Here you go:

U2 have delayed plans to release a new album in 2011, and tell Rolling Stone their next studio album probably won't be released until 2012. The band has been working regularly on new material during their extensive U2 360 tour but Adam Clayton says, "We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it and we just realized that we couldn't. To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision." U2 will return to the studio later this year and revisit material recorded with producer Danger Mouse, while scrapping their work with Lady Gaga's producer RedOne. Manager Paul McGuinness also revealed that U2 plan to "recycle" the pieces of their giant "claw" stage as permanent event spaces.

a little disappointing.

I want to hear the Rick Rubin material, and 'Songs From Ascent' but there is another record here. I guess there is too much work going on with the Spiderman musical?

who knows....I'm more excited for the new Coldplay LP then U2, so next year might be better so they can make it theirs

Thought as much. It didn't seem logical releasing an album soon after the end of touring. Disappointed. Just wondered what has happened of the Songs of Ascent material that was planned for late 2009 release. Thinking some or most of that material has been reworked on by Danger Mouse and the band. I'm not taking chances of a U2 record being released next year either. 2013 is just as likely I think.

Also W1ll1am7 - wasn't the Rick Rubin material from back in 2006/2007 which were eventually scrapped in favour of going back to Eno and Lanois? I don't know if Rick Rubin would have been a great producer for them though. Would have loved to see them work with William Orbit for a full album though.

The Rick Rubin stuff is old and was scrapped. That was my understanding.

I always knew it would end up like this... So that's the Rick Rubin material, the Danger Mouse album and Songs of Ascent out of the window for good is it? Or will the new album be one of those projects? Or a combination of them all? ._.

Like I said though, I always had a feeling it'd get to the point where they'd be like "Nah, we can't start recording properly until 360 is over." and then deciding on a 2012 release date. I like that they're looking as if they'll start releasing albums faster though. :)

The thing I love about concerts is that you always come out a bigger fan, for me at least, and this time it was no different. :D I had a really great time yesterday. From the very first song, "Even Better Than the Real Thing," to the last song, "Moment of Surrender," I was singing and dancing along to the tunes. :D U2 know how to put on a great show and they express lots of energy and enthusiasm. I love the message they give in thier shows about standing as "One" and helping each other so we can make our world a better place. I know some people say they like to go to concerts to enjoy themselves and not be reminded about some of the unfortunate things occuring in the world, but I really don't mind and like that U2 does their part in getting their message out to their fans. :) The highlight of the concert for me was when they sang Pride (In The Name Of Love) since it's my favorite U2 song and I missed it last time I saw them because they didn't perform it. I'm really happy they decided to play it this time around. Bono also led us in singing Happy Birthday to their manager Paul McGuinness whose birthday was two days ago. According to Bono it was the first time Mr.McGuinness had ever joined U2 on stage in the entire 30 years (I think it was that he said) that he has worked for them.:shocked2: Also a funny moment was when Bono was introducing each member to the audience he was saying what he thought they each would be doing instead if they weren't in the band U2. He said Larry Mullen Jr. would be an officer in Ireland, Adam Clayton would be a posh clothes designer, I think he said the Edge would be a city planner, and he would be a movie critic. The show was great overall, and if I had any bad critique for it, it would be that there were some songs where I really couldn't hear Bono singing because the instruments were overpowering his voice, or there could have just been something wrong with the sound. Other than that, I loved the stage, I loved the music, I loved U2. Well that's my review... :nice:

The Fly?! Nice one! What was the full setlist for the show? Love how U2 have mixed and mashed their setlists on this tour but I guess with a back catalogue as impressive as theirs it's the least we'd expect!

I would adore The Unforgettable Fire for Glastonbury and New Years Day. That show should be something else! Talking of which can you actually believe people are debating about whether choosing U2 is bad or good for Glastonbury? People complain about having U2, Coldplay, Beyonce as the headlining acts and it being "too safe" but at the end of the day all 3 acts are proven performers who rarely disappoint and are massive crowd pleasers. Yeah going a bit risky by choosing Jay Z can pay off spectacularly but other times it can bomb like Gorillaz last year. Although in fairness to Gorillaz they were a very late replacement.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jun/19/u2-headline-glastonbury-debate

Typical Gaurdian though.

edit: Just a point made in the above article and this weeks NME - why protest against U2's tax avoidance when Beyonce performed for Gadaffi's son a while back?

Black Rose
19-06-2011, 06:04 PM
U2 & Coldplay are two of the biggest bands in the world currently & Beyonce is one of the biggest pop-acts to suit the more mellow Sunday headliner slot. If you don't like then than nobody is forcing you to watch them as you can watch music at many other stages.

And considering Glastonbury doesn't pay as much as the other festivals for headliners (due to them keeping money back to charity & lack of mass sponsorship). It will be the first time in 25 years U2 plays outside their comfort zone, to people whom didn't buy a U2 ticket.

I've not looked at their setlist for months but I am stunned to see Zooropa on the setlist! Absolutely stunned! They chopped that from their setlists after a few performances because it was very hard to get right live and they bring it back 18 years later! Have to say it would go brilliantly with the stage setup. Love the song but never expected to see them perform it live ever again. Sweet!

I don't know what the setlist will be, but U2 will pull something out of their hats. I'm not saying it'll be good or bad, but they are not the type of band that goes into an event this big without any tricks. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Events of this magnitude are very important to U2, and they usually do very well.

Okay fit Glastonbury in there as the final song, in a second one-song encore :p

I think their unique stage design will be a tribute to the ZooTV Tour. 20th anniversary of Achtung Baby. It'd make sense, right timing, the band have been playing Achtung Baby songs a lot on the 360 Tour (especially recently) and plus the members have been saying it'll be something special. I guess we'll see come friday eh?

Oh and if anyone's well acquainted with U2's concerts, they may know that the first five songs I used in my setlist were all played as the usual first five tracks during the ZooTV Tour. I think Discotheque MAY make a comeback as a tribute to their overall 90s sound, plus they've been playing snippets of it a lot recently.

Achtung Baby to be re issued for it's 20th anniversary this year!!!! Also in a special reissue boxset Zooropa will also be included! If it's half as good as The Unforgettable Fire reissue (which blew me away - no re mastered album has done that...not even The Beatles) then we are in for a treat!

http://mdubbleu.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/u2-achtung-baby.jpg

U2 will mark the 20th anniversary of their seventh studio album ‘Achtung Baby‘ with a new, expanded reissue.

According to fansite atu2.com, the band’s high profile manager Paul McGuinness confirmed the news in the latest edition of Rolling Stone, and apparently already has his eye on more profits for the money-making monster of a rock group.

“There will be multiple formats,” he said. “If you pile a lot of extra material and packaging and design work into a super-duper box set, there are people who will pay quite a lot for it, so you can budget it at a very high level and pump up the value.”

After their massive 360 world tour recently became the highest grossing tour of all time, U2 will take their high-production show to the Glastonbury festival tomorrow night (June 24th), when they headline the event’s Pyramid Stage a year after being forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained by frontman Bono.

The band’s 1993 follow up ‘Zooropa‘ will also be released as part of a special box-set.

Watching that intro on tv is one thing. If I had been there I think I'd have fainted! Some music journalist called it the Sgt Pepper of live touring and watching it again it most certainly was! If their Glastonbury set is half as good as that show then it'll be 10/10 easily.

That was fantastic. Bono's voice sounded incredible! I was so immersed in their setlist that my brother say 'hey they didn't play City of Blinding Lights!'. I was shocked! How could they?! Still if it was in the setlist it'd be a bonus because it was fucking fantastic. Their Achtung Baby start was phenomenal (especially The Fly and Until The End Of The World which still sounds as epic as it has ever done) and With Or Without You was just spine tingling.

Over to you Coldplay.

p.s PolarMonkey - Jo Whiley is about as big a Coldplay fangirl as you will get! She was the one along with Steve Lamacq who made them noticed over a decade ago.

Also loved Bono's rendition of Jerusalem just before Streets. He knows his hymns and the legend of that place. Epic set - but that's really the least you'd expect from them really.

The Achtung Baby set at the start was absolutely fantastic, after that it was still really good but didn't live up to the first five songs. I'd rate it 8/10, but if I were there I'd have probably thought it was sensational. The energy was definitely there throughout.

Just appalled at the Twitter feed for U2 right now. :dozey:

We know Bono has a bit of an ego, just don't get into a big deal over it.

They're just upset ******s who didn't see a protest. Protesters were battered down by U2 fans and security almost instantly.

Even I don't agree with U2 on the tax thing...oh well, it's Glastonbury.

The gig was great though. Missed half of it live but I'm listening to the rest now. Just regret that some of their more-played songs (Magnificent, COBL, Zooropa) during the 360 Tour didn't get on the setlist.

Lewis Hamilton (lives in Switzerland like Schumacher), Jenson Button, various British film stars - they all reside in tax havens. It happens but I know for sure they all do their bit for charity. They can do whatever they want with their money they earnt. It's just a story for little champagne socialist teenagers to be the desperate attention seekers they are.

You have to keep in mind they had a limited set, not their usual 23 songs.

i saw U2 12 times between their 360 degree tour, but no concert was so great like this tonight, ok they played a lot of minutes more in a live concert than tonight in Glastonbury, but i think they played the best songs at Glastonbury and not megnificent, miss sarajevoand all the other fucking songs.

^That is a great song!
They only played it live once on the 360 tour and I think it sort of flopped. Too bad since it is such a great song.
