Yah, I saw them play in Toronto so? They are doing repeats of many US cities as well. Besides Toronto and Montreal are the only places worth going to in Canada.

you think that's bad mate, we in Europe are paying nearly twice that for a much bigger floor.

But come on, this is U2, not some here today/gone tomorrow band like Razorlight, FF or Killers. This is the best of the best and I'd rather pay for this one than pay a similar price for 3 other bands.

I am debating going to the Toronto shows.. well one of them anyway. I think floor tickets are $49.50 (which makes no sense, shouldn't they be the most?).

October 29th in Dallas. Stumbled my way into some GA's. It will be my first U2 show and I'm just about more excited for it than anything in my life.

GA's are extremely hard to come across. During the general onsale, I found only one pair of tickets, lower level, a fantastic set of seats. However, I wanted some GA's, which unfortunately sold out a little too quickly.

Anyhow, on a U2 forum I posted something about trading two Dallas lower levels for two Dallas GA's and sure enough, got an email from a woman looking to trade. So now I'll be on the floor, two feet from the biggest and best band in the world.

Long story, but it's one I'm proud of.

*Justine*
18-03-2005, 12:43 AM
Yah, I don't really understand how the floors are the cheapest ones, most concerts in big venues they are the same price as the best seats, meaning the ones after GA.

Yah, it is weird that GA is cheaper, but I like the rule...
I guess I am spoiled and saw them last time GA for $25, it was great...

But like you said, I think the concert will be worth it, if you get GA, otherwise they will be too little

I should check on the U2 board...maybe people are selling Ga tickets in chicago...doubt it, but you never know

plus i convinced my father to let me skip two school days next year to travel four hours for the u2 concert in DC.

But, they've made some great songs (a few), the only problem is: it all sounded very much alike....I think U2 has done more for rock/pop then the beatles these days....They've explored the area's of every music-genre and still remained u2, without break ups and with a constant feel for the way they had to go to make great music

U2 are my #1. Off to see them at Croke Park, back on the ould sod in a few weeks. The first time I heard a note of Coldplay's music was when I was in the queue for the toilet at Slane and they were playing support. 'Everyting's Not Lost' was amazing.

I've seen U2 dozens of times & whereas I think that comparisons are unfair at this stage, Coldplay have a long way to go yet!

There are a lot of Eno/ Unforgettable Fire signatures on the new album.

Would love to hear Coldplay cover A Sort of Homecoming. Apparently it was played to the fruity baby in utero :)

Favourite Tracks:

Bullet The Blue Sky

Pride In The Name Of Love

Always (Beautiful Day Demo)

And all the obvious classics

I heard they are crap live, i wouldn't say "crap" bit harsh, just old bono is getting on a bit

well i like most of u2 old songs but this new album it just sucks!! i know i've only heard the singles but they're three now, so if these 3 songs are singles (and normally singles are the best songs in an album) then the rest of the album shouldn't be that good....i really loved all the songs of the album "all that you can't leave behind" so it's a shame that they're not doing music that i like anymore.....

i think coldplay are now better than u2

i've heard that the concert they gave here in lisbon was great though....

Well. U2 is my favorite band right next to Coldplay. I decided I would personally resurect this thread for healthy U2 discussions. Keeping Coldplay out would be nice, no offense to them. But it shouldn't be a comparison thread.

Anyways. Anyone going to catch them during their next couple American legs? I'm seeing them at the Fleet (Tha Gaaaahden, I mean LOL) December 4th, and Hartford December 7th. Also trying to score GA tickets for one of the 2 October shows in Boston.

Has anybody been in the "pit" yet?

I saw them both nights in Manchester in June, stunning, stunningly good, lost for words - really are the best ever in my book - I'll upload you another show and some rarities in the next day or two.

About Manchester, was queued from 9am both days so was on the railing at the front for both. The atmosphere and performance were so much better on the second night, but that isn't to say the first was bad, merely that the second was the best show I've ever been witness to.

totally agreed with U2 being unstoppable back in the day. But actually lots of people (that know every u2 song) have claimed that 'How to dismantle an atomic bomb' is their best or among their best.

So yeah, i dunno. Ive never had the chance to see them live and i hope i can, but i think they're nearing the end o their successful years as u2.

my opinion, coldplay WILL become the best band of their era :) no question about it. I think their biggest challenge is keeping up their amazing talent. Only 3 albums and they're already a hugely succesfull band.

Bands like U2 or Coldplay would not exist as they do if it wasn't for must artist before them. Maybe they would exist with a different style from a different influence, which would give us a different sound and lyrics. But if you look deeply into music before them. They are very much a link in a chain that started back with Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and other folk and country singers. Some of you may be to young and won't recall much of the music before U2 and Coldplay. But some of you older people out there may recall Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan.

The link I clearly see is Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, U2 and now Coldplay being the new part of that chain. Interesting enough some of U2 albums were produced by the same producer as some of Bob Dylan's albums. A Canadian music producer out of Montreal by the name of Daniel Lanois.

Every U2 fan or Coldplay fan has to face the fact that they were influenced by music before their fame. And if they take the time to listen and learn about those old artist that influenced them. You will learn allot about life and why you are interested in these bands in the first place.

I know that, Coldplay and U2 both no that, U2 have often referenced their influences by snippeting songs or by full live covers, they've covered, amongst many others, All Along The Watchtower (Dylan), Satellite Of Love, Take A Walk On The Wild Side (Lou Reed) and Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who), Stones songs such as Sympathy For The Devil and Ruby Tuesday and The Beatles' Norweigan Wood, Helter Skelter & Help, often making reference to the influence those artists have had over them. Probably in quite a similar way to the way that Coldplay are covering Ring Of Fire at the moment.

Favourite album is The Joshua Tree. I know, cliche, but there's a reason as to why its so highly rated and the best legacy of that is the fact that they still consistently use 5 or 6 songs from that one album in their live set, even the non singles such as Running To Stand Still and Bullet The Blue Sky.

First off, WAR... best album. For me, its simple, 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' best U2 song, as with the other 9 songs (New years Day, etc.)

Now as for the whole u2 and coldplay come from other bands.. dude, of course they do! In the end, every single band comes from some chain/combo of musical styles all the way back to the birth of music (probably when caveman smacked rocks together and invented drums ;) ). That's how I see it, I don't think you can cut down u2 and coldplay (if you were) for not having their own sound. Anyways, just thought id let that out.

thanks seeya.

I'm absolutely PSYCHED! In exactly one week from tomorrow I'll be General Admission at the Garden, in Boston!!!! I scored really well priced tickets off ebay last night and I'm still on cloud 9.

U2's my favorite band, next to Coldplay. I really like that Dylan/Guthrie analogy there for Coldplay/U2. I HATE when people compare them. It's like forcing a mother to choose between her 2 children which is a favorite. And I don't think Coldplay will ever surpass U2. Not in my mind at least. That being said, they sure can tie... ;) But yes, Coldplay is not better than U2, nor vice versa. They seem to unconciously play off each other. More Coldplay off U2, of course (since U2 doesn't NEED anyone to play off anymore, obviously). But yeah.

Hi. I'm rambling.

So. Back to what I was saying... Um... Yeah. Next week. U2. General Admission. The only problem is I don't know what time I should get there to start queuing up! I heard people camp overnight in the parking lots :o I'd be willing to do it, but I've got my old fart mother in tow... Anyone been to a GA show in the states, any tips? This isn't my first U2 show but wow, it'll be my first one on the floor!!!!

Yep. I'm excited and letting out all my U2-y excitement here :P

My fave U2 album seems to be Achtung Baby. It's the only album of EVERY artist I like that I can listen to completely through, then do it again. And no, it's not just because of "One" I've grown pretty fond of Pop lately, as well.

Right. That was a damn long comment. I better get tons of bling for this! :idea2: :P

this is totally irrational to be saying it in this thread but.......IMO

I dont like U2 and i dont think they are as talented as everyone says they are
Bono's voice is so plain and tasteless--so blahhhh that doesnt call my attention
I think if U2 and Coldplay would have come out exactly at the same time---Coldplay would have been more successful and more liked than U2

U2 only has lots of fans cause back there---they were the only band with their style and sound---and that is why alot of people followed them, but if they would have come out around this time---there would be nothing special or great about them---unlike Coldplay

and let me calrify--before everyone starts to jump on me--this is not a U2 vs. Coldplay thing

I just think U2 is way less talented than what people say they are---i dont find what all the fuzz is about

Don't worry, I wont be hatin'! Differences in taste and opinion are what make the world go round, afterall!

It's just weird that you bring that up, because seriously. About a year and a half ago I thought the SAME exact thing! :o Thinking back on it now, it freaks me out, but really. I hated U2. Go figure. I don't know why I hated them either... It's just interesting for me to think back on it and notice how different my opinion towards them became.

It's tough because I think that to really strongly dislike something (or strongly like, for that matter!) you need to have given it a good try. It's like saying "I fuckin' hate SUV's. They're horrible to drive!" if you've never taken one for a spin. It's the same with politics. I've liked Bush. I went through the republican phase. I went through an anarchist phase. I went through a democrat phase. I went through a socialist phase. I've been on all sides of the coin (never really taken communism for a ride though :o ). It helps having done that when I get into a political debate, because I know where people are coming from. I realised that I was talking about hating U2 a year ago and I never even listened to them. It was just that bloody song about Sunday that I knew  Oh, and friggin' Vertigo playing on the radio 24/7.... :stunned: That drove me up a wall.

But, (wow sorry for my ramblings, I can't keep myself on one clear train of thought tonight!) back to my point. I learned my lesson that I can't talk about hating a band until I've listened to them. And more than one song, or one album, at that. It's probably why I only like a few bands, I just don't have the attention span to really try out too many!

Ah, don't think I'm jumping down your throat or anything! Really, I'm not! I've just got that initial primal motherly instinct (or whatever?) to protect my band  God knows, a year ago I'd have to protect them from myself.

Don't get mad at me :/ :bigcry:

I listen to you---but trust me, i have given them lots of tries--i only like one song and its "vertigo" and thats cause its catchy----but trust me, i have tried to like them, to see what the big deal about U2 is about---but i just cant

my bf is a big, and i mean BIG fan of U2---has all the cd's---listens to them all the time, and i just dont see what the big deal is about---his voice is just so plain, so blah, not unique, and the songs are just whatever

i have heard songs in the radio of U2, and i cant even tell if its them or some other new, or random band out there----his voice is so tasteless----unlike coldplay----even a non-fan would recognize a coldplay song----chris's voice is unique and smooth, and just awsome

lilchick,

To say U2 does not have a unique voice. Care to share who he sounds like. Because his voice is very unique in my opinion and I think many U2 fans would tell you the same. And you don't have to be a U2 fan to know that his voice is not sounding like anyone else's. Sometimes a unique voice gets allot of negative attention. Or should I say many people who will say they can't stand their music. That happens with singers who have unique voices. They know very well they are not going to amuse everyone in the world. Isn't it funny how Bono, Chris and Dylan all get that same attention. People who can't stand their music, and those same people who say they can't sing.

What I notice about Bono's voice is the fact he changes pitches allot more then Chris Martin. Not to mention Bono and The Edge who sometimes sing together, blow away any duet in Coldplay. I mean I'm just speaking facts here. Based on status in the music industry. Coldplay will have their turn someday I'm sure. And there will be another Coldplay coming up behind them trying to claim their spot. That's just the way it goes.

NOW to be very honest. I think having the conversation of which band is better, should not really be relevant. Both bands exist and their pleasing an audience. Their doing what they love. We all know who we like and who we don't. Some like both bands, some just like the one. I'm a fan of both. I mostly only think in terms as who is best when people start asking the question. Let's just like what we like, listen to what we like and don't argue if someone doesn't. It is pointless. :-)

Just LOVE the MUSIC. How would we evolved without it, right? ;)

Like i said, i never meant to compare U2 with Coldplay---I hate comparing Coldplay to anybody---it was just an example of why i dont like U2

and--like you said, lets just like what we like...... I know---i was just expressing what i felt about U2 because it has been troubling me for a while--and if i said what i said--was not to say that liking U2 is bad, but its to ask that you guys help me see what you guys see in them, cause i just dont see anything special about U2---I wanna like them too, I really do, and I have tried--I wanna share this with my bf--but i just hate the fact that everyone puts them on a very high standard, when to me, they are not---so if u can help me like them and see whats so "great" about them---I'm open for suggestions

oh, and i did a little experiment to prove my point to my bf-----I played a part of a Coldplay songs to my little cousin who has never ever heard either band before------then I played a U2 song to him

Then I played several songs by other bands and I told him to identify who is Coldplay and who is U2---and he actually could not recognize U2 from the other bands--and just had to guess

ofcourse its all shit experimenting--and has no relevance---but just affirmed my point

lol yeah

anyways lilchick I like that you are trying to like U2 because of your bf, evn though you think they're overrated or whatever. To me, the lyrics of Bono speak the most to me as a person who has problems with life and everything else. As a musician, the Edge's distinct style of play sets him apart from anyone else out there, though he'll never be compared to Hendrix, Clapton, Page, just because he's much different from them.

As for the actual music, I am surprised you don't like their singles. Have you heard their Joshua Tree singles? They're magnificent...

Anyways it is true if Coldplay and U2 both started at the same time, Coldplay would be much more popular considering the strength of their hit single "Yellow", which U2 lacked on their debut album. Although that album was critically acclaimed and ranked in Rolling Stone's Top 500 albums of all time.

Btw I'm seeing them for the first time ever next month in Los Angeles, very excited heh

My little cousin is 12 and i know he doesnt know much about music-but that wasnt the point---the point was to see who has a more original and distinctive voice: Bono or Chris

but, anyways---U2 are coming to Los Angeles??? wow, i might buy tickets to surprise my bf---that would be a good idea

oh, and i find it tiring that in alot shows they play nothing but U2 songs---it use to be in Friends, and other shows but now i'm seeing it alot in Entourage :/ ---I just try to but i dong get it

U2 have a lot of good albums. The Joshua Tree deserves all the acclaim it got, but it's far from their best. War was easily their first great album and 40 is probably my favourite song by them, but (I know you might find this as a bit of a surprise) I think that nothing ever compares to All That You Can't Leave Behind. Nobody said a comeback album can't be an artist's best, and it's true for U2. Most people think the only good song on there is Beautiful Day, but pretty much the whole album is stock full of singles. Stuck In A Moment is a really good ballad, Elevation is another great rocker, and the whole album proceeds in this manner, one good song after another climaxed by New York.

U2 are a great band. They are under-rated. I cant believe some people who say that bono is a **** cos he is NOT, he helps the less unfortunate like Chris Martin does. U2 are one of the greatest bands in the world and will dominate the world just like Coldplay

^Holy... I LOVE THAT SONG! I have a recording of it from one of the recent MSG shows and Bono completely flubbed the lyrics. Poor Edge knew what he was doing, though. I wish I had a YSI link to it...

Anyone checked out the recent Rolling Stone magazine with Bono on the cover? It is an INCREDIBLY well done interview, very very interesting. Anyone who dares hate Bono after reading it should just... Oh. I wont even say.

I just thought evil things. I should not love that man as much as I do.

(it makes me happy to see a U2 thread back on the first page of this part of the forum. As it should be.)

Oooh gawd. Who's been saying that song's cheesy? Have you ever seen the performance of it in the movie Rattle & Hum? Oh. Be still my beating heart... It's really the one song that no matter how many times I put it on loop or play it into the ground, each time I hear it I melt into a puddle of feminine goop. Honestly.

Well... You know what I mean.

Mildred, I'll probably scan it within the next day (or days if I get busy  ). When I do I'll post them here, or I could try PMing them to you. I met them outside the loading dock, at the Garden in Boston, before my show. They arrived from about... I'd say 3:45 to 4:45 to do soundcheck or a final run through.

I really only met Edge, even though I got Adam's sig. Some very, VERY nice bystander handed my thing to him for me, since I'm way too short and was too far back to reach... I got up to the front by the time Edge came out though! How exhilerating. I was shaking very badly and I think he could see that, he looked more shy than I was! :o  As he was walking away from me I knew I HAD to say something, so I just burst out really loud "THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH EDGE!". I wanted to add "FOR EVERYTHING" but that would have sounded so corny, and I'm glad my brain was working that much to stop it from coming out. He turned and looked at me for about 5 seconds, just sort of :stunned: Then all of a sudden he smiled and... winked at me?

Life=complete.

I almost met Bono after that, but some bitch pushed me towards the back because she "needed" her friggin' Joshua Tree LP signed. Psh.

The stories really longer than that, believe it or not, that's the edited, watered down version... I could honestly go on for hours about how Edge looked at me and how Bono was at one point 10 inches from me...

But I wont!

I'm actually quite into Pop era at the moment. Maybe it's because that period has been getting absolutely NO lovin' from the band themselves, at least not in the recent tour. Well, there was a few performances of Discotheque (which sadly, I didn't witness) but still...

I want MoFo.

:bigcry:

And a full band performances of Please. No more snippets.

Right, sorry. I should stop blabbing about U2 on here. I'll save that for my molestation of U2 forums.

I got to really listening to the record, reading the lyrics (especially Mofo) and yeah, I fell in love...

Oh, here's something I found which you might be interested in (or anyone else, really). I got this YSI link off another forum to the VH1 special they had a while back. Pretty cool stuff, Edge talks about his rig and the effects he uses, blah blah.

It's pretty disturbing that they have surveillance cameras filming the people along the outer rail from inside the catwalk... I didn't know that until the other day, so that means someone could have been watching me spazz out the whole time during my concert! :stunned: :stunned:

Anyways, here's the link. I might upload it myself so it can stay up longer, I just have to find where I saved the file. This one probably doesn't have much time left, and it takes a bit to download, but it's worth the wait.

Awww, a little late with my messages, I'm sorry atarisboy86. Hey, enjoy the concert! Good luck with getting tickets for Wednesday too, I'm sure you can find some. A lady who was number 10 (or something) in my GA line didn't even have tickets, got a number for GA then went out and found tickets that day. I saw her on the rail a few down from me, so obviously all went well for her ;)

Well, it's late now, but if you get tickets for Wednesday then I'd head to the back entrance area (you can usually tell where it is by the large group of people holding albums standing around  ) from 3-5. I got there at 3:45 and Adam came out around 4, Edge 4:15 and Bono 4:30. Really REALLY amazing and worth it!

Still talking about it

clocks-politik, definately go early. It's always a gamble, of course, because depending on when soundcheck is or WAS supposed to be, they might come out or not. They're always VERY gracious with their time, however, and there's a much higher chance of them coming out opposed to them NOT coming out. Even if they don't, they stop and give a wave.

It's incredible that they are such HUGE stars and still go out and stand on the street and sign things for us and pose for pictures. I went to the Stones concert at Fenway this past summer and remember seeing a large limo arrive and drive past the fans. Granted, this was very likely NOT the Stones or anything, but still. They don't go out and do that for their fans, and sure people would fight that they are more "larger than life", but I don't know... I think it's more dangerous for Bono to go out and stand on the street corner with one security guard (taking into account his status in the political world) than Mick Jagger to just reach through a wire fence and sign my copy of Sticky Fingers... :dozey:

Riiiight, I just went on a long fuckin' tangent.  This is what happens when I'm bored

an_cat
02-11-2005, 03:35 AM
Oh, I uploaded all the videos I took at my concert. It's been a month and I'm still riding the high. And to think that in just ONE MORE month I'll be seeing them again. (and again :stunned:  )

So, my putfile page is:

http://www.putfile.com/ancatdubh136

And they're quicktime files, so if you have that (which even if you don't, it's worth downloading since a ton of things use it) you just click on it and it should play for you!

Excuse um, any out of tune singing or screaming... I was really losing it. LMFAO!

EDIT: by the way, if you want to "watch" the concert in order of songs, it starts at the bottom with COBL (City of Blinding Lights), then the last file is at the top of the page. Really stupid and confusing, grrr. Streets is out of order too. :stunned: That's annoying...

Well, anyways. I think they're pretty good videos, I just wish they were longer (I only had so much space and they're not complete song videos, they're at the most 2 minutes long and I got almost all of '40').

Enjoy, if you want.

And if ANYONE needs convincing of why you should get up at 3 in the morning and wait in line all day, just watch the video titled "goedge" and see what the payoff is. :smug: :P

thanks for the information an_cat.......I appreciate it

My friend and I were actually able to find the area where they would do the signing.......and stood there from about 1 30 until 4ish.....as the band was late for soundcheck........Adam, Larry, and Edge sped into the arena......but Bono was nice enough to stop.....and although didn't sign....told everyone they were late because he's part of 'The Larry Mullen Band'(Larry's b-day).....and did a typical Bono pose......fist pump in the air and then he left......

The concert rocked!......at first, after seeing a subpar U2 in April and A GREAT Coldplay in August.......I was actually thinking to myself......wow, Coldplay might have been better than U2.....and perhaps......after that night they were, at least to me........but after yesterday's show......with EVERYONE jumping and singing.......during City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, The Electric Co, Streets, All Because Of You, ........an all girl tribute band being brought up stage and perfectly nailing Out Of Control........I have honestly made up MY mind, again MY mind, and I believe that U2 are indeed the best band out there......because of what they do and how much effort they put into things

so anyways, after the show we went to the same area......and Larry and Edge left w/o even waving.......Adam left around 1 30ish.....didn't sign, but as he was leaving, rolled the window down......and waved......

I did get to see Val Kilmer up close though! LA does have it's benefits...a car stops at the light...ppl(about...50ish or so at 1 30) stop and wave and look into the window....and Val finally rolls down the window......and lets us take pictures, signs a few autographs, and even takes a picture of us with his camera phone!

Bono comes out at 2 00 am....and everyone wants him to sign, he's in his SUV of course, and he apologizes for not coming out and signing........because he's supposed to be with the missus and his boys....so at least he explained......although a tad bit disappointed.....but I was pretty close and got some BEAUTIFUL pictures.....of Bono and Val Kilmer(Batman Forever fans, eh, eh, eh...:-X )

All in all......a Beautiful Day :)
