OOOH I was at the doctor the other day in Eze, a little village 30 min from Nice, and my doctor said she recently treated Bono's son for an ear infection and that they come in regularly because their villa is across the street from her office (and therefore walking distance from my house as well!) He has a really beautiful beach house right on the water.

Inofficial U2 360° Tour 2009 Promo, fan-made.
Subtitles avaliable in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
Created by u2.se for U2 fans all over the world.
Due to a theft by jaimearodriguez, who intentionally omitted the last seconds of our previous U2 360° Tour promo video, entitled "U2 - The Future Needs A Big Kiss!!" from June 8th 2009, we decided to create another version.
Since we're hours away from the next concert in Nice, I thought it should be made public.

Hey!

I've spent the weekend in the beautiful city of Berlin (always worth a visit btw!) to see Snow Patrol (who were absolutely fantastic and who have worked in Berlin on their new material) and U2 at the Olympic stadium.

Well, what more can I say? It was incredible!!! Probably the best gig I've ever seen. You felt that the band was extremely happy to be back in the capital where they've spent some time working on "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa". The crowd (90.000 supporters) was in a good mood and I've spotted a lot of Danish, Polish, English and Dutch fans either.

The setlist was pretty amazing. I was so happy to see them playing "Stay (Faraway So Close!)" as it always reminds me of my great time in Dublin last year. Bono said he wrote this song in Berlin. :wink3: My favourite performance was "Unknown Caller". I love this song so much! :D Other highlights for me were "One", "Where The Streets Have No Name" and "With Or Without You". At the end everyone was singing happy birthday to Nelson Mandela! Oh and during "Angel Of Harlem" three fans were allowed to play the instruments! :D

Sadly my computer doesn't accept my SD cards anymore so I have to wait for a week to get my new macbook pro and to be able to upload some of my pictures. :)

In the meantime... the setlist!

Unknown Caller sounds pretty good. To those who have seen them live, is the concert improving your opinion of the new album or is it staying the same? Or I guess it could make you dislike the album more, but I doubt that is the case.

Magnificent
Here Comes The Sun (snippet) / Beautiful Day / Blackbird (snippet)
Elevation
Desire
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
The Auld Triangle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Auld_Triangle)
One
Until The End Of The World / Break On Through (snippet)
THE UNFORGETTABLE FUCKIN' FIRE :D :D :D
City Of Blinding Lights
Vertigo / Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio? (snippet) / O Come All Ye Faithful (snippet)

Where The Streets Have No Name / All You Need Is Love (snippet)
40 (snippet) / Bad / Fool To Cry (snippet)

Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
With Or Without You
Moment of Surrender

MUCH fucking better than 2005. That right there is a great setlist, although knowing my luck, the crowds going for the next two nights will get all that plus Stay or something. Oh well, can't really complain, not after I GOT TO SEE MY FAVOURITE SONG LIVE!!! :D :D :D

So pleased. So fucking pleased!

Special mention for the run of songs from SBS through to Bad - that honestly has to be the best run I have heard from any band so far. The atmosphere in the place. Wow.

Oh, yes, and Larry Mullen should get more credit for his drumming. The intro to Breathe was just... :o

Top marks.

I saw them on Thursday in Poland. They blew me away. It was amazing! When they started to play "New Year's day" Polish fans made Polish white-red flag. Those who were on the floor (including me) had red cards (actually I had a red kitchen mitten) and those in the seats had white cards. It was spectacular! You can see it on U2's official website. Dont make me regret my decision! I saw their show in July and it's amazing! I really wish I could go again..
PM me if you're interested and tell me why I should give you those tix and not to someone else. That's the only way I'll be able to choose if several people ask for them. :)

Yeah I know, he saw a video to U2 and said that he has to be drunk if hes gonna end up liking the concert. Hes got really good seats like front row or somethin. It was his workmate who bought two tickets but the guys freinds bought a group ticket so he had those 2 tix spare, so he gave to a old lady who also works there at my bros work, 2 tix for 74 pound, he gave it cheap. Then she asked my brother if he'd go with him and he said yeah. Lucky guy:veryangry2:

So are you telling me around October 28th I should work my connections in the Warehouse? The Warehouse is Bryan Adams downtown recording studio. Its where U2 has recorded some demos back when they took over GM Place for a month in 2005. As well where The Police rehearsed when they first got back together with the intent to Tour.

I actually went to see them on their last tour and was so lucky to get floor tickets!! It was actually my brother who got the floor tickets so I had to battle it out to get that particular ticket:lol: But it was so close! I even made eye contact with Bono.. there was a part where he brings one girl up (who happened to be like 3 people in front of me) and he was singing some slow songs. I can't remember which one it was. I was screaming so loud (just to see if he would react) and he just kinda laugh..haha:laugh3::D

I knew he would be there, I think I was standing really close to some VIP exit both nights (saw Bono's daughters, Jimmy Page and someone else I can't remember now), but no sight of anyone from Coldplay :disappointed:

The second night has been the better of the two, they played my favourite song finally (Stay), and Bad, and Until the End of the World

tough I must say the sound from the pitch was really echoy and couldn't understand half of what Bono said because of this

One last thing, if Elbow were opening the second night as well would have been better, didn't really like Glasvegas that much :dozey:

Review of U2’s show at Wembley Stadium 15th August 2009

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1016.jpg

Welcome to my review of the show, where I was lucky enough to get given a pair of tickets for the show, which was lucky for me, I was seated high up in block 128, giving a decent view of the stage, viewing the stage at around south-south west, which compared to the Friday show where I was up in the cheap-tickets area high up in level 5 was good. Interestingly I was sat in seat 150 of my row, which for my 50th gig was special.

Rewinding a bit to around 3:30 where I got off the coach from Basingstoke, walking up the steps to the walkway around the stadium, walking half-way round to get to entrance J, stopping and to get a good picture of the north-face of the stadium getting in the arch in all it’s glory, I wasn’t really in a hurry so I took my time chatting to random people, before sitting down against the fence listening to the football action until 4:45 when the gates opened. Getting though the automatic ticket scanners and security was routine, pouring my bottle of water into a cup to allow me to get into the stadium, and finding my seats was easy enough with the security staff showing me the rough location.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1023.jpg

After taking to my seat I sat watching the standing general admission ticket holders getting though the barriers to get into the inner circle and the pitch filling up with lucky fans. I normally dislike the waiting between entering the venue and when the first support-act, but this case I ended up talking with other competition winners, however due to my short-term memory being rubbish for names, I can not remember any of their names, but with the talking the 60 or so minutes before the Hours came on at 6:00 past quickly. The Hours are an alright band, however I can’t remember much of their set as on the whole it was unremarkable, decent songs, decent band they knew how to play, but to my ears it sounded like the vocal sound mix was too low and the vocals at times got drowned by the guitars/keyboards and also by the echo with the sound echoing off the roof of the section I was seating in, not as bad as the Friday’s echo but after 10 minutes my ears got used to the echo and I enjoyed the support from the Hours, but would I buy their 2 albums after the set? Probably not, unless I find them on sale in HMV or something.

Some Pics of The Hours:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1032.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1029.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1030.jpg

After the Hours went off, there was a gap where I went off to look around the stadium, making some notes about what food places sold burgers and looking at some of the photographs of previous events held at Wembley over the years. Following the return to my seats, I ate some crisps and some pick and mix sweets which I sneaked into the stadium, although sneaking might be the wrong word because the security staff allowed food into the stadium. Glasvegas came onto the stage around 7pm, and did a decent 45 minutes set with songs from their first album, the Christmas EP they released last year and some covers, but the lead singer was a tad on the quiet side in terms of talking to the audience between songs, like the Hours I think the mix must have been out, as the vocals were quiet compared to the wall of sound generated from the guitars and drums, but then again I think Glasvegas sound like that on the record. Good sing-alone to Daddy’s Gone was the highlight of Glasvegas’ set. Soon after Glasvegas left the stage to the sound of clapping once more I disappeared down the tunnel back into the concourse of level 1 to get my dinner, paying £7.70 for a very nice cheese burger, some good chips and for a drink, of which I asked for a cola with no ice, but got from the machine a Sprite with ice, but like most of the machines, the mix of syrup and soda water tasted wrong, with more soda water diluting the syrup too much, but less complaints about the drinks, more about the music (the food was nice though, worth the money)

Some pictures of Glasvegas
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1038.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1037.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/MrDaveS1986/U2%20saturday%2015-8/IMG_1036.jpg

Once I finished eating and returned to my seats, sitting down, taking part in the stadium wide Mexican wave, looking at how the wave tried to stay together linking the 3 levels of seating together, and was amazed. 8:30 soon came rolling around and to the sound of Space Oddity by David Bowie, U2 came on stage, and the stadium went wild, as people rushed to get back into the main area, to watch the boys kick off into Breathe, then without a break into No line in the horizon, and again with no break into Get on Your Boots, which sounds so much better live than it does on the album. During this time Bono, the Edge and Adam were walking around the stage, going onto the bridges linking the stage to the outer ring, with the TV cameras following them putting the images onto the big screens around the claw. After Get on the Boots, the boys launched into Magnificent, with a good sing-alone from the audience, but the sing-song from Magnificent was nothing compared to the singing for Beautiful Day, and it was a Beautiful day as the sun was setting on the beautiful Saturday, the roof was open on the stadium, allowing more sun to pour into the stadium. Then without a break, the band went into “Until the End of the World” and straight into New Year’s Day, of which I was very happy about because New Year’s Day is one of my favourite U2 songs and the staple of my New Year celebrations.

Another one of the highlights came from the next song, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, where the audience sung the first verse of the song, and being in a crowd of 88 or so thousand people singing along to one of the best anthems ever, was pure amazing, something I won’t forget for a while. After (god I’m using after a lot) I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, U2 launched into Stay, and then into Unknown Caller, Oh, Oh, Oh was a good sing as some of the Unknown Caller lyrics came up on the big screen and Bono got the stadium singing along to the words, which was special, another song from the album which is better live. Subsequently following Unknown Caller was The Unforgettable Fire, which was epical, and with the City of Blinding Lights following, just as the lights came on outside the stadium lighting up the arch, and watching as the camera wave of flashes from the seats and from the standing lit up the stadium making it into a city of blinding lights. That was great to take part in. Launching after City of Blinding Lights via a snippet of a cover was Vertigo, another sing-alone moment from the audience and another walk around the outer ring for Bono and the Edge, before a break.

Following Vertigo came a techno remix of “I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight “, sandwiched in between snippets of Two Tribes, with the video of the heads going back and forward nodding, the singing of the chorus with the audience was another highlight of the show. The Techno remix is better than the album version and once “I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight” had ended the band went into another one of my favourite songs, Sunday Bloody Sunday, which is so amazing live, also amazing live was Pride (In the name of love), which got the audience singing along including myself, so beautiful it was. This was the end of the run of fast songs, as after a quick break with Bono talking about something or another, I wasn’t really taking notice, instead having a drink, U2 went into MLK, and when after MLK Bono talked about Suu Kyi before going into Walk On, with voulteers walking onto the outer ring with masks of Suu Kyi, meeting at the front of the stage and looking outwards with the masks, with the audience having masks as well. That was special to watch. Where The Streets Have No Name followed Walk On, with another stadium-wide sing-song took place before U2 left the stage.

The first encore break was seperated by a message from Desmond Tutu about how we can all make a difference, before U2 who gets onto the stage though a trap-door went into One and then for the 2nd song of the 1st encore was Bad, again another stadium wide sing-song to both these 2 songs took place, the stadium was rocking. Another encore break followed for a good 5 minutes, as the boys came back onto the stage with Bono wearing a funky jacket which fired out red lasers, singing from a microphone hanging down from the claw to sing Ultraviolet (Light My Way), followed by With or Without You and the last song of the night, Moment of Surrender, before saying thank you and goodbye with a mass cheer from the audience before bowing towards the front, towards the side and coming back out of the claw to bow towards the back of the stadium before heading back into the depths of Wembley. Taking my seat on the coach to travel back towards Hampshire I was in a happy mood, happy that I have witnessed not just once but twice of the greatest show on earth, and what a way to celebrate my 50th concert, U2 have gatecrashed my top 5 concerts of all time list.

And finally some pictures:

So I'm reading U2 by U2. And Edge was talking about how he was an unfortunate looking kid, how he even knew it at the time, and how he looked just like the MadTV kid. And I was like... he's probably exaggerating. Flip the page, holy shit. You'd think the MADTV kid was based on Edge. Wow. Exactly the same.

He was an adorable baby though, with his squinty little eyes.

I was on the floor at that point. Its an awesome book, an essential for any fan. I listened to their music from each era while reading that era too. The music is so much better now with all the stories behind it.

Like early U2 with Bono driving. I still think they only became famous as gods gift to Irish drivers.

Yeah. It's great so far. I'm not very far in though. Only to the point after their first gig at the school talent show or whatever. Loving it so far.

I feel bad for poor Adam, everyone saying he couldn't play worth shit. :P

$7, that's outrageous. It's HUGE.

I've just got it from the library.

I'm only on like page 30 or something but just started yesterday.

I was surprised at how young they were when they formed, which I should've known but I didn't. The whole idea of Bono wanting to be the guitarist cracks me up, cause I couldn't even imagine that now. His ego is too large. :P

But the book is great. I love the format of it too. It's very well done.

I'm really loving Larry so far. And the Edge, obviously.

Bono and Edge spent more than an hour doing a live interview today on BBC Radio 1 with host Edith Bowman. The conversation was fun and loose, but also included the world premiere of an unreleased oldie along with a few interesting comments from B&E. Audio from the show is now available on the BBC web site. You can drag the slider at the bottom to move ahead in the interview. Here are the highlights with timing notes:

- At 1:37:45, they talk about the new track from The Unforgettable Fire sessions. It was originally called "White City" and they did some work on it back in France a couple weeks ago, Edge says. Bono seems to say that the track has new vocals, but the music is from 1984. It's now called "Disappearing Act." They play a bit of the song at 1:38:30.

- At 1:39:45, Edge says they have a new album to work on after this tour; it's not finished yet. Bono, apparently in all seriousness, says the band would like to put out an album "every year."

They are going to finish the album that they have started once the tour is done! :D

So reading U2 by U2, I was at the part of U2's concert in Tempe, Arizona where Bono was getting death threats from racists. And they took one particularly seriously cause the guy told authorities he had a ticket, he had a gun, and if U2 played "Pride," he'd shoot Bono.

So Bono is nervous and when he gets to the third verse (Shots ring out...), he just closed his eyes and sung, obviously a bit frightened. Then he opens his eyes after it's over, and Adam is standing right in front of him, willing to take the bullet.

I bet nearly all of you already know this, and I'm just really, you know, behind. But I found that so touching and had post about it here. Beautiful.

IMO,

All That You Can't... is really solid, however I think Atomic Bomb did lack some depth, songs were too short!

Pop was brilliant as I see it.

And I will go back to the Joshua Tree, but TUF is great too, along with Boy.
No Line is a change, and I think with different dynamics on the songs make it good.

I've decided Atomic bomb is much better than No Line, and is in my opinion their third best behind Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree . I keep going back and saying, wow this is a sensational album. The mixing is impeccable and it just has more natural feeling and depth. the guitar sound is beautiful, warm and perfectly layered, whereas No Line, save for tracks like FEZ, just doesn't have as much life to it, just little riffs milked for all they're worth. There is nothing with the spirit of 'sometimes you can't make it on your own' or 'yahweh', and those that try aren't executed well enough.

Granted they're very different albums, with very different feelings so perhaps I should be grateful for both sides of the spectrum.

Hmm, something recent. I'd say How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb OR All That You Can't Leave Behind.

They're both awesome. :)

w1ll1am7
28-08-2009, 02:05 PM
ATYCLB has so many underrated tracks in it.
Songs like Kite, When I Look At The World and New York are all good.

A-Bomb does have a great flow to it, and yes, it may be more upbeat
However, No Line can't be disregarded as U2's X&Y because it wasn't.
IMO, there isn't a bad U2 record, it's just whichever one you prefer.

I hate how people did not like Pop, because that, was amazing

Tnspieler1012
28-08-2009, 09:11 PM
Whose comparing it to X&Y? I'd say its less pop than the two previous albums, in fact its the persistently darker themes of the songs that make me miss A-bomb. How to dismantle, as Bono said, was a personal album, a direction you wouldn't expect by dint of 9/11. It was about life, love, God and family (tracks like 'love and peace' were the minority) while No line seemed uninspired in addressing worldly matters. 'Magnificent' feels lack-luster and two-dimensional to me, while the next tracks have nearly identical plots of being rescued from the ditches. Then the duo of GOYB/Stand Up Comedy are just lyrically corny. In generally the song stories are much more distant.

Mind you, most of these songs are decent or even great instrumentally, I guess its just that no line doesn't have much authentic emotional import from bono. Pretty much every A-bomb track features a sincere, beautiful, sensitive vocal that adds more than just melody, and I feel cut-off from that. Even white as snow comes off as very stoic compared to miracle drug, sometimes, city of blinding lights, original of the species, yahweh etc..

Josh42
28-08-2009, 09:15 PM
Agreed, Chris.

A Bomb is very, very deep.

w1ll1am7
28-08-2009, 09:25 PM
U2, yes, has strayed LYRICALLY from A Bomb to No Line.

A Bomb is obviously a personal record, because nothing beats the emotion in Sometimes...
However just because all of Bono's emotion isn't there does not make this a bad record.
I wouldn't rank A Bomb higher than No Line because No Line is musically better IMO.
A Bomb has Miracle Drug, which has an Edge verse which is great.
Vertigo is the big lead song, which is something No Line does not have.
The thing with A Bomb is that once you get to A Man And A Woman, you get off the 'easy listening' sort of songs, and you have to listen to 'One Step Closer' which i think is overrated. but it's still good.
I think Yahweh is good, but it's not that good.
The thing with No Line is that Eno and Lanois are great in it, the production. I'm not saying A Bomb is poorly done, however, No Line, with songs like Cedars of Lebanon and Unknown Caller (listen to the birds in the beginning) are just amazing.
I like them both, but since No Line is new and i've heard A Bomb so many times, I like No Line better.
There is no bad U2 record, and I think each in their own rights have their strengths and weaknesses. I can't put one on top of another, no album is my favorite

Prospekt.
28-08-2009, 10:43 PM
Lol, you've just spent your last few posts talking about how No Line is better than HTDAAB, and not you say "no album is my favorite."

I think the appeal of HTDAAB is the emotion, with U2 you get a lot of songs about politics and that's how Bono originally wanted the album to be cause there was so much shit going on in the world. But that's not "where he was at," so it's a album about relationships more than anything. And that's attractive to me in particular because I enjoy the love songs and the relationship songs more than the straight political stuff.

No Line is still great but it comes off as a bit lacking emotionally and lyrically.

I pretty much just agree with Tnspieler.

Also the imaginary X&Y comparison made no sense. :P

Most accessible - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (recommended), All That You Can't Leave Behind

Best - The Joshua Tree (highly recommended), Achtung Baby (also highly recommended).

most political - War

most underrated - Boy, October, The Unforgettable Fire (recommended)

^all IMHO

That's the first U2 record I had and was fully listening to. And I went into it kind of blind, I thought it was brilliant and just loved the whole thing.

Then I kind of heard about how people thought it was bad and it wasn't very well received by critics, and I was sort of taken aback.

I still think it's fantastic.

OK, you two are making me think I need to go back and listen to HTDAAB again. That's honestly the album I've listened to least. I love City of Blinding Lights, but for some reason, the rest of the album never really captured my attention. I'll have to try it again...

This is a really great analysis of both albums. I really agree about NLOTH- it's not BAD, definitely, just nothing that particularly stands up and shouts like ATYCLB did for me.

I've been listening to U2 for a loooong time, so I'm still very partial to The Joshua Tree. Achtung is, of course, pretty much beyond reproach and I also really liked Pop. I'm not a fan of Zooropa. Post Achtung, my favorite- by far- is All That You Can't Leave Behind.

I like No Line better, but I have no outright favorite.

The reason I compared No Line to X&Y is because people are saying it was good, but not their best. I don't think you can define an album as an artists best. record sales stand out, maybe, but really everyone has their own interpretation.
I loved A-Bomb for the longest time, and I still do, but No Line is just in with me right now

Record Sales are meaningless.
When comparing 2 albums, just because album A sold X more copies than album B doesn't make album A better, it had a bigger marketing budget etc.

exactly, now a days, they really need to count digital sales, like iTunes, that's where everyone buys it, not from your local record store..

nobody seems to like physical copies! :(

not for certification of platinum and what not...i don't think so.

I'm pretty sure no line sold a lot
however I don't see an Ireland listing and UK is only 1x platinum and Gold in the U.S.

Prospekt.

Hmm. Interesting.

But with just the count of digital and physical... No Line still sold less copies.
