man...you can't die if you haven't seen Sigur Ros live...
the yesterday's gig was probably the most beatiful thing i've ever heard/seen.

i had a great place (5th-6th row, 8-10 metres from Sigur Ros), so i saw every little moment of the gig. they played all the songs with Amina (icelandic group as well, quartet from 4 women, fucking awesome band). as i said once previously that SR make me happy and make me cry at the same time...i almost cried when they played Vaka, no i think i did a bit...i couldn't resist to cry even if i tried, Jonsi's voice was as beatiful as on the records, no, even better. and seeing him crying made me and i think not only me crying as well...
Vaka was the MOMENT of the evening maybe.
on the other hand Hoppipolla and Olsen Olsen made me dance (i didn't actually dance because of little space but i tried at least  ).
and Popplagid was rocking as nothing else before...absolutely brilliant end of the gig...

best night ever 10.0
i knew that they are amazing live, but i wanted to see it with my own eyes and hear it with my ears...i didn't disappoint in Sigur Ros this time either.

Takk Sigur Ros! Takk Amina!

P.S i took some pictures and made some videos, but during Amina i realised that my camera isn't really for the concerts, so the picture quality is quite medium, nothing extra. i will choose the better ones and post them as i promised ;)

EDIT:

oh yeah...i even bought a Takk t-shirt. was worth 40 CHF :nice:

wwwooowwww... you must have been right next to me Nik!!! :D

amazing night I must agree, I also have pics and videos that I'll post as soon as I can!!!!

I saw Sigur Ros last night.....

Wow. They COMPLETELY blew my mind. I was right on the barrier and luckily could see almost everything (although I was off to the side more). Abso-fucking-lutely amazing. They were one of the BEST bands of the entire Oxegen festival weekend, and I saw some really amazing bands play. What a way to turn 18 and end the best day of my life :nice: I cried at the end, it was so unbelievably powerful. I took tons of video of them too, so I'll be uploading those when I get back into the States tomorrow. Actually, more like Wednesday since all tomorrow I'll have insane jetlag....

God, they are so amazing. Even my dad who didn't know them at all (and kept calling them "Sigaro" like "Figaro") was blown away. The tent was packed too, which was surprising considering the Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing at the same exact time.

Me too!! They were definitely the highlight and I was just blown away by how powerful and beautiful it was! It seemed like they only played for a short time but I savoured every moment! Everyone seemed so into it and the crowd were all genuine fans and not just people who were there to pass time :)

I had no idea they were so well known and "popular" (well, you know, as popular as you can get) in Ireland. Here in the States I had to discover them via the internet (thank god I did). But everyone around me knew the songs and wow.... it was amazing.... I was right by one of the speakers so I was quite literally "feeling" the music... :laugh4: I love how they came out for about 4 different stage bows... :laugh3:  They're incredible................ jeez.

Oh wow, Saturday was a complete wipeout. But I was seeing such amazing bands that nothing could bring me down. Of course I'm paying for it now, I've got a massive cold and sinus infection coming on... That's what ya get for standing and moshing for 3 hours in the pouring rain to The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys.. Yeah I didn't think the tent would have been as crowded as it was, but I did know that they were popular over here :) Us Irish folk know our music ;) :laugh3:
Well we have a lot of underground alternative radio stations who would play them and they're also played on a few music shows over here :D

The only thing that annoyed me about the crowd was how they started cheering and applauding before the song would actually be finished :embarassed: and their endings are the most beautiful
Ah that's so cool how you were close to the stage. We were somewhere in the middle. I had a perfect view though :)

Yeah the bowing was so cute and I don't think they understood our "one more tune" chants :laugh3:

I know exactly what you mean about paying for it now! I'm dying with a cold and every bone in my body still aches, but it was all worth it!! :D :D

^ My only problem with Takk is that there're only 3 proper songs in there... The rest of the album is built around these 3 tracks. And although glossoli, saeglopur and gong are mindblowingly beautiful, they're not quite enough to carry the whole album through. IMO, the band didn't quite make enough of the remaining material to make it a really satisfying listen.

couldn't say it better myself, BUT

even if it's their easiest record, it's far not their best. for many reasons AB and ( ) beat Takk...easily

Agaetis Byrjun is their best recording, close to perfect, if it's not perfect already. same with ( ), amazing album, but harder and a bit weaker than AB, but i think ( ) would be in my top 20 albums of all time.
Takk is good, but a bit disappointment considering Sigur Ros' previous 2 succeses. i quite liked Takk some months ago, but now after almost a year after it's release it doesn't sound as great and beatiful as ( ) or AB

if i have to rate the albums...

Agaetis Byrjun - 9.8/10
( ) - 8.9/10
Takk - 7.9/10
Von 7.0/10

could be a possiblity. but then again, () would have the same problem. Sigur ros works on layers, they start little by little adding instrument by instrument, so yeah, there's a possibilty the songs sound alike in an album. I dont see it as repetitive, only as like a common theme.

:nice:

I've no problems with layers / common themes, in fact I really admire and generally do like bands that try to do that... All that effort they put into their music really does show :nice: It's just that I felt that in Takk, Sigur Ros didn't have enough new ideas in the album - the music didn't move (ie. change) fast enough. And there weren't enough moments to lift the album into the "absolutely brilliant" category.

* And I need to edit the 3 songs I were referring to :embarassed: : I meant Hoppipolla, Saeglopur and Gong :P

My camera's shit with the zoom, I was on an angle, and they're not exactly the most exciting band to photograph. Not much extreme movement throughout the set. I tried my best to get detailed shots, but by the end of the set I was so busy crying I decided I'd just go for the artistic element. Oops.

Awww...that's great...thanks for the link...

well I saw an interview wih them on TV some weeks ago.....and they said that it's actually cool that nobody understands their lyics....because in this case the listeners can make up their minds for themselves about the songs..........I think it's cool that they think like that.....
So...I can think about the song whatever I want to....and no musician says...you have to think about this X or Y...

Redundancy
23-08-2006, 01:46 PM
well if you look for Untitled 1 lyrics for an example ull get some versions of what people think they hear :P even i have my own version of it... and ur right i think its much better too, cause it depends on someones situation. for an example if that person is in love he'll kind of make a love song out of it and if the person is very depressed he would make his own sad version of it... its great.

Sigur Ros to Perform Split Sides Soundtrack

As you very well already know, Sigur Rós released their Sæglópur EP/DVD in North America earlier this month via Worker's Institute. Disc one, aka the audio portion of the package, features a track from Takk and music expanding on the material found on the band's Untitled and Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do EPs.

But Sigur Rós aren't quite done with Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do-- originally composed and recorded for a project from acclaimed choreographer Merce Cunningham in 2003. The Icelandic quartet will make its way to Miami on February 25 of next year to once again provide the score for Cunningham's dance company's performance of Split Sides, this time as a part of the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts' citywide festival, Merce in Miami. The fest is scheduled to run through February and March 2007. Sigur Rós will play at the city's Ziff Ballet Opera House.

Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do (this name refers to the only spoken words in the piece) will run twenty minutes and mark Sigur Rós' only 2007 U.S. slot with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. The latter half of the forty-minute dance's score was composed by a little band called Radiohead, who, sadly, won't be performing in Miami.

Merce in Miami will also feature eyeSpace, a piece commissioned by the Carnival Center for the event, and Cunningham's first-ever Miami collaboration with Daniel Arsham and composer David Behrman, as well as performances of Merce's Ocean, CRWDSPCR, Crises, and more.

Merce Cunningham must sure be one helluva choreographer... To have BOTH Sigur Ros AND Radiohead write the score for the SAME production (and then have Sigur Ros perform it as their only US slot next year too) :shocked2: That's unbelievable!

sigur rós will be visiting swaziland at the end of the month as part of a unicef iceland campaign to raise awareness of the nation’s HIV infection rate, which is the highest in the world. the band will meet some of the kids who are worst off and play some music for them. says orri: “we’ll be there for one week to see the situation for ourselves. the rate of HIV infection in swaziland is so high that a lot children have lost their parents. our role will be to spend time with the kids and help them with their daily chores. in some cases the head of the family is nine or ten years old and we will to try to help these families get through the day.” the band’s visit will be filmed as part of a fund raising programme to be broadcast on iceland’s channel 2 on world AIDS day (http://www.worldaidsday.org/), december 1st.

Split Sides is a mutual project with Radiohead, by the way

once, back in 2003 they perfromed this "ballett" thing...together, but now due to Radiohead's, presumably, new album recording sessions, Sigur Ros will perform it alone

Ondes Martenot
16-09-2006, 03:38 PM
well it was like heaven...even better: heaven with soundtrack

the opening acts were good (an electronic jazz group and Amina), but they didn't even come close to Sigur Ros. i was totally lost in time then...i knew that i entered the hall around 8:30 PM and that's all...the show ended at 1 AM and i was full of energy in that moment...too bad we (my mom and dad came too, though they went to casino lol) arrived at 6 AM at home and at 7 i had to go to school lol :o

the atmosphere at the gig was indescribable. you HAVE TO see Sigur Ros...the show was full of emotions, they really gave away everything. i can't think of too many bands who are better than Sigur Ros live...

i'm quite sure they'll visit Israel once, too ;)
after all Radiohead performed 3 times in Israel in 2000 :P so why not Sigur Ros?
