Was this not the worst written last episode ever?

Phoebe was on crack, Joey was making dumb jokes that were too typical, most of the lines absolutely sucked. This show's been going downhill since the start of series 8, since then its just been money sucking crap.

So many things dont make sense.

Ross doesnt even seem to care about his baby, he only see's it as Rachel going to Paris. The fact that Rachel was getting the baby to Paris through her mother and wasnt taking it on the plane was like a HUGE giveaway on how you can see her running off the plane, without the hassle of a baby carriage. I knew the ending 5 minutes into the episode (well we all knew they'd hook up in the end).

Phoebe's marriage to, Mike? Was that his name? Is just a load of crap. That guy could be any of Phoebe's former partners, from Gary the cop to, the scientist guy. He bears no relevance to the show and they just threw him in there to find an ending for Phoebe, he wasnt even SEEN in like the 4 episodes after they got married, no honeymoon, no mention of him, absolutely nothing. He made a 3 second appearance in the final episode tonight.

Monica and Chandler make the most sense, but the twin thing? What a load of bullshit, how could the pregnant woman have gone through doctors and scanners and classes, without knowing theres two children inside of her? Its ridiculous. But still, at least their moving away, which makes sense, Im happy with them.

Ross and Rachael, makes the least sense. Like I already said Ross just seemed to completely forget about the existence of this baby. Rachael's moving to Paris in the first place is total ruthless corporate Americana. She's leaving the love of her life (Whos also the father of her CHILD), her 4 best friends and her family back in America, to make a bit more money on a job. Its plain ridiculous. And then she just turns around, forgets her job, who knows where her baby is (Because that wasnt even explained too well) gets off the plane and goes to Ross. Well at least it was romantic.

And Joey, I really think they should've tried to think of an ending for Joey to stop him doing a stupid fucking spinoff that will be cancelled within 2 months. Joey is now, probably just infront of Monica in being the least funniest character (Which is really bad, Pheobe's awful) Joey's world will be indiscribably unbelievably unmentionably... Un-just.

Now, they should've ended it with more conviction, from what it ends, it doesnt appear much is changing.

Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Rachel are all still living in the same place, and Monica and Chandler arent far away at all. My suggested endings:

Phoebe- Forget this Mike guy, he's alright but definately does not leave a lasting impression. She should've ran off to Mink with the scientist guy, or found her family and wanted to live near them, or just get her outta there. I dont have much of an idea of what Phoebe should've done but it's better than the actual episode.

Ross and Rachel- Ross should've gone on the plane to Paris. I knew it wasnt going to happen, but it should have. Whats the point in Ross and Rachel continuing to live in New York? I mean, theres no effect there, on the viewer. It's so much more dramatic if they leave, and live happily ever after in Paris.

Monica and Chandler- Just give them one baby, the writers just tried to do something interesting. But no complaints really.

Joey- As much as I hate the Joey spinoff, as a writer I'd be more than happy to send Joey off to LA to pursue an acting career in the middle of Hollywood (Thats where his spinoff will be based). Now their just going to start Joey off with the first episode, him saying "Oh I left my friends to come here, yeah." It'll look ridiculous. Sending Joe to LA is the most obvious thing out of everything, and they couldn't even do that.

Now, instead of doing that, nothings really changed. 4 of the Friends still live right beside eachother, from what we know they just go on living their lives like they have for the past 10 years, nothing drastic, nothing new, which is really pointless. Monica and Chandler is the only decent ending.

If everyone had been split up, not only would the final episode have been incredibly effective and more tear jerking (Because it was really disapointing, even on the dramatic scale- which should've been really easy to do) but now we have, buck all.

All in all, that was absolutely dirt awful. Thanks for reading.

Anyone enjoy my ending over the actual one? (Except for the Phoebe bit) :wink3:

I can see your point about some of the lame jokes.

But as in any sitcom, they never worry about the practicalities of what they're writing, they write what they want to write and babies, husbands etc just fir in around....it's always been like that

But with Friends (Especially nowadays when its 100% based on the storyline) it was building up to be this huge, dramatic ending, and it wasnt.

um it's JUST a TV show, no-one really gives a damn about these characters lives because they're not real  well i don't anyway, they ended the show using the safe option to keep the fans happy, nowt wrong with that. and i liked the ending, everything worked out which is so often not the case in reality, Friends has always been about escapism, no-one's lives are as good as theirs were!

Reilly
29-05-2004, 08:25 PM
Friends has always been about escapism?

They've been drinking coffee with the same 5 people for TEN YEARS, they've had the same best friends for a decade, lived in the same apartments and general area, there was no escape.

But I can see your point, it worked out because it wasnt reality, whereas I wanted the last episode of Friends to be the first un-cozey reality bite the show has ever taken. But, it was a fuzzy ending, that was my main complaint, the Monica and Chandler moving just left it unclear, because according to that things didnt work out fully, but they worked out quite well. There was no BANG INSTANT HIT effect, it left the viewer unsure. No conviction.

From the documentary I saw on Friends on VH1, one of the questions was "Where will each Friend end up?" And people all had views on where each character should leave us on the final episode, so we can have the imagination of them living on that way. The ending we were delivered leaves us unsure of how 2/3rds of the characters lives go on.
