ariadnasquire

bienvenida amiga Claire. ;)
well two corrections from your post here...
we use to say ¡Hola a todo el mundo! and we write poquito.
but your spanish is very good friend. ;)
don't_panic
17-07-2005, 09:54 PM
Thank you! I have only been to 2 Spanish classes but I'm going to study it after the summer.
I wondered why "pocito" didn't look correct... I stared at it and thought "hmmmm..." but couldn't think what the correct spelling was!
ariadnasquire
17-07-2005, 09:59 PM
no problem, and if you are learning it since few days your level is very good i think. ;)
poquito is written poquito because the pronunciation. to make it sound /k/ you have to write 'qu' before 'i' and 'e'
like queso (cheese). it's pronounced /keso/ :)
if you write pocito, it sounds /pozito/ and that's incorrect.
don't_panic
17-07-2005, 10:03 PM
I see! Thank you - that makes sense. I just thought of "poco" and stuck on the "-ito" lol.
ariadnasquire
17-07-2005, 10:09 PM
well you must remember than when a word sounds as /k/ and if goes 'i' or 'e' before the /k/ sound it goes with 'qu' not with 'c' ok. ;)
don't_panic
17-07-2005, 10:11 PM
OK I will write it down so I will never forget!! :)
ariadnasquire
17-07-2005, 10:17 PM
;)
the same rule works for g sound when you want it sound like in 'gato'. you have to write 'gu' before 'i' and 'e'.
like in guerra and águila.
because if you write it like this 'gerra' or 'agila' is incorrect because it'll sounk like /j/ like in 'jarra'.

don't_panic
02-09-2005, 11:49 PM
Yes, our keyboards are different :angry: It makes it hard to type in different languages. :(
@ kekita - I usually just use "cut" and "paste" but there are keyboard shortcuts that you can use for accents and punctuation. I don't tend to use them though, because they involve pressing about a million buttons simultaneously lol. :lol:
kekita
07-09-2005, 04:31 PM

For the ¿?, we have a bottom for each one on the pc. we put ¿ when we start a question and ? when we finish the question.
the meaning of y is and.
i am--> yo soy (but when we write or talk we use to "hide" the person (i-->yo).
you are--> tu eres
he is--> el es
we are--> nosotros somos
you are--> vosotros sois
they are--> ellos son
eg:
you are tall--> (tu) eres alto

lol i've answered that lots of times here..
i adore you....literally is te adoro.

Te adoro?
Adoro = adore
how about Te?
ariadnasquire

Te adoro?
Adoro = adore
how about Te?
is a pronoun
*object complement-> you
*indirect complement-> (to) you
*reflexive-> (to) yourself
examples:
does your arm hurts a lot?--> ¿te duele mucho el brazo?
you're wrong--> Te equivocas
calm down-->cálmate.
(the 'te' can be separeted from the main verb but just before the verb. and also can go after the verb and as you see in cálmate, is "linked"), in that case most of the time is 'cause the verb is a reflexive verb.

yes justin, or with wrong tenses... :confused: ... if you know it enough to can correct the mistakes is ok.. i use it instead of search on the dictionary... when i'm confused with a word, a verb, but not for whole sentences as the translations usally don't make sense... for instance with songs, it lost the figurated things it has... :confused:
wow chenlong, i see spanish is so popular there, i didn't knew it... here we can learn chinese in uni (course, not a lecture on the degrees).
so i'm sure that you'll can learn spanish directly from those guys ;)
btw do they will study their whole degree there? or are them there for a year?
