sad and depressed? :stunned: its like one of the main things that get me hyper and happy :P especially when i start with Hoppipolla.
yeah, "Hoppipolla" and "Takk" in general are very happy.
but "()" is way toosad. :( ughh... i love that feeling... but sometimes it just drags me down a bit too much.
and yeah, Orri does look very finnish in that pic... guess it's his blonde hair. dunno... but he's reallllly cute. :nice:

Hey, I was wondering if anyone would do me a favour and point me in the right direction here, just in case I'm missing anything obvious.
I'm taking this guitar class for college, and I have to write a report on a favorite guitarist. (Feels like grade school all over again  ) Anyway, I though Jonsi would be a really interesting person to write about, but I need to find some reliable sources.
Their website is one, but things like good fansites, articles and interviews, books even... things that I can actually cite as a source and that will tell me basics like their background or what equipment Jonsi uses, or more specific things like playing style or quotes or whatever.
I'm just so used to going to the library for these sorts of things, it's kind of weird to do it on a topic that is a little too new for a library to be of any use. :dizzy:
Thanks, guys. ;)

alrighty then, what is it exactly you want? there's some info about Jonsi in wikipedia but it doesnt say much, only about where he got his bow from and all. there are some interviews on http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/intervi.php which you might find usefull, there's even an audio interview but i havent listened to the whole things just yet. ill try to look around some more. i know its not much but i hope i helped :) good luck with ur assignment.

Well, i've been trying to "convert" some of my friends, as I did with coldplay! but it's dfficult here to even find someone who knows about coldplay...but this few people who listened to them really liked their music! it was funny because the following day they came talking about their history or things like that, showing they had done some research on the internet :laugh3:
anyway, you're gonna see them live! you lucky duck! :P

i'd also hate for them to become something like snow patrol because a song was played on grey's anatomy and becomes "a good song" that get stupid polyphonic ringtones and goes into the charts because of a stupid tv show.

well they were here last year, the year before, and the year before that so i think there is a big chance it could happen again. right now they finished touring the states, and it looks like the winter/spring period could be a likely time [if it actually goes through] so yeah :)
if they do come, meeting up with fellow coldplayers would be awesome, great idea! that would be fun, and a friend of mine from the states will be visiting, and i just got him into them so if time allows, we'll all have a fantastic time! fingers crossed :D :nice:
Sigur Ros are coming to Australia again?? :shocked2::shocked2::shocked2:

i definitely wouldn't count it out Annie, i think they've grown fond of Australia [i hope] to return again, they just have tooooooo, and going by their actions in the past, they are due for a trip down under. fingers still crossed.

1 April 2007
sigur rós have finished mixing their long-awaited orchestral work odin’s raven magic (http://sigur-ros.co.uk/media/press/othin1.php) and hope to release it on cd and dvd early in the autumn. the work, written and debuted in 2002, is based on the 14th century icelandic poem about a great banquet held by the gods in valhalla. sigur rós is interested in involving the fans in the cd’s artwork and have requested fans to send in their own cover image for the cd. the best cover image as judged by the band will be used on the upcoming cd release of odin’s raven magic. the format and content of the cover image will be mostly up to you but it must coincide with the poem’s theme of elfin magic and must contain at least one nordic troll and two dwarves. please send in submissions to band@sigur-ros.co.uk (band@sigur-ros.co.uk) before wednesday, april 4th.

Viđ komum hérna strákarnir – Here we come, the boys
góđu stuđi í – in a good mood/up for a good time
Jónsi, Kjarri og Goggi – Jónsi, Kjarri and Goggi
viđ förum sumarrúntinn í – we go on the summer tour
Jónsi er međ gítarinn – Jónsi with his guitar
Og fiđlubogann sinn – and his violin bow
Og Kjarri plokkar bassann sinn - and Kjarri plays hiss bass
“Ţiđ snertiđ ekki bassann minn!” – “You won’t touch my bass!”
Viđ erum Sigur Rós – We are Sigur Rós
Alltaf stuđi í – always in a good mood/up for good time
Viđ erum Sigur Rós - We are Sigur Rós
Ţiđ megiđ treysta ţví – you better believe it
Og svo ţegar balliđ byrjar – and when the dance starts/and when things start
Ţá allt brjálađ er – everything goes crazy
Orri lemur húđirnar – orri bangs on the skins
Ţá verđur hver ađ forđa sér – then everyone better watch out
Ţađ kunna allir lögin – everyone knows the songs
Og allir syngja međ – and everyone sings along
Međ bokkuna undir hendinni – with the flask under their arms
Ţá ćtti nú ađ kćtast ?hver? – everyone should cheer up?
Viđ erum Sigur Rós – we are Sigur Rós
Viđ kunnum ađ skemmta ţér – we know how to show you a good time
Viđ erum Sigur Rós – we are Sigur Rós
Viđ erum heljarinnar sveitaballaher – we are one great dance playing band
Svo ţegar balliđ búiđ er – then when the dance is over
Hrúgast gellurnar Jónsa á – the girls gather around Jónsi
Krakki í hverju plássi – kid in every port
Ţađ verđur ekki komist ţví hjá – it can’t be avoided
En svona er ţessi bransi – but that’s how this business is
Viđ ćttum ađ ţekkja ţađ – tell us about it/we should know it
Okkur verđur bara heitt í hamsi – we get worked up
En grúppíurnar skilja ţađ – but the gruppies understand
Viđ erum Sigur Rós – we are Sigur Rós
Viđ kunnum ađ skemmta ţér – we know how to show you a good time
Viđ erum Sigur Rós – we are Sigur Rós
Viđ erum heljarinnar sveitaballaher – we are one great dance playing band

On "( )" Jónsi sings in Hopelandic, right?
The same words on every track:
jusadelou jusa jusoudelou jusou.
..or something. :P
do you think there are any sence in those words at all?
I went to the capital city of my country (Buenos Aires) to see some family, that's why I was absent for a few days, but guess what I found at a CD store??? TAKK!!!!!!   And the man who sold it to me looked exactly like John Mayer, which was a bit bizarre (and also had the same "bad" mood :dozey: )

another promised album, hard to find, i've only ever seen it once in a record store or online.
here is......
ba ba ti ki di do http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/images/babatikidido2003.jpg (http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/images/baba-cover-europe.jpg)
this ambient 20 minute song is split into three individual tracks and derives its puzzling title from the only spoken sounds uttered in the piece. it is composed of four primary instruments: piano, music box, miked-up ballet shoes and electronic playback. the song was written for merce cunningham's dance piece 'split sides' which was premiered october 14th 2003 in the brooklyn academy of music. the music and choreography of split sides were composed independently of each other and were first introduced to one another on the premiere night, leaving the musicians a window of opporunity for improvisation. sigur rós left room for interaction with the choreography when composing the song and watched the dancers' movements closely as they turned their music boxes and tapped their ballet shoes.
the song's final chapter, di do, features cut-up samples of choreographer merce cunningham's voice, which foreground the rhythm of the song's crescendo. at this point in the premiere performance of split sides, a stunning coincidental synchronisation occurred between the dancers' movements and the music.
radiohead wrote music to the second half of split sides but are not planning on releasing their contribution.

It was only available by import for the longest time, but it finally was released domestically a couple of years ago, I think. And the local HMV isn't all that bad when it comes to stocking the occasional import. They have alot of random Sigur Ros stuff last time I checked, but I don't exactly have the money, unfortunatly...

just proves how much love is in their music, but my top favourite scene is when that one girl takes the hand of the little boy when they're about to fall asleep (in the "Glosoli" video).
