All right... here's what I've got, taken from my notes.

Daniel is in London at the moment. They're currently mixing the record (in New York, I think). They wrote the songs last year and recorded in November. Unlike the other albums, this time they went into the studio without anything written. Daniel wrote a lot on his own before they went into the studio this time. He said they had a really good energy in the studio after having had a proper break from touring and promotion.

The interviewer asked about the move to Capitol/Parlophone and Daniel said they like the people they're working with at Capitol, and the fact that Parlophone is so good in the UK was a part of their decision.

The record was recorded in New York this time--not at the studio in CT as the other two albums were. This meant that after a day in the studio they could all go home to their normal lives.

He said they've been less obsessive on this record and more open. He used words like "relaxed" and "balanced" to describe how work on the album has gone. He did say that the record "had" to be made in New York. I think what he meant was that they couldn't have made this record anywhere else--in terms of how it sounds.

He described the new album as more open, with more atmospheres and new/different elements. This time instead of writing some parts after others, they wrote all the different parts (keyboards, for example) together. He gave the impression that the album will have a broader, more varied sound than previous efforts. He said that they haven't been over-thinking this record.

He mentioned that they've found that sometimes touring and creativity don't go together well... that they need to be able to get together alone in a rehearsal space to make new music.

He said that the song titles are not necessarily finalized yet, but he did reveal that one song will be called "Mammoth." He also said that there is no album title yet. He couldn't confirm which festivals they'll be playing this summer, but he did say that they'll be playing some. They hope to be done with the record by next month and plan to release it in early summer--hopefully June!

After years of waiting, long stretches of silence, and the ramping up of fan expectations, Capitol Records recording artists Interpol have finally announced...a Canadian tour!

With Interpol's third album tentatively scheduled for release "early this summer", the first people to hear new material won't be the crowds at Coachella or NYC's hipster elite. Rather, they will be the citizens of Ottawa, Ontario, where the band will launch a brief pre-Coachella trek in mid-April.

Interpol are working on the album right now with producer Rich Costey, who has worked with everyone from Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party to Rage Against the Machine and My Chemical Romance to Fiona Apple and the Swirlies. Should be interesting.

In February 2007, EMI announced a merger of Virgin Records and Capitol Records into the Capitol Music Group, as part of this restructuring, hundreds of staff from multiple divisions were laid off and many artists were cut from the roster.

just because its finished doesn't mean there can't be last minute add-ons.... I mean look at C'Mere...... it was a completely different tune before it made the album and it even had a different title.


Besides.. its not to difficult to add on a last minute track to an already finalized album..... Coldplay did it with Clocks.. and look what a mega hit that was! :P

i'm actually one of those who like the cover though it's completely different to previous ones, they abandoned the minimalistic image def.

This is exactly what I believe. Plus, bands morph, little by little, that's part of the artistic growth. They are still them, just a bit more friendly, that's all.

Turn on the Bright Lights is so much better than Antics. I have absolutely no faith Our Love to Admire will be as good as their first album. Which doesn't mean I wont love it.

Hm...I ordered both "The Soft Bulletin" and "At War With the Mystics" by The Flaming Lips from amazon.com last year in the same order a bit after the release of AWWTM. Not sure which one I listened to first. By the way, not sure if this offer is to everyone, as I have ordered a moderate amount of items from amazon.com over the past year, year and a half, and one can get a trial Amazon Prime membership for a month (FREE shipping).

Anyways, not really sure how Interpol came into my listening rotation as of late, but I really enjoy their singles, especially "Obstacle 1", and remember enjoying it when it came out years ago. I think it is partially the ambiguity of their track titles that has deterred me from purchasing their first album. One track titled "Obstacle 1" and another "Obstacle 2"??? I also recognize "Slow Hands" as being a song on the radio, but the local alternative rock station didn't seem to keep the song in their rotation that long and I don't hear them play much Interpol overall.

I like their songs, but if there is one weak spot, it is the lyrics, overall. They can be hard to understand and even when I understand them...I don't at times (in terms of them making sense) and the rhythm when singing can be repetitive and monotone at times. The lyrics do compliment the music, and don't detract much, if at all in most cases, in my opinion, but I'm sure some feel that it does and thus may be a reason for a lack of mass appeal on the radio per say (at least around here in Michigan), but I feel the lyrics could use improvement, at the very least, in their singles.

Hm...I ordered both "The Soft Bulletin" and "At War With the Mystics" by The Flaming Lips from amazon.com last year in the same order a bit after the release of AWWTM. Not sure which one I listened to first. By the way, not sure if this offer is to everyone, as I have ordered a moderate amount of items from amazon.com over the past year, year and a half, and one can get a trial Amazon Prime membership for a month (FREE shipping).

Anyways, not really sure how Interpol came into my listening rotation as of late, but I really enjoy their singles, especially "Obstacle 1", and remember enjoying it when it came out years ago. I think it is partially the ambiguity of their track titles that has deterred me from purchasing their first album. One track titled "Obstacle 1" and another "Obstacle 2"??? I also recognize "Slow Hands" as being a song on the radio, but the local alternative rock station didn't seem to keep the song in their rotation that long and I don't hear them play much Interpol overall.

I like their songs, but if there is one weak spot, it is the lyrics, overall. They can be hard to understand and even when I understand them...I don't at times (in terms of them making sense) and the rhythm when singing can be repetitive and monotone at times. The lyrics do compliment the music, and don't detract much, if at all in most cases, in my opinion, but I'm sure some feel that it does and thus may be a reason for a lack of mass appeal on the radio per say (at least around here in Michigan), but I feel the lyrics could use improvement, at the very least, in their singles.

thats the beauty of Paul Banks lyrics. He's very metaphorical and subliminal in his lyrics. Not so plain to the eye...... I like that about his music. You can never really know what a song is truly about because everyone interpets the lyrics differently.. and thats what he likes. You'll never see the lyrics posted accurately...because thats the way Paul likes it. :) At least thats how its been before... I hope they maintain it that way on Capitol. As for UK release dates..... thats the way the British market works I suppose. Ususally bands try to break the UK scene first... then come over to the US- worked for the Killers..... :P not that they even compare.. but, you get my point? It doesn't matter that they are from NY or not.... breaking the UK scene first is important in their success.... and they were bigger in the UK than they were here..... look at all the festivals they're doing over there this summer! :( I am so jealous.

In the U.K. 99.9% of all new releases come out on Mondays, in America most releases come out Tuesdays. It's just the way it is.

From the opening notes of “Pioneer to The Falls,” to the sprawling echoed chords of “The Lighthouse,” Interpol have taken a far grander approach with Our Love To Admire, encompassing arrangements of more paramount proportions than captured by the usual 4 person band. Following a brief break after their world tour supporting the release of their last hit album Antics, the band re-grouped in New York City to lay down the foundation for Our Love To Admire. A departure from songwriting tactics used on both of their prior releases, the band brought no material from the road, instead choosing to start work on their third album revitalized and with a clean slate. Thus, armed with completely open minds and lacking any conceptions as to what this release would bring, Our Love To Admire, is the natural evolution from their prior albums; 2002’s Turn on the Bright Lights and 2004’s Antics.



The approach taken to this record also allowed Interpol the clarity to pull out more sophisticated sounds. Where keyboards existed as more of an after-thought on their predecessors, Our Love To Admire, brought them to the forefront of the arranging process, paving the way for more epic songs. Exemplified by the depth and rich texture of such songs as “No I in Threesome” and “Rest My Chemistry,” Interpol opted for natural orchestration over synthetic °© often sampling an actual string section, and even working with a live brass octet for certain choice moments.



Our Love To Admire is an artfully driven auditory experience - built up of synergetic instrumental arrangements and poignant lyrics that flow beautifully from one song to the next. Carlos whispered something in Paul's ear right before they started PDA.... and it looked like Daniel was having problems with his Epiphone for a while... he knelt down during his lyrics part.. but it was too late... alas.. the guitar blew. You can hear him tyrin to save it.. but it didn't work.... so sad. :( lol but, I loved seeing them live even if was on a webcast... I felt like i was seeing them LIVE for the first time in 2 years!!! It was mega...

We've got seven days at home following our warm-up tour, so I've spent my time going to the pharmacy to get all my medications, shampoos-all that stuff you end up lacking when you're on the road. Until you've been on the road, I don't think you can appreciate the sort of Dostoevskian drama- the existential crisis- that is not having the right toothpaste. Aside from that, I've been taking my Italian greyhound to this off-leash 'dog run'. He's struck up a romantic freindship with a Labrador there, and keeps lunging for her mouth like the little lover he is. Personally, I don't do much philandering or carousing when I come home. I save the madness for when we're on the road. This week's been a very-low palette-cleanser ahead of the European tour. The band tend to avoid each other when we come home but that said, I did go round to Daniel Kessler's house - he's got a new loft apartment that he wanted to show off. We decided to start work on a few songs. We're trying to be more methodical in our writing now to get ahead of schedule, rather than leaving everything to the last minute.

There is one part in PDA where the camera shows Dan and he is kneeling at his guitar petals trying to adjust them and shortly after that, Paul announces they are having technical problems. Me too. I'm a huge fan of The Killers but Brandon was sick with Bronchitis and there was no way he could've sang and I was hoping Interpol would get an extra 15-20 minutes. Another thing about the webcast, they didn't show Carlos much. It was more the other 3 (I'm not complaining though!)

Interpol have announced an intimate show at New York's Bowery Ballroom next week.

The show will be the band's first time to play their new material for a hometown audience just weeks before the release of their third album 'Our Love to Admire'.

As previously reported, the band recently announced their biggest UK shows to date when they will play Blackpool's Empress Ballroom and London's Alexandra Palace in November.

The band previously played a secret show at Bowery Ballroom in October 2004 when they kicked off their 'Antics' tour.

Interpol play Bowery Ballroom on June 5.

^^Yeah hardly anybody on the board got any. I check my email thru my cell phone at work (don't have the internet at work...thanks to the buttheads that abused it and got it taken away) and I have Interpol google alerts and when I checked it this afternoon, I got an alert saying Interpol at Bowery Ballroom and I was thinking 'what?' and I got home and saw they had scheduled a date and tix were already sold out. I'm sure they will be back in NY soon :)

I just wanted to make a correction on a previous post. After the Independence Jam on Monday, the Interpol guys were supposed to dj and I said they were delayed. Halloran wanted me to point out that 3 of them did actually show up. One was sorta mobbed by people, so he didn't stay long, one was on the turntables, and the other was chilling in the Atari lounge playing pool. I didn't really notice any of them, but seeing as that was after midnight, I think my carriage was already a pumpkin, if you know what I mean. I did get this lovely picture of Halloran, however.

So I wonder who was getting mobbed? I think I read over on the official that Paul was playing pool after either the BFD show or 99x show. It might have been Carlos getting mobbed.


Apparently Kings of Leon let out Gaius at the San Diego festival!

After the show, the guys from Interpol were supposed to DJ but were delayed. Apparently back at Indie Jam, their dog that they take on tour went missing. Story goes that the guys in Kings of Leon don't like the Interpol boys and pulled the prank, but as a dog owner, I'd say that is just not cool if the story is, in fact, true. Anyway, one of em finally showed up and we finished off the night. I think I need 3 days of sleep now.
