<title>Coldplay news round-up - Pet Shop Boys  / Bee Gees / Linkin Park / A-Ha</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6810</link>
<description>The Pet Shop Boys are set to release a Christmas EP featuring a Coldplay cover, they have announced. The pop veterans played their version of &quot;Viva La Vida&quot; across this summer's festival circuit. It will feature alongside their take on &quot;My Girl&quot; by Madness, as part of the five-track collection. The tracklisting also features &quot;It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas&quot;, &quot;All Over The World&quot; and &quot;Viva La Vida&quot;/&quot;Domino Dancing&quot;/&quot;My Girl&quot; (Our House Mix). &quot;Christmas&quot; is out on December 14. [thanks mimixxx]

Meanwhile, in the final part of the Mirror's exclusive series with Barry and Robin Gibb to coincide with the release of The Ultimate Bee Gees CD and DVD, Barry has revealed that out of the current crop of musical talent, there are a few bands which excite Barry Gibb more than Coldplay, saying that he'd love to work with Chris Martin. &quot;I love them,&quot; he says. &quot;The kind of songs they write are very much like Bee Gees songs.&quot;

<title>Coldplay's Oracle discusses the Exhibition Room entries</title>

Q. Hi Oracle! I'm curious to know if the daily Exhibition Room entry is selected from the current day's submissions, or from all the submissions sent in so far. Or what. Thanks.
The Oracle replies:
Apparently the Curator will choose from all submissions; given it will only display on weekdays yet you can still submit at weekends, that makes sense. Seems we have a competitive Curator; there's already gloating since over 600 entries in less than 24 hours beats the number of questions I receive.

<title>Chris Martin 'laughed off' Kate Bosworth rumours</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6808</link>
<description>Chris Martin is denying cheating on wife Gwyneth Paltrow after a story surfaced that he was canoodling with actress Kate Bosworth. Star magazine reported that the Coldplay lead singer was spotted making out with Bosworth, but a source close to the couple backs Chris, adding that while the couple has issues, Kate Bosworth is not one of them.

&quot;Chris did not hook up with Kate in public or private,&quot; the insider told Fox411. &quot;Chris has enough to deal with his work, his children and Gwyneth. He is not adding an affair with another A-lister to his list of things to do.&quot;

The source says Paltrow is also brushing off the story as best she can. &quot;Chris pretty much laughed off the accusations and even Gwyneth was fairly unaffected,&quot; says the source. &quot;She trusts Chris would not cheat on her in such a blatant, public manner.&quot;

<title>Interview with Nikki Rosetti, producer of Coldplay's Safety and Blue Room EPs</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6807</link>
<description>Coldplayzone recently published an interview online with Nikki Rosetti, the producer of Coldplay's first releases - Safety EP and The Blue Room EP. Artist, musician and painter, Nikki, told them about her history with the band with delight and a touch of nostalgia: &quot;I told everyone, 'watch out for this band, they're going to be huge&quot;, she said. Here is the interview article below:

You’ve been the producer of the two Coldplay opening musical publications, that is Safety EP and The Blue Room EP. That was the moment of the band birth and baptism. And you were there. How did you meet Chris, Jon, Guy and Will?
We were recommended to the band by friends of theirs. Most of the bands who came to us, did so by word of mouth or from record labels developing bands.

So you set to work at once. Was it hard? Was there enough material to work on or was everything under definition?
The songs were all written, although I recall all the band members trying out keyboard parts or harmonies and so forth. We recorded the basic tracks pretty much live, then overdubs that worked, were added, but very few. Some keyboard parts, vocals and harmonies, maybe some guitar. Getting Jonny's guitar effects set up right took some time...

<title>The Beatles cover Coldplay at a venue near you</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6806</link>
<description>Forget the Rock Band video game, software is being developed that not only recreates Beatles performances, it allows the Fab Four to play other artists' music in their own style... which means you could be hearing a Beatles version of Coldplay songs in the near future!

Fancy some tickets to a live performance by the Beatles – with Jimi Hendrix on guitar? This could become a reality thanks to Zenph Studios, a North Carolina company that is developing software which not only recreates famous musicians' performances, it also learns the &quot;DNA&quot; of their style, letting them perform music that they never played before.

Zenph is best known for their &quot;re-performances&quot; of works by Glenn Gould, Art Tatum and Rachmaninov. On those albums, the company's software memorised the original musicians' performances and then recreated them on computerised pianos, in state-of-the-art recording studios...

Q. Was Chris Martin ever associated with a band called &quot;The Pectorals&quot;? I was watching &quot;Cash Cab&quot; the other day and there was a question involving Chris and a band called that. Thanks!
The Oracle replies:
How funny that Pectoralz came up as a question on Cash Cab! Ha! Pectoralz was an alter ego boy band project that Coldplay used to have some fun with when they first started. It wasn't serious and they didn't perform any gigs under that name nor was it ever a consideration to be Pectoralz over Coldplay!

<title>Coldplay's Oracle on the intricacies of covering Coldplay songs commercially</title>

<description>More questions answered by The Oracle... (over 1000 questions now answered - submit yours now!)

November 3, 2009 - submitted by Ben, United States of America
Q. Hey-lo Oracle person, If I cover a Coldplay song and it is slightly successful, would I have to pay royalties on said song? How would I go about that? Or does Coldplay not even care?
The Oracle replies:
Gosh, I admire your self-belief and confidence and maybe it's a good thing to consider such things but you may be a little ahead of yourself here Ben. Anyone can do a straight cover of another's song; it's when you sample sections of a song it becomes a more complicated legal issue. There are mechanical licenses available for such purposes too but I would strongly suggest you get legal representation (assuming you haven't got a manager/label etc.) if you intend to release a cover. The fact that you did not write the song means that you would not get any money from the publishing income generated. Coldplay are signed to a publishing company who would collect those royalties. There is a long process to go through before then though. For instance you'd have to record it, get some kind of release, receive some kind of promotion/radio play and then sell it and hope people buy it...

<title>Chris Martin and Kate Bosworth 'cheat story' is total fabrication</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6802</link>
<description>Paris Hilton must've had a day off yesterday. The celebrity gossip world instead were running a story on Chris Martin allegedly seen publicly making out with Kate Bosworth at a U2 concert - US mag Star is publishing this story even though there’s no physical proof that this happened.

But Chris Martin’s rep was quick to shoot down the silly rumors, saying, &quot;This story is entirely untrue.&quot; Another source says on the contrary, Chris and Gwyneth are &quot;more than fine. She may have been in the same room with him,&quot; they continue, &quot;but he is not having an affair, was not kissing her or holding her hand.&quot;

Star Magazine ran the story (which is no longer available on their website!), claiming the pair were allegedly spotted kissing in the full glare of the public eye at U2’s Vegas concert two weeks ago. &quot;I couldn't believe my eyes,&quot; an eyewitness told the mag. &quot;There was Chris totally making out with Kate in front of other people. At first I thought it might be Gwyneth, but when she came up for air, it was clear the woman was Kate!&quot;

<title>Weezer Cover Coldplay's &quot;Viva La Vida&quot; in New York City</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6800</link>
<description>Rivers Cuomo made Coldplay's &quot;Viva La Vida&quot; 'significantly nerdier' when Weezer covered it in New York City on Wednesday (Oct. 28) night, that is according to ChartAttack anyway. Here's what they had to say about the Coldplay cover performance:

According to Stereogum, Cuomo, clad in a geeky track suit, performed the Grammy Award-winning tune before the rest of Weezer joined him on stage for the show at the P.C. Richard &amp; Song Theatre. Cuomo clearly isn't that familiar with the song, since he had a music stand with the lyrics to &quot;Viva La Vida&quot; set up in front of him, but he made sure to do a lot of hand-waving a la Chris Martin...

<title>BBC America's online attack on 'uncreative' Coldplay</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6799</link>
<description>Last week, BBC America launched their own music section, Tunes From the Thames, and they've included several top 10 lists featuring the best of British pop music.

First thing they go and do? Launch a scathing attack on BBC's fellow coutrymen, Coldplay, whilst boringly comparing them with UK compatriots Radiohead. Never been done before, we're sure. Anyway, below is the article that will infuriate many Coldplay fans. Way to go, BBC America! You can discuss this at the Coldplay forum now.

The most potentially controversial list is the Top 10 Current British Artists in the U.S. After much hand-wringing, Coldplay and Radiohead were selected as our top two biggest UK artists. In that order. But that begs the question: should the imitator (Coldplay) really triumph over the originator (Radiohead)?

<title>Brian Eno talks to Pitchfork about Coldplay</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6797</link>
<description>Any way you look at it, Brian Eno is one of the preeminent producers and thinkers of our time. Indeed, the once prolific Eno's own output has slowed considerably since the 1970s and 80s, in part due to these extracurriculars and of course thanks to his ongoing work with U2 and Coldplay. He spoke to Pitchfork online, in which he mentions his work with Coldplay on several occasions...

Pitchfork: In some way you bore the brunt of similar suspicion and ire when you agreed to work with Coldplay. It even forced people to miss that you made a good record together.

Brian Eno: Well, again, there are ways of playing it safe, and for me playing it safe would be to-- since I don't really need the money-- to work with only sort of critically respectable, obscure, experimental indie bands. Everyone would say, oh, that's fine. I would be that kind of producer who does that kind of thing. But when I met Coldplay and got to know them, I so much liked those people and I so think that they really want to do something. Again, it's like U2 were. They are hungry to do something else. And they will. I'm sure they'll turn out to be a great band.

<title>Wembley Stadium 'in debt long after Coldplay's next world tour'</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6796</link>
<description>Wembley Stadium has suffered another huge pre-tax loss of £31.1million and is not expected to break even until 2014, which means Coldplay will probably have played there on a second consecutive world tour before Wembley manages to pay off its rebuilding-cost debts.

According to the Daily Mail today, accounts released by the home of England football for the year to December 31, 2008 revealed the massive losses, which followed a £53.3m pre-tax loss in 2007. The 90,000-capacity ground, rebuilt for £800m and reopened in 2007, made a pre-tax operational profit of £5.9m in 2008.

But Wembley had to pay out £26.2m in interest on its £300m outstanding loans. It also wrote off another £10.8m in ‘signing fees’ adding up to a pre-tax loss of £31.1m. Stadium chiefs are optimistic of increased revenue this year, with 2.5million people flocking to the stadium since March for 34 events including football matches and concerts by Coldplay, U2, Take That, Oasis.

<title>Coldplay's Oracle talks about Penny Howle, X&amp;Y photographer</title>

Q. Hey Oracle, I just saw the new pictures from the Great Penny Howle and I knew that she took a bunch of pictures of the boys back in the X&amp;Y days, but was surprised to see pictures of hers from Wembley. So I was wondering, is she or was she sort of like the bands official photographer? Is she good friends with the band. All her stuff is brilliant by the way. She's one of my favorites!
The Oracle replies:
Penny was the much loved and respected official tour photographer during the X&amp;Y tour. They invited her back to take shots at Wembley as they do have a great rapport together. Penny has a knack to get intimate shots without being intrusive. Given the close proximity to the band while she works, it's amazing that you almost don't notice her being there. I agree it was great to see her work again.

<title>Chris Martin sitting on a Christmas No.1 classic?</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6792</link>
<description>The Sun today has published an article about festive songs, revealing that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has a belter of a Christmas song which has been burning a hole in his MacBook for more than 12 months now. More discussion on this is at the Coldplay forum now.

Chris Martin was part of the last non-X Factor Christmas UK number one five years ago with the reworked Band Aid single, Band Aid 20. He's also the kind of bloke, The Sun continue, who is partial to a novelty reindeer jumper... so they're 'writing a letter to Santa' to ask if he can persuade Chris to release it.

Even bookies Paddy Power back Chris Martin. A spokesman said: &quot;This year is probably the weakest list of contenders we've seen for the Xmas No1 in a long time. If anyone could write a classic Xmas song from the current crop, it's surely Chris Martin.&quot;

<title>Hollywood Today: Chris Martin predicts his death</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6791</link>
<description>Posted on the forums a few days ago, here is a strange article from Hollywood Today focussing on alleged quotes by Chris Martin with respect to dying early and his Jim Morrisson comparisons. A morbid article, just in time for Halloween 2009!

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/25/09 — &quot;I think I’ll die at 42&quot;, Chris Martin says about what he calls his number. Chris would sign his name ‘Jim Morrison‘ on his mails to me. Jim Morrison being the epitome of rock god, excess, mystic poetry as well as my favorite male rock star, who passed away at 27. I like him the way my imagination divies, tho he was a drunk, lewd and weird with his woman, I can overlook it as I didn’t have to really know him.

There’s no real comparsion between Chris and Jim beyond they are both very good at what they do. Chris signing his name Jim Morrison, was just one of his charms...

<title>Second night at Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View with Chris Martin (25th October 2009)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6787</link>
<description>In the second of two consecutive appearances at the 2009 Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, Chris Martin once again played alongside violinist Davide Rossi, with a slightly tweaked setlist at the Shoreline Amphitheater last night. This was the last remaining (advertised) Coldplay-related performance until next year's Latin America tour in February/March.

Wearing the same beanie hat and red t-shirt from the night before, Chris's setlist was: Dock of the Bay (shortened with new lyrics), Clocks, Lost?, My Love Will Not Let You Down (Bruce Springsteen cover), Yellow, Maple Leaf Rag (Scott Joplin cover), Viva la Vida and Earth Angel (The Penguins cover). There is lots more discussion on the second Chris Martin performance including fan reviews, photos and some new videos at the Coldplay forum here and here onwards. [thanks Caroline_Was_Here, SueDeNimes, Italian Plastic, Svenky, clisaj, Mimixxx, Jayzo, maria_shiver, ling333, polkahard, dry_pretzels, and all other contributors over the last two nights]

Hey, you guys I just got back and it was amazing! I took a ton of pics and got lost? and viva la vida recorded. I spotted Chris right when I got into my seat because he was watching Gavin Rossdale perform! He kept looking at me because I was wearing a Life in Technicolor Coldplay shirt! Chris was very charming and said he was wearing his beanie because he had a disastrous hair cut and he said balloon boy was under there and they had interviews to do haha. I got it recorded when he talked about how all parents have thought about putting their kids in a balloon. I have a picture of Gwen Stefani, Kingston (her son) and Chris all sitting together watching that is so cute! [thanks Caroline_Was_Here]

<title>Coldplay 'Peer Envy' hits former UCL college student (AKA failed potential syndrome)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6789</link>
<description>An interesting article on the subject of peer envy has been published today in the Daily Mail, from a college cohort of Coldplay's, way back when at University College London:

The Coldplay concert is what pushed me over the edge - standing in the middle of a 70,000-strong crowd who were all singing Yellow while giant sun-coloured balloons bounced on their heads. It was at that point I had something of a life crisis. If there's one thing that annoys me about Coldplay, it's not their dodgy lyrics, their maddening worthiness, or their homemade clothes - it's their success.

Their bona fide hanging out with world leaders and marrying Hollywood starlets success. You see, it could have been me. Well, not the whole musical genius, rock god stuff, but the high-achieving, general greatness. For once upon a time Coldplay and I were at college together. We started our adult lives knowing the same people, hanging out in the same grim Camden pubs and stalking the same library corridors...

Q. Who is J?
The Oracle replies:
There are 2 people whom Chris refers to as J. Jonny Buckland and Jay Z so it will be either of those depending on where you heard him say it...

Q. Hello Oracle, I was wondering did Coldplay ever make a song or sing lyrics along the lines of &quot;There she goes, there she goes again, right back round the bend?&quot; I heard it on a horse racing ad in Australia and it sounded like Coldplay. Thanks
The Oracle replies:
I would imagine the song you're looking for is There She Goes by The La's. The lyric is There she goes, there she goes again, racing through my brain...

<title>Pictures: Chris Martin plays the Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, CA (24th October 2009)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=6786</link>
<description>Chris Martin once again played without Coldplay in the US last night, this time at previously announced 2009 Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, CA. Alongside, was Davide Rossi, the violinist influential during the Viva era. Davide tweeted after the show, saying, &quot;Me and Chris rocked the Bridge School... amazing experience and dulcis in fundo jamming at the end with Neil Young... what a night!&quot;

Sporting a beanie hat and red t-shirt, and back up with violin from Davide Rossi, Chris played Clocks, Lost?, Yellow, My Love Will Not Let You Down (Bruce Springsteen cover), Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, Viva la Vida and Earth Angel (The Penguins cover). There is lots more discussion on this new Chris Martin performance including fan reviews, photos and some new videos at the Coldplay forum here onwards. I was there tonight! Just got back not too long ago, actually. That setlist looks just about right. I was hoping he'd play for longer. He did some instrumental piece before Clocks, but I'm not quite sure what it was. It had tinges of Amazing Grace to it, but it was excellent...
