| - Coldplay On Cover Of This Month's Billboard Magazine
Coldplay grace the cover of this month's Billboard magazine, as you can see by the image. The following excerpt is from the article that will be released on 17th May 2008 (this Saturday).
05/17/2008 - The album that will put the new EMI under its greatest global scrutiny to date is also 2008's most eagerly awaited release.
EMI Group chairman Guy Hands says, "Right across the world, this is the most anticipated album of the year." Just as "Viva La Vida" is a bold musical statement by a group that Martin says had grown to feel "a little dirty" by the end of its last campaign, the importance of this album to the new EMI is hard to overstate.

| - Dirty Pretty Things Make Remarkable U-Turn After Coldplay Criticism
Ten days after Dirty Pretty Things frontman Carl Barat criticised the decision by Coldplay to release their new single for free online, they've followed suit by making 'Hippy Son', a song from their forthcoming second album, 'Romance At Short Notice', available to download free.
Barat [pictured] was quoted as saying, "You could say they (Coldplay) were jumping on the bandwagon a bit. You can't escape the fact that big name, big money bands who release their stuff for free are harming the scene. The industry is struggling financially and this is like missile after missile. How do new bands compete?"

| - Violet Hill Enters Charts At No.8
Unseasonably hot weather and an insipid release slate in an already weak retail climate spelt disaster last week, with album sales diving 18.6% to 1,631,962.
Of just five new entries to the Top 75 this week, by far the biggest impression is made by Coldplays Violet Hill, which makes a creditable number eight debut on sales of 15,025 downloads, despite the fact it was previously available as a free download, and was also given away as a 7-inch covermount with NME.
Coldplays first single since Talk in 2005, its the introductory single from their eagerly awaited new album Viva La Vida, Or Death And All His Friends. Its the bands 10th hit, of which all but the first (Shiver) reached the Top 10.

| - 13th May: Exclusive Violet Hill Video Removed From TV Listings?
The exclusive screening on Channel 4 of Coldplay's new video for Violet Hill has been removed from television listings, Coldplaying can reveal. It is now thought that the video may for now be part of the secret content slowly being unveiled on the official Coldplay site.
It was previously announced by Radio Times (radiotimes.com) that an exclusive broadcast of Coldplay's new video will be broadcast on UK's Channel 4 on May 13 at 11.05pm, but according to new listings it has been replaced by a Sex and the City: World Premiere Special. Meanwhile, MTV Germany are still claiming that they will broadcast Coldplay's new video on Tuesday (May 13th) at 16:00 hours (German time) in the TRL show live from Berlin.
Coldplay recently arrived in Sicily, Italy to shoot the video for the first single, Violet Hill, taken from Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. It was originally thought that only 'Prospekt' was present in Italy, but Italian media has confirmed that it was the whole band, ready to film a video for the first single of the fourth album. The film set had been a very restricted area, and is located in Enna (the Italian city at the highest altitude), near Nicoletti lake.

| - Coldplay's Label Dismisses 2-1 Offer Claims
Exclusive: Bosses at Coldplays record label Capitol are baffled by frontman Chris Martin's claim the band is running a two-for-one promotion on its new album.
Chris Martin [pictured] told British newspaper the Daily Mirror the band wanted to encourage fans to pay for LP Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends, by offering a deal to those who download it online. He claimed that for every track that a fan downloads, they will get to choose another one free.
Martin told the newspaper, "Buy one get one free, it comes from working in Kwik Save (British budget supermarket), I think. As I said before nobody buys albums any more, certainly no body buys full albums and we've made an album that you have to have from start to finish."
But Capitol executives know nothing of the promotion. A high ranking boss tells WENN, "I checked with their (Coldplay's) management. This appears to be incorrect."
