopefully i'll have money by then :D
i always cant wait to see a concert and when its over its like.. it went by too fast.. and then i get sad. which is why i try to take a bazillion pictures. but taking too pictures also takes away from actually EXPERIENCING the concert itself. what im saying is.. i wish my eyes could take pictures/videos for me.
great i sound crazy. whatever. U2 is awesome.

*victory whoop* Good for Bono!!! This got my day off to a great start!

Hi, I am happy to see U2 appreciated here. I love Coldplay but Bono and his crew have rocked my world since the eighties and have never ever weakened.
They are the only band in the world to have achived such consistency over such long time without EVER deriving or following fashions. Fashions come and go, these guys are just made of solid rock. They are wholesome, honest and true, and still enjoy what they are doing.
I can't believe I have NEVER seen them live !?
Something has gone wrong for me, somewhere...

If you could upload it, in any way, I'd love to see it! But you don't hurt yourself over it!!
I'm still so proud of Bono. I was gushing all day today like "Oh, who so totally is the best person of the year? EVER, for that matter? BONO. DUUUH" and everyone wanted me to shut the hell up about him. I never do, though. Now. He just needs a Nobel Peace Prize and the world will be a fair place.
I think they're having their last show of the American Vertigo tour tonight in Portland (or was it last night, or tomorrow? I think it's tonight because I remember I considered going awhile back.... ). I feel sad... If I were going I'd bring a sign that'd say "CONGRADULATIONS TO THE PERSON OF THE YEAR!"

Pop is a great album - Mofo, Gone, Discotheque, Staring at the Sun... all fantastic. It is probably the U2 album I listen to the most.

If you go to www.u2mp3s.com and sign up, go to the forums and there's TONS uploaded there. Just look around and I'm sure you can find what you're looking for. (ok, that was so a pun.)
Sabrosa, although lately I've been on a U2-80's kick, Pop has always been one of the constant albums I'll put on when I don't know what else to listen to.
Stay (Faraway, So Close!) is one of my all time favorite songs, and I love the Wanderer. And Numb. And Lemon. And Babyface. And Dirty Day. And The First Time. For all that, I just love Zooropa. It's so different from their 80's material that I can see how people wouldn't like it (my mom HATES it). But I guess knowing the context of the album and how it was made helps too.

Don't know where else to post this. Just feelin' the love for this song right now.
"Peace On Earth"
Heaven on Earth, we need it now
I'm sick of all of this hanging around
Sick of sorrow, sick of the pain
I'm sick of hearing again and again
That there's gonna be peace on Earth
Where I grew up there weren't many trees
Where there was we'd tear them down
And use them on our enemies
They say that what you mock
Will surely overtake you
And you become a monster
So the monster will not break you
And it's already gone too far
Who said that if you go in hard
You won't get hurt
Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth
Tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth
No whos or whys
No one cries like a mother cries
For peace on Earth
She never got to say goodbye
To see the color in his eyes
Now he's in the dirt
Peace on Earth
They're reading names out over the radio
All the folks the rest of us won't get to know
Sean and Julia, Gareth, Ann and Breda
Their lives are bigger than any big idea
Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth
To tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth
Jesus sing a song you wrote
The words are sticking in my throat
Peace on Earth
Hear it every Christmas time
But hope and history won't rhyme
So what's it worth
This peace on Earth
Peace on Earth
Peace on Earth
Peace on Earth
Happy Christmas Eve to all my fellow U2/Coldplay fans. Have fun where ever you are or are going. :)

Electric Co. is one of my favorite songs now, just because Edge came and played his solo right in front of me on the catwalk. That was incredible... Now everytime I hear it I flashback to that moment, and when Bono jumped onto the railing only 10 feet away from me!!
I love how Bono will start singing a random song either in the middle, leading into or right after one of their most popular songs. Like how he threw in Rock The Casbah, by The Clash (another of my favorite songs!) during Sunday Bloody Sunday, at both my December concerts. And Ol' Man River after Sometimes back in October. I have the bootleg of that show and I always look forward to that part, when it comes on.

Ok, this might be a kind of strange question, but I've been thinking... And since we're all U2 AND Coldplay fans, I figured this is a good place to ask.
If you had to choose one band to tour with (write an assignment on, specifically), and the only choices you were given were Coldplay and U2, who would you choose?
Say the tour you'd be asked to go on is the remainder of U2's (Australia, New Zealand, South America, Japan, etc) and Coldplay's American legs.
I, personally, think I'd end up choosing U2. For the travel experience and just the fact that the Vertigo tour has been so... mind blowing. But that'd be a very, VERY hard decision to make. And who do you think would be better to write about?
Just curious.

What a good question? Do you mean like if we had a band? or just in general? Cause I think if I were a band I would love to open for U2 but I wouldn't know how to do it. Opening for a band like U2 is a tough thing to do. Plus the crowd is much older, they may not be as interested. Opening for Coldplay would be easier and more fun cause the crowd can dig you a little bit more. However, if I had the chance to tour (in general) with one of those two bands, I'd sure as hell pick U2.

03-01-2006, 01:56 AM
If I were an opening band, I'd DEFINATELY go with U2. Just because it would give you so much more credibility (no offense Coldplay!).
The question was more based on a journalistic standpoint, though. Like, say Rolling Stone magazine called you and said "You can either write an article on U2 or Coldplay, and you'll be able to tour with the band of your choice.", who'd you pick?
That question would definately bring out MY demons  :o

D'you think U2 will tour back through Europe?
I honestly don't know. I, personally, think this is the best tour they've done in a VERY long time (of course, it's the only tour I've gone to, but I've seen DVDs of everything and the only tour that comes close to Vertigo is, obviously, Zoo TV. And the POP tour). I think that since it's been so popular, maybe they'll take a very long extended break and HOPEFULLY come back... Maybe play a couple stadiums here in the USA. I don't want to hog them though, especially when other people have never even got a chance to see them. But when it comes to seeing U2... Sometimes I can't help but be selfish!
And don't worry ANAVI, you'll see them and Coldplay someday! I never thought I'd see Coldplay as well, but they finally came near me! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, I know how special a U2 concert is...

^well, hopefully your positivism will get me to see them... i was so close to see them live, but i didnt fight hard enough
i just wish they get on the studio and make the best album so they can keep touring! :D
BTW. omg! i have BDylan's pants!! i just realized it!!! :stunned: :stunned: :stunned: (the ones he is wearing on your animation in your siggy)

crawlinwithin, I'm sorry, I don't have that Stuck version. I do have a version from a bootleg I got of a show I went to, October 4th in Boston. If I get a chance I'll try uploading that later. It was the first time they played it on the tour! (what a moment, :o I was almost brought to tears)
Oh that's ok don't worry about it. I love that version though like how the band comes in at the end. It sounds so great. The song really lifts off.

Mildred, we just gotta keep sending the karma of ours to the band so they get the vibes and go into the damn studio and make a new album (after the remainder of this tour). I don't think I can stand waiting another 3-4 years for them to come back.
And dude, I WANT THOSE PANTS!!!  Everytime I watch the 'No Direction Home' DVD and they show him in those pants, I think that. It's sort of pathetic...
crawlinwithin, I like the acoustic/full band ending version of Stuck even more than the album version. It really has so much power and silent energy to it.

Oh gosh...Baby baby baby light my waaaayyy....ultravioleeeeeeeeettttt :wideeyed: :wideeyed: :wideeyed:
I love that song, of course it's off Acthung Baby
ANAVI I know it can be hard for you to see them live, but sometimes you must fight for what you want, and that's what I did to find the tickets for the two concerts I've been to (and I can tell you that any concert went sold out in just few hours  ), and it's never too late to see them, I had to wait 25 years
About the tour..I don't know if I "want" them to have another leg in Europe (not in the USA cause they already had two :P ) or to go in studio and work for a new album..I will be probably be satisfied in both cases

Thank you!
i'm a u2 fan since 1983, and coldplay is my number 2 band.
i've only seen coldplay live once, and i thought they were great, but comparisons between the 2 bands just seem very silly to me.
they really are very different in a lot of ways - as performers, chris and bono are not alike in any way shape or form.
anyway, i've usually got lots of u2 mp3s on my site if anyone is interested:
