I got heima too, wondering if anyone is confused with the DVD map, Disc 1 contains the actual movie with a lot of scenic shots correct?

And Disc 2 contains the same songs live, except for one or two extras, without all the scenic shots and more live shots correct? I can't find much difference between the two discs. I heard that some copies of heima have two disc 1's but my disc menu is different on each disc...

We (a cheerleaders team) had a performance in a fancy shmancy hotel in the capital and when we came there, someone played Glosoli and Saeglopur out loud in the largest hall! :nice: it wasn't very loud, but sooo great! :nice:

Agreed. Heima gives me goosebumps everynow and then, particularly when listening to Starálfur, which has stepped up as one of my favorite SR songs to date. Gong and Hoppípolla will always remain my top 2 favorites, followed by Glósóli which all just take my breath away. Can't wait if/when the band visit down under again!

This was certainly an interesting new sound for Sigur Rós, the beat is quite intense, but the song isn't that bad actually. It might grow even more on me when I get it together with the rest of their songs.

The video was pretty crazy, I thought the album art was interesting, but this topped that by many miles.

Martin, where did you see the video?

I like the song. It's totally different thank their previous ones. Some say it sounds like Animal Collective, but since I still haven't listened to that band I think Gobbledigook sounds similar to Architecture in Helsinki/Broken Social Scene. But ONLY small sequences. Don't jump on me now saying how much do I suck for thinking that or something :P

Hello guys! How's everyone? hope all is well..

As i see everyone knows about the new amazing single and album but i thought i should add to that so.. here you go, straight from my email account.

Sigur Rós will be releasing their new album worldwide the week of June 23. It is called Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust.

You can download the first track "Gobbledigook" and watch the video right now on SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/).

This is the official announcement sent out by the record labels today…

Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
(English spelling: Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust)

Sigur Rós will be releasing their fifth album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (English translation: with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly), worldwide the week of June 23. The first track from the album, entitled "Gobbledigook," is available worldwide for free download via SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/). The video for the song is also on the website.

A pre-sale for the album will begin on SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/) on June 2. A special deluxe edition of the album to be released later in the year — featuring a "Making Of… " book, a film and more — will also be available to pre-order on the band's website as of June 2. A stream of Með suð í eyrum… will be available to hear on SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/) on June 9. Lastly, a plethora of Sigur Rós goodies — exclusive clips, information on tickets for upcoming shows throughout the year, etc. — will be available to those who sign up for the mailing list on SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/).

Með suð í eyrum… was co-produced with the band by renowned producer Flood, and was recorded in New York City (at Sear Sound Studios), London (at Assault and Battery Studios and Abbey Road), Reykjavík (at Álafoss, the band's studio, as well as a church in Reykjavík), and Havana, Cuba. Whereas Sigur Rós' last release — the critically-acclaimed documentary Heima, chronicling their free tour throughout Iceland — took the band to their homeland, their newest creation, Með suð í eyrum… is the first album in the band's career to be made outside of Iceland. It is also their first album to feature vocalist Jón "Jónsi" Thor Birgisson's vocals in English on one track (the remainder are sung in Icelandic).
Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Rós decided to adopt a looser approach in the writing and creation of their brilliant fifth album. The material for the album was written, recorded and mixed entirely in 2008 and is being released just one month after its completion. The album glows with the perfect imperfection of live takes, the sounds of fingers playing guitar strings, cracked notes, and a stark, upfront presence not found in previous Sigur Rós recordings, moving away from reverb-soaked guitar sounds towards something altogether more affecting. The record also contains some of the most joyous music the band has ever recorded.

Opener "Gobbledigook" sets the tone for Með suð í eyrum… with its shifting acoustic guitars, playful vocals, time signature swings and swirling percussion, while "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur" ("Within me a lunatic sings") sparkles as one of the most anthemic songs Sigur Rós have ever written. "Festival" is epic in its elation and scope, "Illgresi" features one of Jónsi's finest vocal melodies over a lone acoustic guitar, and "Ára bátur" is the largest musical undertaking in the band's career, as it was recorded live in one take with the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy's Choir, a total of 90 people playing at the same time. The band also utilized the talents of their string-quartet friends Amiina, as well as a five-piece brass section on certain tracks, in addition to introducing the Mellotron into their writing/recording process for the first time on this album, highlighted on one of the most tender and beautiful songs on the record, "Fljótavík."

The spirit of Með suð í eyrum… is best captured by the album's stunning artwork, contributed by acclaimed visual artist Ryan McGinley. McGinley first met the band when he photographed Jónsi six years ago; the album cover was taken from a flyer for McGinley's most recent exhibit, "I Know Where the Summer Goes," which happened to find its way into Jónsi's inbox just as the band was deciding on how to best visually represent their new collection of songs. The result is a perfect synergy of the aural and the visual.

The tracklisting for Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly</EM>) is…

1. Gobbledigook
2. Inní mér syngur vitleysingur
3. Góðan daginn
4. Við spilum endalaust
5. Festival
6. Með suð í eyrum
7. Ára bátur
8. Illgresi
9. Fljótavík
10. Straumnes
11. All Alright

Sigur Rós will be playing shows all over the globe throughout the summer and fall to preview material from Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, including a special set at this year's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The tour dates are:

The June tour dates…

Ara bátar gives me goosebumps

I like that song very much.

Here are the lyrics and translation.
(taken from SR message board)

ára bátur lyrics

þú reyndir allt
já, þúsundfalt
upplifðir nóg
komin með nóg
en það varst þú sem allt
lést í hjarta mér
og það varst þú sem andann aftur
kveiktir inní mér

ég fór, þú fórst

þú rótar í
tilfinningum
í hrærivél
allt úti um allt
en það varst þú sem alltaf varst
til staðar fyrir mann
það varst þú sem aldrei dæmdir
sannur vinur manns

ég fór, þú fórst

(hopelandic line)

þú siglir á fljótum
yfir á gömlum ára
sem skítlekur
þú syndir að landi
ýtir frá öldugangi
ekkert vinnur á
þú flýtur á sjónum
sefur á yfirborði
ljós í þokunni

(hopelandic)

Translation:

you tried everything
yes a thousand times
experienced enough
been through enough
But you it was who
let everything into my heart
and you it was who once again
awoke my spirit

you stir up
emotions
in a blender
everything in disarray
but it was you who was always
there for me
it was you who never judged
my true friend

You sail on rivers
with an old oar ***
leaking badly
ou swim to shore
pushed the waves away
but to no avail
you float on the sea
sleep on the surface
light through the fog

(...)

After 3 weeks of listening, I´m still not sure if I like the album or not. Something is missing, and I don´t know what. Maybe bowed guitar. Or longer songs with beautiful 3 minute intros...

That setlist looked pretty great. I'm sure it'll be mindblowing and seeing them live will be some side of magic itself. After all this time, hearing others' accounts of their shows, watching Heima and wow, I still get chills sometimes hearing their tracks (old and new).

I would still love it if they played Gong or Glosoli though. Even Staralfur would be fantastic.

Over the past few days I've really "discovered" Sigur Ros. For the past month I planned on eventually picking up a C.D. since their name kept appearing on this forum alongside esteemed bands like Radiohead, Coldplay and the Verve. I was a bit embarrassed that I knew nothing about this 'Sigur Ros" so after looking up them up online, I purchased "( )" yesterday. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't gotten 100% through the album yet (about 80%) since I fell asleep listening to it last night...but I really like what I'm hearing and it's atmospheric, avante-garde minimalist vibes are growing on me by the hour (particularly "Samskeyti" and "njosjavelin".

In perfect timing, the documentary "Heima" was on tonight. Needless to say, it gave me chills. Now that I'm becoming familiar with their other songs and albums I feel obligated to pick up their three other big albums. It's really been a thrill being introduced to this awesome new (new to me) band. Not since Coldplay have I been so excited to discover a band.

I'm seeing them in Melb, 1 August. Can't wait :D I'll meet Josh for the first time too, a fellow coldplayer. It'll be fantastic. I hear they'll play Hoppipola :)

By the way, I must mention Olsen Olsen. It is amazing. After all this time, it still gives me this magical feeling of floating across grassy plains of some sort with an Icelandic feel like that in Heima (basically takes me to some dreamland lol). I was thinking of it the other day, Sigur Ros' music is the kind that speaks entirely on its own. It needs no explaining, most of the fans have no idea what Jonsi is singing and yet we all feel how powerful it is. I don't know, I was having one of those reflecting-on-music moments. Anyway, I'm so excited to see them!

ok, i'm listening to the new album for the first time (even though i bought it weeks ago before i left america), and i'm not even all the way through and i had to come here and express my love for it. i've always appreciated sigur ros and loved a few songs, but i always secretly thought that jonsi's voice wastoo high for my liking and that kept me from being a rabid fan. but i think this album (i'm not even going to try to write it or say it) is what's making them "click" with me, just like other albums have for other bands. i'm completely obsessed with this. it's incredible, and i now have to go back and re-listen to everything else they've ever done, because i have a feeling it'll all sound so much more amazing to me now. goodness, this is incredible.

The missing names are for songs that I still can't place at the moment. If/when I figure it out, I'll add them to the list. None of those missing are from Takk, I know that much lol.

It was mind-blowing! It truly was! Each song just kept building and building up and wow, just an amazing performance by the band. Once again, Jonsi was spot on :D I love this setlist already, though had it included Gong and Starálfur, I'd be in heaven :nice: They played Hoppípolla which, wow, once the audience heart it starting, the crowd started cheering and applauding...then all fell silent and the band was full-blown center of attention with every single pair of eyes on them with little to no movement from the entire crowd.

I'm pretty sure it was during Fljótavík that the blue lights settled to the roof of the arena and small snowflake-like confetti fell slowly on a small part of the audience. It was magical as the blue lights hit the thousands of little pieces falling... Just watching it fall, and it seemed like they fell so slowly too, you really did have a sense of what the band was trying to say, like what mood they wanted to create... :nice:

During Gobbledigook huge bursts of confetti, larger this time and way more in-your-face start a couples times from each side to the standing audience in the pit area. It really just pumps you up - Aaaaaah, it was amazing! They also get everyone to clap and the energy in the entire place picks up, seriously, it's a sight to see!!!

I'm excited for the next lot of people who get to see them :) If you haven't bought your ticket or am still deciding on whether or not to go, GO, you won't regret it :D:D:D:D

How nuts is it that Sigur Ros play that Hoppipolla/Með Blóðnasir combo around the 6-8th songs on their setlist every night?

Bands would KILL for something like that to be their closer, let alone played right in the middle of the set. It's absolutely brilliant!

Learning Illgresi on guitar and getting more and more impressed by Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust.

I'm putting together some of my original songs for a little album to give out to my family. They're all instrumental, but I'm considering maybe covering illgresi. I know it will be horrible, but could be a fun challenge trying to learn the lyrics.

also, random question that has probably already been asked, but does anyone know/have the translated english lyrics to the song "heima"? i'm dying to know them.

NEW SINGLE - 'Inní mér syngur vitleysingur' (UK-only)
Next Monday sees the release of the first single to be taken from their highly acclaimed album ‘Med sud í eyrum vid spilum endalaust’. ‘Inní mér syngur vitleysingur’ will be available as a 2-track download and CD (UK only) via SigurRos.com (http://www.sigurros.com/), with the exclusive b-side ‘Heima’ featuring on both formats. The download will be offered as both tracks for the price of one.
If you haven’t already, check out the video on MySpace TV (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=41106580), it was was filmed at the Náttúra concert in Reykjavík in June. If you like it that much, why not show your support and head over to MTV2 (UK only) and vote for the video as part of the MySpace chart (http://www.mtv.co.uk/myspacechart).

GOBBLEDIGOOK COMPETITION ON YOUTUBE
Suppose Sigur Rós ask people from all around the world to do their own re-interpretations of a tune? And what better than 'Gobbledigook', the gibberish anthem itself?
So here we are: we're giving you all the backing track stripped of lead vocal and the lyrics in both (broken) English and Icelandic as an MP3 (download here) (http://dot.sigurros.com/media/gobbledigook-instr.mp3).
All we ask is that you supply your own rendition of this free-spirited branch of Sigur Ros's development. No holds barred. The only thing to fear is fear itself, etc, etc
PRIZE: There will be a signed copy of the Special Edition of Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust to the most gratifying entry - that's not necessarily the best, just the one the band like the most. Ok, do your worst....
Go to the Group page on YouTube for complete details: http://www.youtube.com/group/Gobbledigook

I was concerned about it when I read about the nudity but it was actually directed very well and had some class to it (as much as you can get out of a batch of nudists).

Any guesses on the 3rd single? I'd say vid spilum endalaust is the best for radio-play. If radio doesn't factor in...either festival or ara batur.

I reckon they are one of the few remaining bands out there that have music that truly speaks for itself (as in the listeners imagination can go unaided by videos etc), yet ironically it's lyrically cryptic and one can't understand what is being sung however we all seem to gain our own perfect interpretation of what it's saying

Yeah, I was going to say Staralfur but so many songs would work for a baby or anyone to listen to while relaxing, etc. The songs are very calming. I wouldn't say they put you to sleep exactly, but they help me relax which helps me to fall asleep if I'm tired. I listen to them on the way to work too, because it calms me while I deal with idiots on the road and gets me in a good mood to put up with crap at work!

I also listen to them before I go to bed a lot to help me relax...works anywhere! hehe...

it wasnt the best concert i've heard this year but was nonetheless brilliant.

IT WAS AMAZING!

:stunned: :stunned: :stunned:

:stunned: :stunned: :stunned:

:stunned: :stunned: :stunned:

It almost ties with the Coldplay concert in incredible-ness.

It was just so good. Wow. Honestly, it was quite possibly the second best night of my life... everything was utterly and completely perfect. It was actually just "pretty good" and not great, until Gobbledigook, which was so very amazing... especially since Jónsi told everyone to start clapping along, which made it incredibly intense and energetic. And then the encore was absolutely perfect; it started pouring rain just as they started playing around with the strobe lights. Just, eeek! It was so good!

I'm uploading videos and pictures right now. :wideeyed:
