lately i've been listening to a lot of jeff buckly (r.i.p. of course!) and i just wish that coldplay would do a cover of "last goodbye". it's a terrific track!

what about you guys? any songs you wish coldplay had done or would cover?

Hmmmmm..... I think Chris Martin could do some cool Nick Drake covers.
Or how about The Beatles' With a Little Help from My friends.....??????

I hate when people cover good Beatles songs.. but I think Coldplay could pull it off.

oh, i'd KILL to hear them do "wonderwall" and "across the universe" in particular, but i could probably come up with an endless list of songs i'd LOVE to hear their take on. mainly a lot of beatles, death cab for cutie, and U2 songs. specifically the beatles "for no one," DCFC's "marching bands of manhattan," and U2's "a sort of homecoming" (which chris once cited as his favorite U2 song anyway :D)

If Coldplay could play any other song, I'd pick ones from my other favorite bands.

#1) Starlight- Muse
#2) Soul Meets Body- Death Cab For Cutie
#3) Keep the Car Running- The Arcade Fire
#4) I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For- U2
#5) Champagne Supernova- Oasis
#6) Hey Jude- The Beatles
#7) Love Reign O'er Me- The Who
#8) How to Save a Life- The Fray
#9) Brick- Ben Folds Five
#10) Everlong- Foo Fighters

I know. A bit much, but I can imagine Coldplay playing these songs. U2 and Oasis are their inspirations, Muse has been compared to Coldplay, The Beatles are immortals, they do like The Arcade Fire, and The Fray and Ben Folds Five both have awesome piano solos Chris would rock on!

As for DCFC, The Who and the Foo Fighters, I just really love those songs.

Starlight i think would be a good idea because as you said the two bands are so often compared.
Still haven't found what i'm looking for would be AWESOME. i like that one.
Champagne supernova would also be pretty good, but there are other oasis songs i would do first.
Hey jude would be great as anything by the beatles would be.
Love Reign O'er Me would be cool but they would have to completely change it around. Because will can't drum like moon can. And Chris (as anyone would) would struggle singing that song. It would have to be a complete reinvention.
Everlong would be cool. I'd like to see what they would do with a grunge song.

Overall good suggestions!;)

I'll add tiny dancers by elton john to my list. as well as REM's losing my religion.

I've been thinking more about these songs...

I have just listened to U2. Two albums. The Joshua Tree & War. And, even though they aren't U2, I think it'd be really, REALLY awesome if they were to do 'Sunday Bloody Sunday,' even though Chris (while I do love his voice) could not pull off Bono's voice.

Another song I'd love to hear them cover would be 'Bullet the Blue Sky,' but, yet again, the whole vocals issue.

Johnny is The Edge. I know his guitar playing has been compared to the U2 legend. That would be no problem. Will and Guy are competent players, just like Larry Muellen Jr. and Adam Clayton.

I don't know. That's my opinion. I love Coldplay and I love U2.

He might be able to pull of "City Of Blinding Lights"... but I'd love to see them play "Bullet The Blue Sky" just to hear them tackle an angry song. And now that I think about it, that particular song doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Bohemian Rhapsody
This song is probably way to hard for them, but if they could do it, it would be awesome.

For something more realistic, they should cover any Ben Folds song.

Chris said he tried singing Bohemian Rhapsody in a karaoke bar once and he was so bad he had to stop after the first verse. :D

Ooh, since I'm in a lovey-dovey mood, I'd love it if he sang MJ's Human Nature or Liberian Girl. :dazzled:
But no one's ever successfully covered MJ.

I'll return here when I'm in a a less gay mood with more songs like All These Things That I've Done.

After hearing Chris play along with it, I'd love to hear Coldplay tackle it. Chris has the range, and Jonny? Well...*dies*:)

I'd love to hear a live version of Up with the Birds or Don't Let it Break your Heart or even a rearranged version of Speed of Sound before I hear a cover.

Having said that, I was listening to Let It Be today at work and I would love to hear Coldplay perform that song. I also really enjoy the tiny Rehab snippet (despite the wrong lyrics) that Chris sings before Fix You. I'd pay to hear the whole song with just him and the organ.
