Any respectable music store should at least have Agaetis Byrjun and ( ).

I got Von at the merch table the first time I saw them live, otherwise you'd probably have to order it on the internet.

That would be the ethereal beauty of "Vaka," (Untitled 1 if you're a stickler :dozey: ) with which they've opened most (if not all) of their shows for the past couple years. :)

I've seen them twice, actually! The first time, I ended up driving all the way to New York because I wasn't sure they'd ever play around here again, and ended up spending a pretty sum of money between parking, the ticket, transportation, and the CD.

Then they played two miles from where I live about six months later. :P

flugufrelsarinn

dagarnir eru langir.

beautiful beautiful song :)

starálfur

blá nótt yfir himininn
blá nótt yfir mér
horf-inn út um gluggann
minn með hendur
faldar undir kinn
hugsum daginn minn
í dag og í gær
blá náttfötin klæða mig í
beint upp í rúm
breiði mjúku sængina
loka augunum
ég fel hausinn minn undir sæng
starir á mig lítill álfur
hleypur að mér en hreyfist ekki
úr stað – sjálfur
starálfur
opna augun
stírurnar úr
teygi mig og tel (hvort ég sé ekki)
kominn aftur og alltalltílæ
samt vantar eitthvað
eins og alla vegginna

I don't care if theres another thread for them, they need a new one. Holy sweet merciful god they are amazing.

If you haven't listened to this mind-altering band, go to http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/index.html and download a few songs. you will not be disappointed.

I'm currently listening/watching a live recording of a concert in Louisville. The band stopped for 30 seconds in silence. not a single sound went by, not even from the audience. now what bands do that?

This stuff isn't of this earth. its cosmic.

I got hold of Agaetis Byrjun one day just coz i liked the name of the band and the album and didn't do any work for the entire duration of the album. It absolutely blew me away. colduser
17-07-2005, 10:56 PM

*Justine*
18-07-2005, 04:47 AM
By getting too popular I mean that I cannot just wait to get tickets to their shows anymore, it's a race just for any other popular band. Bands that are notably unknown, their shows take a while to sell out, people often do not feel rushed to get their tickets. Popular in an indie-ish sense. I didn't mean that they had blown up and were on tv commercials and stuff.. just that their general impact on fans had grown. I don't know if that makes any sense. More people like them now than I thought would.. maybe only in Canada.

^ That's exactly what I am talking about with them going big.

Professor Peedston
18-07-2005, 06:57 AM
They played a couple of songs that are on the new album the last time I saw them. And they sounded pretty much the same as what they've done up to now (the "Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do" thing excepted, but that was for a Merce Cunningham thing anyway). But that show was also well over two years ago. So who knows how they may have changed and morphed.

I'd say they're definitely pretty popular here in the U.S. too. I didn't even try to get tickets for the presale because I hate having to rush for them. But they've been pretty popular here for awhile, both times I saw them were sold out shows, and both times were in moderately big venues, and that was several years ago.

I have faith that their new album will be as good as those that preceded it, but I refuse to read any reviews for this one, because I've just about had it with braindead critics comparing them to glaciers and geysers.

I love the album. As much as I love Sigur Ros I still skip some songs on both Ageatis Byrjun and () simply because they put me into sleep. But this album has got a lot more intensity compared to the previous ones imho, very good stuff. I still get carried away while listening to Sigur Ros everytime. :)

I agree. I love the intensity of Takk, and it's also the first Sigur Ros album that i can listen to all the way through without falling asleep too!

Fantastic show. Glosoli was amazing. Viðrar was unbelievable (minus the moron saying "I think its over" during the 18 seconds..)
I had 3rd row seats, pretty much centre-stage (thanks to the klink presale that let me in 10 minutes before ticketmaster people)
Amina was lovely. Unfortunately the lighting wasn't that great and couldn't get any decent shots of them. And stupid people using their flash every 6 seconds. If you don't know how to turn it off, don't bring your camera.

well, im a huge fan of the band, and i love their albums so much...but if i was to choose my fav it's a tie between Takk And ( )...because ( ) made me love this band...i couldnt believe my ears when i first heard it...
i love Takk since its their most accessible album yet, i love all their songs and makes a great album to fall asleep to, its so relaxing!!
Agaetis Byrjun is just a classic....it contains songs that are timeless like:
Svefn g englar, Vidrar vel til loftarasa, Ny Batteri...
Von..is probably my least fav, but great notheless...Von, Haffsol...

Ondes Martenot

Takk is very good,i really like some songs(Hoppipola,Milano,Glosoli...),but i prefer ( ) and Agatis Byrjun more,so Takk is 3rd
for me very hard to choose between ( ) and AB... :/
my fave song is on ( ),but i think i like AB more atm,so ( ) is 2nd
1st: AB,my fave SR album at the moment

I've just started to get into Sigur Ros, mainly since joining this board and hearing lots about them. I think their music is stunning. Really individual, chilled out and quite haunting. Gives me goosebumps. I've never heard anything quite like it before.

As for the band themselves, i know nothing; have never even seen a pic of them. I think they are from Iceland? Thats all i know!
Can anyone give me any basic info? Cheers! :)

Mine would be:

1.Takk
2.Agaetis Byrjun
3.( )
4.Von

I can listen to Takk without skipping any of the songs. The album's got a lot more intensity compared to the previous ones. As for Agaetis Byrjun, I always tend to skip Sven-g-englar and Avalon. ( ) though, 1- 4 are fine, so is 8, but 5,6 and 7 are boring, those songs go on forever. And von, haven't listened to all the songs on the album yet. And those ones I heard I don't like them much either.

Yeah I know what you mean, I don't like Avalon or Sven-g-englar as much as the other songs but I think that certainly Agætis Byrjun has the best songs of the band which I love so much. ;) so mine will be:

1. Ágætis Byrjun (An alright start)
2. Takk (Thanks)
3. ( )
4. Von (Hope)

Never heard anything of them until this weekend when I took a chance and downloaded Hoppipolla and f**k me if it isn't one of the most profound and haunting pieces of music ever! I also downloaded the rest of the album but it is taking me longer to appreciate the other songs. Takk so far is becoming one of my faves! :D

I finally discovered the studio version of "Gravity" off of the latest "Talk' single. I've also been getting into Sigur Ros lately. After seeing the Sigur Ros video, "Svefn-g-englar", I am a believer.
People keep commenting on the outro to "Gravity" sounding like Sigur Ros. I started playing along to the "Gravity" outro one piano key at a time. Once I learned the basic melody I did my best at playing and singing along in my best Sigur Ros vocals. Playing and singing along to the "Gravity" outro gave me goosebumps. I haven't heard a Coldplay song song so good since I first heard "The Scientist". It reminded me that life is good. I captured what I could to record.

Please supply your own Sigur Ros vocals and feel free to play a mean air piano as well.
Thanks for listening!
