I love Coldplay really rock and know how to put on a great show. Has anyone seem them recently, I heard they played here in LA a few months ago but I was unable to go because I was at my internship. I work for Universal Music Group (UMG). Since I love music I knew this was the ideal place for me! I enjoy Blur, Weezer, The Vines, Jimmy Eat World and Beck. My newest pick however is a new band here in the states called Fiction Plane. Their new album was just released on March 9, 2003 and it totally rocks. You should all check them out www.fictionplane.com and let me know what you think. They just went on tour with Something Corporate and the JulianaTheory. Please write back and tell me what you think.
Rock on…
Jenny

What up all...everyone here is obvoulsy a huge Coldplay fan, and are also fans of the British alt rock/electronica sound, i.e. Radiohead. So i know y'all are gonna like a new band called Fiction Plane. They have the same sound going on, and these guys are legit. They're good. Their CD "Everything Will Never be ok" hasn't left my CD player for days, ever since I got it thru working at Universal. You can hear some samples at fictionplane.com, check em out and lemme know what ya think.

Hey everyone! I'm an intern at Universal Music and I just have been amazed about a new rock band. It's a new brit band called Fiction Plane. They have a very solid rock sound, far from pop music that you hear on the radio. I think that if you like Coldplay, you'll enjoy Fiction Plane. Their new album "EVerything Will NEver Be OK" is availble on http://www.fictionplane.com Tell me what you think of them!

Fiction Plane “Left Side of the Brain”

So how does a relatively unknown band like Fiction Plane nail down the opening slot on this summer’s Police reunion tour, appear on Jay Leno, and release a hot new CD all at the same time? Well, when your bass player/vocalist is the son of one Gordon Sumner (also known as Sting), a little nepotism goes a long way.

With the release of “Left Side of the Brain,” the UK trio makes a splash in the United States by invading the airwaves with their infectious single called “Two Sisters” and laying down a solid batch of songs that will sound great in amphitheaters and stadiums alike. The band’s first album, “Everything Will Never Be OK,” was released in 2003 and received little notice. For the band’s second CD, Joe Sumner is joined by guitarist Pete Wilhoit and drummer Seton Daunt on 11 catchy and mostly upbeat tracks.

And if you’re wondering if the young Sumner lad sounds anything like his Dad, the answer is a resounding “yes.” The resemblance is uncanny when he stretches into the upper register of his voice. The similarities are most noticeable on the punchy “Death Machine” and “It’s A Lie.” Also, the bass plays a prominent part in the melody line on most songs, so there’s bound to be a barrage of comparisons, for better or worse.

Musically, the band has a lot in common with the Police but there’s a harder edge that reminds the listener of U2 and the poppier efforts by bands like Coldplay and Lifehouse. Produced by Paul Crockett (The Cure, Bjork, Radiohead), the whole CD has a wide open feel and is perfect for the onset of the summer months.

At times, the nepotism thing can work out (Jakob Dylan, Oliver Wakeman) and other times, it’s a dismal failure (Julian Lennon, Kelly Osbourne). With Fiction Plane, it may not even matter because “Left Side of the Brain” is a pretty good CD, with or without the famous blood lines. All things considered, you could do a lot worse with your music allowance.
